Solves all the problems ^^
europeans need to pay 14.95 euro not dolars why that?
Actually, I got my recurring sub set up before they started charging in Ç, so I'm only paying $38.85 every 3 months ($12.95 a month). However, if I want to change my card or subscription period, it'll force me into paying in euros.
Given I live in Britain, either one involves a currency conversion. Why shouldn't I be able to choose? Paying in $ has been consistently cheaper (although presently not by much), because not only is the exchange rate better, my credit card takes a smaller commission on the change!
When my current card expires (September this year) I'll be petitioning to stay paying in $ on the new card. |

You might wish to check you are comparing apples with apples there. Both EQ2 and Vanguard use SM2, NOT SM3. I have run both of them on older PCs than this.
Most folks are complaining about the potential move to SM3 in the fall release which the devs wished people to comment on.
And, as been pointed out to those not too ignorant to listen, many people play EVE on a laptop. Upgrading the video card is often not possible. |

Good bye Eve hello LOTRO life time membership, now theres value for money!
CCP: Why don't you ask your economist if its good practice to compete against other MMO's by having uncompetitive prices. When you get the correct answer file this under the question "Why are so many people leaving eve?"
And before anyone says says CCP arent responsible for the current economy, they arent but the Icelandic banking system didnt help now did it - lol
LOL, EVE Online too expensive, now THAT IS FUNNY :p
1st of all, the monthly sub is just the same as any other premium mmorpg. On top of that you only pay 5Ç to buy the game ( 19,95Ç to create an account and pay for your 1st 30 days ) instead of the average 49,95Ç for a box.
Add to that, that you do not have to pay for expansions like Mines of Moria for 39,95Ç and EVE Online is alot cheaper.
And a lifetime subscription just plain sucks, cause it means they got your money 1st, and now they can let you rot, not that they will, but they dont have to work for your money anymore.
Add to that the high system requirements of LOTRO and other games, which means you need alot more expensive hardware then you would need for EVE, even if it goes SM 3.0 ( which they won't if CCP has half a brain left ).
How can you with a straight face come here and tell us that EVE Online is more expensive then other mmorpg's? You have no clue or just trolling.

Edited by: DJTheBaron on 15/01/2009 19:31:51 I wouldnt say eve is over priced, given the time i spend in eve compared to the money i spend on a dvd for 2hrs entertainment.
I would say the pound is taking a nose dive to the dollar and the euro, but thats 1 country in a world of subscribers.
Though I personally have moved from 6 accounts to 5 this week and plan to start spending isk on plex instead of paying cash where possible. But thats just because im trying to save money this year and have a weekends drinking in iceland lined up next month.

1. I have in my system what is considered among the entry level of ShaderModel 3.0 cards, a 6600GT 128mb 2. I run, at 1280x960, TWO premium clients on two separate monitors 3. They run at an acceptable framerate, considering I originally started playing EVE on a GeForce2 MX400 64mb years ago
Bleeding edge?
Honestly, it's like you're a car owner crying because the manufacturer has said they're no longer going to make the parts your car needs to run; but it gets you to work and back just fine! Why should you need to replace your car just because they don't want to waste resources on keeping YOUR car running!?
Originally by: "Joe" CCP have a specific devision purely for art. I doubt they spend all day editing alliance logos and have no time left over for making two models of everything.
I hate to break it to you, but shaders require programming. On top of this, you need individual code for every individual iteration of a shader model (note, model here does NOT imply the actual mesh, or model you see the textures applied to) and graphics subsystems the shader is being used in.
It's not simply a case of making two models of everything; that's simple, they can reduce the poly count of the high detail models and make lower detail versions instead. They can also reduce the resolution of the normal maps in use, or the MIPMAP filtering of said texture, to reduce the strain on the system it's being used on.
You know what's funny? A lot of the models and textures in use in the premium client are actually being used in the classic client right now. The only difference between the premium version and the classic version is that the classic version has no true specularity or normal mapping; I'm not sure they even have BUMP mapping.
Shader model 1.0 is archaic; creating models and textures that run fine on it with the graphics we see in the classic client versions of current ships is taxing on the developers, as they have to make sure that it falls within a minimum performance profile, so as not to upset the few dinosaurs that are unwilling to upgrade.
Shader model 2.0 is also old and support for it is dropping - I don't know how the code looks, but I wouldn't be surprised if learning Shader Model 2.0 and Shader Model 3.0 involve learning almost completely different languages; ie: they may simply not have the human resources to deal with its development anymore.
I think CCP is basically the last company to support a game on the scale of EVE with Shader Model 1.0, let alone 2.0. You should be grateful they didn't simply drop the classic client when they launched Trinity.
Originally by: "Joe" The change should be linkied in the general discussions forum. popping it in the news and giving it a cute offtopic title isnt good enough.
Fact: less people browse the General Discussion forum and take note of the stickies than people who actually view and read news articles posted for the MMO they are playing.

We I.T. nerds are generally far more neutral than people like yourself; your head is just so far up your own butt you don't seem to realise this and take our attitude of "*facepalm* have you read ANYTHING that ANYONE has been saying?" as a slap in the face for your literally not having read anything anyone was saying, except the posts you thought you could target with your own brand of jack-assery.

You can get an entire new system with keyboard, mouse and a 19" widescreen LCD, that could run two premium clients just fine, from about $400 total *not including windows*. |

Maybe that's because you're running THREE accounts!
How much money would it have taken to run 3 WOW accounts for 4 years?
monthly fee *3 (with no ability to use in-game money to pay your subscription fees) PLUS 3 expansions in that timeframe for EACH account.
EVE is not expensive at all, it's one of the cheapest IMO. If you've been playing for 4 years, you should be able to play for free (at least one account should be free). I've only been playing EVE a couple months and I make enough ISK to have my account be essentially free. After 4 years, you still can't spend an extra 300M isk per month on a time card? |

Whoops... sorry 'bout that. Guess I got my dates the wrong way around *facepalm*.
But still, I'm pretty sure there were many, many recommendations for cards for AGP systems prior to your claiming that us I.T. Nerds aren't helpful etc.
Admittedly though, some of us do often get a bit annoyed when people start complaining about trivial matters that they simply have not taken the time to look into. :P |

Also My pc is in the running for worst pos of all time awards and it runs premium smooth as a placid lake..mebe it's time to upgrade from that 486?
