wine version, graphics+driver version, eve client version (classic/premium) ?
eve client config (graphics/audio) ?
when does the freeze happen ? is it regular or triggered by events (i.e warp start or undocking or similar).
start it from terminal and see if wine logs anything when EVE freezes ... then we might help if you deliver reasonable data ... --- SIG --- CSM: your support is needed ! |

Vid card is 2600HD XT Driver FGLRX im guessing latest, only installed yesterday.
Audio HDA Intel Alsa.
Wine version 1.1.0-ubuntu
Latest eve classic version, only installed yesterday.
Since installing, only tried to do a mission, freezed both times during fighting, I'm thinking its just random.

Edited by: Sevarus James on 16/01/2009 17:01:31 Possible reasons: 1. compiz (if its being run) 2. pulseaudio issues (more so with alsa as a wine default) 3. audio issues are a good probability here even without pulse (but with ubuntu, pulse is default). 4. possible audio conflicts in the wine version you're using 5. ATI drivers at fault. solutions:
1. turn off compiz by command line: metacity --replace & (and when done with eve: compiz --replace & to turn it back on.) 2. kill pulseaudio and use alsa. 3. keep pulseaudio but switch wine to OSS and uncheck ALSA. 3b. prefix the eve client command with: "padsp" to inform the pulse daemon that the instance is using OSS audio. 4. Update to the latest version of wine 1.1.2 (at last check.) 5. ATI is KNOWN to have issues with game stability. (can't help as much there as I'm an nvidia guy and won't let ATI anywhere near my gaming systems.)

try disabling audio in eve/wine as a test to see if it solves it
i've had lots of pulseaudio randomness when using multiple apps using multiple sound systems, pulseaudio crashes and takes any audio using apps with it.
cheers,

i remember not being able to get eve to work with the 1.1.0 version of wine in the ubuntu repos (i had to use the winehq.org repos). also, you should try running eve from the terminal and when it freezes do ctrl+f4 and see if that kicks you back to your desktop and the terminal window so you can see what error it gives you. |

Switching over to OSS and using a virtual desktop in WINE appears to have eliminated the random freezing on my Ubuntu set up.

There is your problem. theres a bug tracker on this on the wine bugzilla thing. And update wine to the latest version. |
