Those are called Rookie Ships.
Every other Ship is supposed to have a generalized role that increases by designation of: T1 > Faction > T2 / Pirate >T3 where applies.
The Mining Frigate does not meet that requirement which is why CCP Soundwave said in a recent interview they are scrapping the Mining role for Logistics and moving new ORE Ships to take there place.
I am loving the T1 rebalance more and more.

They should combine defender missles and F.O.F. missles and make a missle that auto targets the closest and smallest targets (AKA drones and missles and friggs) they should still let it go in any launcher and make a launcher that dose not count as a missle launcher but can only use the new missles for your utility hi's.

The Navitas takes very little to build, has a 25% cargo space bonus on top of an already good cargo space for a frig, and remains agile enough to jump around rather quickly. I used them to cart materiel around in NPC 0.0 when I lived there all the time, why waste isk or minerals on a more expensive boat when the mining frigate will do the job faster for like 10% of the resource cost? |

Mining frigs make good cyno ships, and try putting an auto-targeter on your next mission boat (assuming you have the spare high). Your inner lazy bastard will thank me.
Can't believe it hasn't been mentioned yet-- non-ECM ewar drones. I would also say cap batteries, but I've been known to put one on an MWD fit covops frig to help with long warps. |

At Fanfest the devs broached the idea of cap batteries giving a ship a chance to reflect a neut back on the attacker. The idea was not terribly well received, as it would make ships whose primary offensive ability is neuting (e.g. Curse, Pilgrim, Blood Raider ships) be disproportionally hit hard by the effect. I have seen a pastebin that indicates that those effects are in place on one of the test servers (probably Chaos). |

The auto-targeting system is also particularly good on T3 ships, which can only lock 5 targets naturally. An ATS II brings that up to 8.
For example, I occasionally run a quad web loki in incursions, and without the AT system I'd be a lot less effective in some sites. It's also quite handy for running frig heavy sites/missions.
The passive targeter is commonly used by suicide gankers. Unless you're watching for the scanner animation, you'll never know they've looked you over. |

Yet unlike every other ship in the game, you can't find another use for it once you "Grow out of it" Even if it's just to make a T2 ship.

Defender missiles are used by noobs until they discover that they don't help much. An outstanding detail to enrich the experience of the new ...soon to be dead again ....player. If Defender missiles are in the game I would prefer that they be effective. But then again when has CCP asked me for what I prefer. If I designed the defender missile system. It would work like this. Once a def missile mod is activated it would stay active whether it had fired a def missile or not. It would fire a defender if any enemy missile was incoming, and fire a second missile after the last one it fired detonated. This would be the missile equivalent of tracking disruption. This way for every def missile battery that I have I can counter one of your missile batteries. Now that I think of it ...an anti missile turret mod would be really cool. |
