After flying an inty for a while I've found myself faced with some strategies that have made me want to go back to cheap rifters for good. Here they are.
1. Tacklers in a gang.
So I'm busy tackling one person in a gang and then BAM, his friend is on me, with scrams and webs, and I'm dead. How can I deal with this in gang warfare without running away so often that I'm an ineffective tackler?
2. Smartbombs in a gang.
I'm tackling again aaaand battleships in the enemy gang have flown up to me, webbed and are smartbombing me to death. Again I'm faced with either losing my points, or losing my inty.
3. Hugging collidable objects.
I'm busy tackling another guy, and all of a sudden, he gets really close to asteroid belts and stations. My only options now are to either orbit him and bounce around like an idiot, or to switch to manual controls and risk getting in his death zone, or out of disruptor/targeting range. There is often a really small amount of space between the two.

1. Stop sucking 2. People use smartbombs in highsec? If you're flying an interceptor mostly likely you should be at like 20km anyway 3. Not much you can do about this, it's a good tactic for messing up tacklers |

2) dont get in smartbomb range in a frig
3) manually is better if in doubt, the self-piloting functions of the ship get you killed more often than not. also webs are weak enough to burn through them easily in a frigate unless you get scrambled. in my experience people take some time to notice your point dropped, so losing it for 2-3 seconds isnt that much a problem.
If its just efficiency/isk what is your point then ofc t1 frigates, try a vigil or slasher if you want a cheap wannabe inty. |

Edited by: Willem Revolati on 19/01/2009 00:57:09 Yeah I think above all you just need to get your overview sorted, remove fleet members and other unneeded things, that way you can clearly see where the enemy is in terms of range.
If your fulfilling the role of tackler for a larger fleet then getting within web range is not a good idea. Strap some long range weapons to your inty, orbit at 20km or 15km and hold tight, you'll still be a pain to hit, and are in a better position to bail if things get a little hairy.
Manual piloting is also a important thing to learn for an inty, I found this out on my first day, was so happy orbiting that I failed to notice the fact a station was about to come into my flight path, hit the thing, went down to 0 m/s and nearly got eaten alive by Warrior II's (the bane of the interceptor). Keep your screen as clear as possible, and minimize unnessary windows, that way you can easily double click any point in space and manuver yourself accordingly, and sometimes you have to be a little brave and/or stupid to keep on track!

The short answer to all three is you can't. Interceptors are fragile ships, if a ship with the proper counter decides it wants you dead, you either run away or die, end of discussion. Get used to this right now, interceptors are awesome at what they do, but have a very short life expectancy. ==========

yea i have several ranises outfitted in my station. sometimes my gang mates make it on time, other times they dont. today i tackled a rupture...and it was either lose the point, or lose the ranis and buy gang mates 10 extra seconds. i chose the later cuz ranises are replaceable...but if someone wants you dead, you will most likely die. im seriously contemplating switching to an inty that can do its thing at 20km. comin in close nowadays is suicide half the time. |
