All support skills being about equal which cruiser 5 would you go for Caldari 5, or Gallente 5? Thanks

The Answer to this question can be found in how you fly. If your flying style is more amendable to flying Gallente, get Gallente Cruiser 5. If it is more amendable to Caldari get Caldari cruiser 5.

I just wanted to chime in on this and tell you to train Minmatar Cruiser V, so you have all your bases covered in this thread. |

This comes down to a question of if you want to fly the Falcon or the Ishtar. The answer depends very much on you. The wonderful thing about the Ishtar is that its very versatile; its great for solo or small gang pvp as well as very good at PVE against any type of rats and it can easily do any level 4 mission and most plexes. The Falcon is a pure pvp ship, and a support role but a very important one and it will fit into any size gang or fleet.
Of course its also important to know what you are already skilled in - if you have great missile skills maybe the cerb is more attractive to you although I think it is a rather mediocre ship, but so is the rest of the line-up on both sides.

Yeah its a great ship but its still not Tech 2.
Imagine if they did have a Tech 2 Drake, wait they do, and its the nighthawk but doesnt have the drake hull. |

Nah, they need a T2 Drake hull. The Nighthawk, as a command ship, takes many, many moons to train for. They need something in between the Cerb and the Nighthawk. How about a Heavy Assault Command Battlecruiser?

Not really... Takes like 25 days longer than training for a HAC.
Battlecruiser V is one of the best Level 5 skills anyways.
It is used in 16 different ships.

No, he said that Caldari's good ships are mostly all t2, where as gallente have good t1 ships in addition to their t2. He then proceeded to list what he considers the good ships for each race that make use of the racial cruiser skill. In summary, each race has some good ships. .

To return to the OP's question - currently Caldari represents the FOTM, with the Falcon at the forfront by a large margin, and the always-solid Onyx.
That said, planning your training solely around the current FOTM leads to many ragequit threads - see the recent ocean of nano-tears. Go with what race suits your style best. ----------------

Assuming for a moment you are PvPing, go for Gallente. It will enable you to fly (with a little extra training):
Oneiros, Ishtar, Astarte which are all very good ships.
Training Caldari will enable a Falcon, Onyx, but the Hacs / Logistics / Commandships are generally outclassed by their counterparts in other races.

Edited by: Dahin on 23/01/2009 14:32:06 widly depends on what you want to do.
Solo PvP was always minmatar, although I really don't know what happened with the speednerf. I'd refrain from training that now. Small-slace PvP, that's where gallente ships and especilly gallente hacs (namely the ishtar) just own things left and right. Caldari were and still is from what I see the PvE solution. Missiles may have been nicely boosted from the speednerf but you still have your fundamental problems on PvP. That is with the exception of the falcon/rook, those things are THE best wingmate to have. Amarr is a strange race. Pilgrim always was an excellent choice for solo pvp but had abysmal dps meaning you only have a shot at a target alone in a constellation, curse can be your enemies bane in med-scale pvp if you know how to use it right and you're facing something like a gallente gang.

Eventually I will train them all to 5, amarr was first, gallente is now, minmatar is next, dunno when I will get to caldari (well I guess I already have an alt with it so that certainly lessens the rush). but someday

What do you like to do currently? How do you like doing it? Do you mind seeing your ship flaming but alive?
What I am getting at, try the various T1 ships representing the two choices, at your favourite thing. The T2 versions are generally just beefed up T1 versions.
Personally I went Caldari to access the excellent logistics platform and the stand-off damage Cerberus. Haven't bothered with the falcon stuff, I like explosions and the one you get the best look at is your own so being 'in there' is preferable to me. I am considering training for an Ishtar, missiles are effective but boring ..

Despite the fact that most peeps will tell you how crap they are, the Eagle is a brilliant ship, particularly in a support role in small-medium gangs.

A lot depends on what you like to do ingame, but the falcon is a great support ship to have. The onyx is a pretty good hictor, and while the cerb isn't the best pvp hac, in certain situations it does really well. |
