I have a relatively new iMac bought in November. It is 3.06 Ghz, with 4 GB Ram, and has the Geforce 8800 vid card. I am not running any other software other than this program when this problem happens.
It seems every 3ish hours, the screen reverts to desktop, while the sound still plays normally in game. Rebooting the computer fixes this, but it happens again roughly in 3ish hours again... If you try force closing the game and restarting it without the reboot, within seconds of loading it will do the same thing, until such time that you reboot.
Anyone else having this, or know how to make this stop. It is annoying when it happens in a gunfight...

Sounds like the memory leak. Do you tab out to check some websites and then tab back? (you do anything, but tabbing in and out is the key element) Tabbing in and out unleashes the memory leak. |

No I don't tab out every time during my session. I have in the past tho. There is a known memory leak???? :(
Will the Premium graphics enginie fix this issue when it is released, or do they have plans on fixing it? I am really digging this game so far, but the crashing is so annoying that it would really influence my long term decision to stay in this game... It drives me crazy when I am in the middle of a skirmish, and all of a sudden I crash. |

Yup, there is a known memory leak. Also, don't go all hoppyhoppy frenzy, cos after 40-50 jumps the client goes a bit whacky... |

Hey hello Katsuro!
Welcome to our little corner on the EVE forums. Don't worry too much about the dear Dr sheep, he's actually an 'ok' guy, when he's asleep. :P
The thing you can do is monitor the memory usage of EVE with 'Activity monitor'. It can be found under 'utilities' in your 'applications' folder. When EVE gets to or around 3 GB memory use, you better start docking your ship and quit EVE, is my experiance. Maybe you need to relog/ reboot. It depends. I just don't know where it depends on. I myself only have seen it happen 1 time in the past 2 month's or so. Hopefully CCP can fix this.
Also, don't miss our ingame chat channel 'OS X'.

Sorry I did not know that was your signature, I am new to the forums. Yes I did buy the game. What are you talking about? It was $19.99, and I bought it on Monday. Is there a different game or addon I am missing that I should have bought as well?

I did add the OSX chat on Sunday, but nothing much ever goes on in there, heh heh. Yeah the crash happened to me 2x last night. Once while I was just floating outside a station about to dock. The other in the middle of trading some weapons to a friend. It is very annoying, but I can now see when it happens. The graphics hesitate every 10 seconds or so for about 60 seconds before it dies. This happens around the 2-3 hour mark of playing. If I tab out of the program a couple of times, this crash happens more often, with the same effect. I HAVE TO reboot or I cannot get back into the game... Rebooting fixes it temporarily.
I've only been playing this game since Sunday, so I don't have much of a vested interest in it, easy enough to pick up a different game at this point (or when my trial + 1 month is done). I don't think I could play this game for months with this bug... It is extremely annoying. But this game is very cool when it works! I think it is the most interesting MMO I've played so far. And I've played WoW, EQ2, LOTRO, CoH, CoV, Tabula Rasa, Warhammer Online, all to end game with multiple end game toons (with the exception of Warhammer Online only got to low level 30s). Not having to grind mindless mobs for XP to level is so refreshing and relaxing. I love the skill system in this game as well.
I did a check on the known issues, and this issue was not on their list. This is a BIG ISSUE!!! I almost wish I didn't buy the game and was still on trial because of this bug. :( There is no guarantee this will be fixed with the premium version in March...
But I guess, at this early in the game, training skills is more important than going out and making money...

We've identified the cause of the memory leak and this will be fixed once the Premium client goes live on the 10th of March. |

THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS!!!!
Thank you! I was so worried I just jumped into a game that was doomed on the Mac. I will definitely be looking forward to this release!
That memory leak is the only thing for me that makes this game not enjoyable. |

Oohh...so we only need to wait so long. Great. I also hope the X1600 issue will be fixed when it hits 10th...otherwise...no gaming for me anymore... |

the exception is still there, so i guess we'll have to wait more for a fix. 5 times in 2 days now.

Yes, the memory leak is still here with Apocrypha. I don't cmd-tab. I've had it crash several times on me, and it goes like this:
After a couple hours: 1. all areas (stations, warp, missions, etc) drop to at least 10 fps 2. It crashes and one eve program is left running (with sound) 3. The 'raised an exception' window pops up. 4. Other programs crash frequently and unexpectedly until computer restart: Firefox, Mail, Omnifocus to name a few.
I've tried this with the 'resource cache' option on and off. And other various graphics settings. |

Played for over 3 to 4 hours.... ice mining (In a rather crowded area)
The only time I closed out was when the damn ISP DNS Servers obviously crashed.
Other than that... no memory leaks. =============== CEO of Clan Shadow Cadre www.shadowcadre.com ===============

Hi all,
We fixed the two memory leaks that occured when command+tabbing to other applications just before Apocrypha went live. If there's still a memory leak, I imagine that it's occuring somewhere else.
If you continue to encounter one, please continue to post your reproduceability steps and we'll see what we can do about fixing them up for you promptly
