Hey I am a traveler in EvE and a refiner my names Shade
Anyways getting past the easy stuff I have a cool idea for pirates. You know how you usually if you do at all ask for 30 mill or somewhere in that zone for tolls? Well sorry to break it to you but some people cant afford that and some would rather die.
I have always really thought about it and said to my self. Why dont you guys maintain a strong point at a gate but instead of charging 10-40 mill charge like 200-300k regardless of the persons ship size.
Now I already know the questions going through your mind (why?) Why sacrifice a 29 mill profit to let some dumb moron through for just 200k or a bit more? Heres why!
1.Well for one people would pay your toll much much more often. Instead of trying ways out theyd figure its just worth paying it. 2.If you have a reasonable toll people wouldnt mind going through your area again. 3.If you keep to your word and let them pass for the price people will see your system as a pratical gateway into others for a low toll price. 4.If people see your area as a remotely cheap toll to important areas you could become a major toll booth.
Sure it could be hard to set such a system up but with a good warp disrupter and a couple of you expert pvp pirates (not all of you) I think it could really work out.
I say this because I think pirates could make a good hobby out of it instead of just snocking people off. After all even I would pay the toll
So common whaddya say be pirates that desire some Money

Pretty good idea But maybe charge a million per pass and make up in volume what you would lose in logoff attempts Has alot of potential and also would lower the pirates bad name as actual fair businessmen and women
They have us Surrounded again.. the Poor Bastards |

nah dont think it would work since 300k is nothing you'd make more money in an hour mining veldspar in your bs. if someone asked me for a 300k toll id probibly laugh befor opening loose with my ravens siege launchers mind you it could be a good tactic to shock your opponents befor laying them to waste

Edited by: Shade Widow on 29/07/2004 14:25:03 I suppose but even if they did charge a million alot of people that dont feel like fighting a fight they probally couldnt win could pay that much cheaper toll easily and wouldnt mind paying it again. If people saw it as an easy way to go through for a cheap toll its possible they choose to go through again
Personally I wouldnt mind paying a cheap toll for safe passage through a pirate owned system. ---

Rats move around, they avoid staying in one system, at one gate for too long..
its too easy for a group of PVPers to come along and kill them...
Also, by showing themselves at a gate for too long, u dont need to be a rocket scientist to work out ECM tactics against them:)...
i could prob name another 100 reasons why this is a bad idea for rats, but i wont.

We charge 30mil when we have a pod scrambled because most ppl flying through our space have implants and they would much prefer paying 30mil than the 100mil to replace all implants at current market costs. And no matter how many ppl on these forums say "I never pay ransomes" its not true, on a good day we can make 120mil an hour ransoming peoples pods and it doesnt take much to do it, one ceptor and a bs or two does the job just nicely.

200-300k is nothing, do you have any idea how much ammo costs? If a Battleship pirate doesnt wanna pay 30 mill then hell lose 100 mill in the form of his ship. If hes got 100% insurance and no implants then hes lucky.
Originally by: Shade Widow Now I already know the questions going through your mind (why?) Why sacrifice a 29 mill profit to let some dumb moron through for just 200k or a bit more? Heres why!
Heres why: Blowing up some guys battleship and his pod is more fun then making 200k. Hell, sicking Veldspar for 20 mins will give you the same amount of money.
Originally by: Shade Widow 1.Well for one people would pay your toll much much more often. Instead of trying ways out theyd figure its just worth paying it.
Prices go per ship most of the time, a 100mill BS gets to pay 30 mill or die. Basicly 1rd of a ships cost is a good guideline. Hell, it beats buying a new ship
Originally by: Shade Widow 2.If you have a reasonable toll people wouldnt mind going through your area again.
You can only take a few people hostage a day, this crime timer screws up things even further. Asking for 200k really doesnt allow any money to be made.
Originally by: Shade Widow 4.If people see your area as a remotely cheap toll to important areas you could become a major toll booth.
And youd make a grand wooping million a day...
Originally by: Shade Widow Sure it could be hard to set such a system up but with a good warp disrupter and a couple of you expert pvp pirates (not all of you) I think it could really work out.
You cant put up Warp Ruptors in Empire space, also putting them in 0.0 belts is pointless. They need to be placed at gates. A lot of pirates work alone as well.
Originally by: Shade Widow I say this because I think pirates could make a good hobby out of it instead of just snocking people off. After all even I would pay the toll
So common whaddya say be pirates that desire some Money
I believe your your post will show pirates the light, they will stop randomly ganking people and let everyone pass trough their sys for only 200k. Then they to can buy a new battleship after playing for +/- 500 days...
Asking people for high prices and popping the 9 out of 10 that wont pay is more effecient... 10x200.000 = 2.000.000 1x2.5 + 3 corpses = 2.500.000 mill and a smile ---------------------------

I like it but pirates are too greedy for their own good. Did i say pirates? well some deserv the tiltle others dont, just plain terrorist(aka griefers). its good to see ppl that accually think, i like the idea and if i was a pirate i would glady atleast try it out before judging it. But who can blame the pirates not wanting to try it, they dont have the capacity to try new things out.
Keep it up m8, maybe some take it in and try or even adapting it. |

really that goes for anyone camping a gate...if u stay too long, most times someone will want you out and bring a larger force. Not that they are bringing superior tactics mind you..just sheer numbers.
and I'm sure there is a long list of why this is a bad idea also.
As for the original post, I see where you're coming from but with insurance being so ridiculously high..losses are minimal from losing ships which is why most dont pay tolls on ships (they sure do pay on pods tho).
We charge a very reasonable rate and surely get paid more often than those that charge 30M. ------------------------------------------------

as for the implant thing, as soon as you stick the implants in the head they are worth 0 isk. then they turn from being worth anything to just beind a mod on the pod.
and everyone will propably get podded sometime. its nothing more then funny money.

Personally I wouldnt mind paying a cheap toll for safe passage through a pirate owned system.
thats basicly what the EVE Police force i am trying to create will be about you pay and are protected in the area the Police force has interest and are safe to mine there
also some large aliance in 0.0 does offer something similar (though mostly hunting passes) they protect a area from PvP Pirates for a fee (mind you if you try to enter the area without a pass they KOS you)

while 200k is hardly worth the effort and given that it probably takes pirates way too long to cpature someone to extort this kind of silly slot machine money maybe pirates should consider keeping ransom a fair bit below current insurance cost. say 5-10m. that might acctually make the difference for someone whether he could safe 5m instead of yes, getting insruance payout but having to reinsure his new ship at higher cost then ransom (not taking implants into a count here)...
might have to point that out to your victim.. some people are slow out there :)

Well some of you don't understand what he's saying, if say you did have a force strong of to put that kinda toll up "an ammo don't cost anything".
More people would travel = greater income
Yeah gimmie 30mil or you ship, you'll never get the 30mil, an for someone like me you wouldn't get the ship either. But yeah if it was 500k or something an I didn't have to rerig my entire ship just to jump gates, an you were honorable about it, I'd pay it.
You get 30 people to pay 500k each you just made 15mil without to much hassle, you do this on a well traveled route "which there are many" say thereÆs 9000 players online in a day 200 people would probably travel through that gate "some may not pay.... so kill them, You'd still make 100mil, an don't compare that mining crap, otherwise just go do that then.
When people learn about insane tolls no one goes there.
It's like how gas stations work, a competitor will lower his price to generate more volume, which he ends up making more by the end of day.
It's similar, but then eve isn't a gas station :P
