From this we‘ve built eleven teams, Scrum teams to be exact, each of which is self sufficient, has their own game designers, artists, QA people, programmers and producers. These teams are capable of tackling entire features on their own, operating like small commando units behind enemy lines, while working with the bigger group on strategy, dealing with inter-dependencies and developing optimal communication processes.
... i felt a great distrubence in the force... as if a million project managers cried out in pain then fell silent.

Very smooth, indeed.
I'm afraid that since CCP has grown so much and started to use a lot of marketing buzzwords in communication, we can kiss the old-time, right to the bone, direct, informative blogs good-bye. And we can welcome such PR smoothies, full of air and artificial sweeteners, offering no "nutritional value", so to speak.
Indeed, an end of the old world is a-coming...

This patch probably makes or breaks Eve for the next year or two.
I personally think there's been an aweful lot of hype from CCP and absolutely nothing delivered in terms of substance.
By now you'd have expected blogs gathering feedback on things like balancing, testing work to be going on to see it works and more information on what will be in the expansion.
My guess is that the "expansion" will probably ential some cobbled together parts like for "epic mission arcs" = 10 bog standard missions 1 after another with no reward until mission 10 is complete - woo hoo!
6 and a bit weeks to go - I smell fudge. What will actually be in Apocrypha? Perhaps the long-awaited blogs "that will be flooding out THIS WEEK" will tell us?
Oh, wait... |

i have been reading the dev blog and plan to comment on the dev blog on the coming weeks. i am sure it will be a wonderful dev blog once i have read it.
when i do read this dev blog, i will be certain to let every one know that i have read it and how much i truly enjoyed reading it.
one that day, i shall count to three... not one, not two, not four or five, but three... and then i shall read the devblog.
on that day i shall learn that the devblog speaks of future devblogs... supposedly in the future devblogs, there will be information on the new expansion other than its name.
but i shall have to plan to read this devblog which speaks of future devblogs which contain actual information. and on that day, i shall understand sadness and frustration as i realize the devblog i have been planning on reading...

This reminds me of how Hillary Clinton started her presidential campaign. I mean seriously rather than a blog telling us that you'll have other blogs and that's the whole point of the blog, why not something of substance?
He could have at least said what each of the eleven teams had been working on with a brief overview sentence, then allowed them to elaborate... |

QFT. I log in to EVE to fly an imaginary spaceship. I read dev blogs because I want to know the future of this game. Allow me to stress this as strongly as possible: The future of this GAME. To think of Hilmar standing on a stage and telling us he's going to "add value to the product" makes me think that CCP is losing touch with the playerbase and losing their inherent passion for EVE. Some play EVE and read the dev blogs to escape the language they have to endure at the office. Some of the younger players may not even understand PR speak.
I don't like to think of playing EVE as "using a product," I prefer to sit and play a game. And when I'm playing, I don't look at the new graphics and think "this realy adds value!" I think "this looks awesome!"
Furthermore, why have we been given a blog about CCPs internal management processes? When I'm flying through a wormhole or walking through a station, I really won't be thinking about groups of CCP employees standing in a fifteen minute meeting justifying what they have done and what they will do. I'll be grateful that they sat down and made a great game. |

Edited by: Masuke on 23/01/2009 13:26:33 Scrum.... is that short for Scr*tum?
But anyways, I think it is really evil to post a dev blog saying there will come dev blogs... are you just yanking our colletive tails? laughing over how easily we are drawn to your words? Just trying to see how much abstinence you can give us, before we become enraged and try to violate your orefices with the carrots you have hanging over our heads?
What I am really trying to say, is that we deperately want to know more... Do not feed us breadcrumbs, give us at least a slice of you masterpiece...
(And why is Scr*tum cencored? it is such a marvellous word. Is it because we are not allowed to use it as a substitute for scrum?) |

are you kidding? back in the day 4-5 years ago CCP gave us dev blogs all the time on how the team devopled eve, and I hope it stays that way. It shows they want us, the players, to know what they are doing. everything is in the open. we as players get to be in on the know how.

Definitions of "Scrum":
A) "A tightly-packed and disorderly crowd of people jostling or struggling for something" B) "Two sets of eight rugby players, battling against each other for an odd-shaped ball"
Perhaps you should call the "bigger group on strategy, dealing with inter-dependencies and developing optimal communication processes" something similar. Captain Overblow springs to mind.
Why Jeff Sutherland at Eastel Corp oroginally decided to use the word scrum in software development beats me. |
