Why is it so hard to get different missions?
Since starting this game again a few weeks ago I've been doing level 1 missions that have been going around and around - even with different agents! To take the biscuit though this morning I did the same freaking mission TWICE in a row from the SAME agent!!!
I dont think Im dumb, and I didnt think the game was dumb enough to do this which is why I took the mission again, albiet it was in a different location, but sure enough when I arrived in deadspace to get the synthetic oil I thought "oh oh this looks familiar" - yup like 3 minutes ago familiar.
Oh and not only had Kazem Tatha's wreck and all the others vanished, old Kazem himself had risen from the dead to haunt me again. Must be something very special in that oil!
I have 9 agents listed in my log ranging from superb (tut agent) to fair, satisfactory and decent. I have never failed to get the bonus on a mission or let any agent down.
Loyalty points range from 380 with the Theology Council to 715 with the Ministry of Internal Order. Currently the best agent i seem to be able to find is Tava Jopri with Intelligence offering me Quality 0 missions (and she cant be that intelligent as she gave me the two same missions in a row!)
So I cant seem to progress past level 1 missions. I've looked at agents in many different areas on the star map but can find no level 2 agents available to me.
Surely after so many weeks of playing and doing missions I must be past graduating to level 2? - or at the very least CCP can't have only made so few missions that they come round and round. How many times can some idiot lose the Quaffe recipe? I know I alone have rescued it three times now. |

You have to stick with doing missions for the same corp if you want the next level missions, or it will take you what seems forever. Standing dictates your agents available. Faction standing is a very slow grind, corp standing is not. Missions will be the same all the way, but after a while that wont matter. They are all an overwiev full of ships to shoot or a cargo to run. |

The same mission twice in a row shows you how good the random generator in EVE is... it is not uncomon and CCP has never seen this as an issue. Most mission runners don't see this as an issue so CCP doesn't bother with it. It is however quite an iritating thing that CCP could and in my opinion should solve.
This "feature" has been in the game since beta at least and will not likely ever change. The most anoying thing of this is when you are declining a mission because it takes to long, has the wrong enemies (one of the four major armies) or something like that and the very next mission you get from your agent is.... you guessed it the same mission. Even better the next mission is the same again.
Maybe we should get a mission runner on the CSM someday that can actually push CCP to not look at major new features but to try and fix the things that have been broken since day 1. |

I am actually glad missions are repetitive - otherwise I would have never discovered the sweetness of piracy
If you want variation you should really try interacting with humans. Otherwise enjoy the grind and meaningless ISK that you can never spend.

nah, just find another agent from same corp that is close to u (up to few jumps) and do missions for him until u can decline mission without standing hit. |

Those inclined to grind out missions all day honestly don't give a damn what the mission is. Yes, the generic missions in EVE really are that bad, because CCP has no reason whatsoever to put time and money into making them better; the same people will keep coming back and paying to fly the same missions. Some of these people have done nothing but grind missions for ISK and faction ships/loot for years; if that's what they like, fine.

4 of my last 5 missions have been Worlds Collide Angel/Sansha. Not that I'm complaining about that (more like celebrating).
But if they had all been faction navy missions, it would be annoying. See? Sometimes it balances out.
There's usually another Agent of same level with lower ql within a jump or two, so you can usually do that until the timer resets. |

OMG EMORAGEQUIT! YOU HAD TO DO SAME MISSION TWO TIMES A ROW!!!! OMG!
The missions are really boring for L1-L2 anyway, it doesn't matter what they give.
And first thing..
TRAIN SOCIAL IV and CONNECTIONS IV... Otherwise you will spend like a year to get in L4...
Secondly, whatta hell you care bout courier missions? Only thing you have to do is haul stuff from point A to B. It's just better if courier missions keep at the same so you don't have to switch ship. For example agent switching the cargo size all the time. |

Edited by: Eelis Kiy on 25/01/2009 11:44:05 You have to remember that standings are % based. Getting off of lvl 1s is probably the most tedious part. But stick with it.
You can help yourself by...
- Making some friends; join a player corp so you have people to grind with or have a laugh with whilst you grind. Makes it all much less tedious. If you are lucky they might be doing lvl 4s for the corp you are grinding with - so if they let you tag along you can leech some nice standings!
- If you are in a hurry to access higher level agents make sure you stick to grinding for the same npc corp. Look at the info page for the agent corp you are currently working for - go to agents tab, it will show you how many are/are not yet available to you and you can find out how much more standing you need for the next agent one up. Though don't forget to check their location and quality so you can decide if you want to work for them or grind more level 1s till you can access the next one. Don't keep going for random lvl 1 agents in any old corp, it will take forever to get to a lvl 2 agent.
- Train the social and connections skills as suggested above.
It is not unusual to get the same mission in a row. It's not really a big deal to be honest. Once you get onto level 4s having 3 Angel Extraveganza missions in a row is quite nice :P
I am assuming you are new to Eve so don't forget that the jump in difficulty from 1 to 2 is quite a lot. Even more so for 2 to 3. There is no point being able to do level 2s quickly if you do not have the ship skills to do it. So even though it may seem like a grind it is also giving you a nice bit of time to get your cruiser and related skills up to scratch and save some isk for some nice kit
I should add that different divisions (you will see them listed if you look for agents on the corp info -> agents page) have a higher % of kill to courier missions. Look for "Command" and "Security" division agents if you don't like courier missions. There are others but I don't have the list handy at the moment.
