Hey all,
Is there any information available for deciding what region of space to decide to call home? I know there is a question of security level, and access to security levels, but you could go to the fringe of empire space almost anywhere to get that.
If you were setting up a new corp home, what would be deciding factors in what system you chose?
Years ago when I used to play on an older character, I found the "perfect" spot up in Caldari space for what I liked to do at the time, but it was just by chance that I came across it.
Are there any opinions on different areas of space, what is available, places to avoid, etc.? I'm not really sure what I'm looking for, other than an idea of what is out there. |

Parts of Caldari space are horribly overcrowded, leading to negative side effects (lag, ninja salvagers, wardecs, ore thieves, etc). If I was starting over, I'd move to Amarr space, probably the Domain region. Relatively quiet, easy access to lowsec and L4 agents, relatively little lag. |

http://evemaps.dotlan.net/ have a gander at this.
Learn to read it, its a tactical snapshot of the entire EVE Universe.
Find a system with only one way in/out and an NPC station in the middle, make some friends (i.e. with the rest of the people living there) and enjoy the carebear life style.
Someone will come along to try and squeeze isk out of you, up to you if you care for that nonsense. |

Surely where home is depends on what you want to do?
A miner would find a quiet system or group of systems with decent belts for example... whereas mission runner would make home close to his favourite agents. |

I'd choose Stain, as the rats are pretty awesome and there's a good ammount of targets to shoot (both carebears and pvp'ers). It also gives you access to Sansha missions, good exploration, some easy moons.
However, be prepared to be blobbed, but try to reduce the falcon ***gotry to a minimum. |

Your goals of what you want to do and what is fun for you would dicate that answer. Some things to consider are the following, bearing mind that some of these apply to just certain types of activities and player traits, and most only to carebears, although a few to pirates:
* How many jumps are there to the nearest .5 system?
* How many jumps to low sec?
* How many regions are within 3 or less jumps?
* How many jumps to Amarr, to Jita, to Rens, to Dodixie from your system?
* Plotting a route for each of these four hubs to each other, does your home system fall on the "prefer safer route"? If not, how many jumps are you from that route?
* Taking statistics of "number of ships killed in last 24 hours" over a course of a week or so, how does the ship kills stats stack up on systems within 2 jumps of your region? High, low, average?
* Does the system border, or is it within 2 jumps of low sec?
* Does the system border, or is it within 2 jumps of 0.0?
* What about lag in the system you are looking at?
* Looking at the stat "number docked" in the system you are looking at, and for those systems bordering this system, how does that stat compare to the others/average, etc.?
* Is the system more toward the center of empire, or on the fringe near 0.0?
* How many belts are in the system one jump away in all directions?
* How many mining corps make their HQ in the same system or very near you?
* How healthy are the belts at the time of day you play?
* What race are you?
* Do you fly only one race of ships or other races?
* Will well known gate camp systems be in your main routes for supplies, causing you to make extra jumps to avoid?
* Do you plan on joining a corp? (obviously very important in terms of location).
* Do you plan on playing Faction Warfare?
* Have you looked at all your available agents and plotted how far away they are?
* What race do you plan on running missions for?
There are so many other questions to ask, many depending on if you are going to haul, mine, pirate, trade, run a corp, etc. Yes, if you really plan things out, it takes research. Many players "fly by the seat of their pants" and could care less about doing their homework. It is up to you to decide what is fun for you. |

Holy Hell this is an Awesome Site.
Just had a look. If you can't find your perfect home using those maps and there's an agent list as well if you know what area you want to be in, then you never will.
It's an AWESOME site, and it's bookmarked. |
