Seriuosly though, what's up with non-caldari ships being used by the freaking defence force of the Caldari?! More than half of the points used for other races' ships...? I'd be ashamed of myself flying a Gallente ship in a Caldari faction team tbh.
Nice job winning the fight ofc, but seriously....
Interesting assumption that the State team would be flying Caldari ships exclusively. Of course the team captain is not going to be constrained while picking the best ships to fight with.
For that matter, in our daily FW ops we fly whatever best suits our purpose as do our adversaries. |

Bah...I don't give a **** about RP, but...where's your sense of style guys?? It's cool that a FW team is winning at all ofc, but how much cooler would you look if you won with an all Caldari lineup?
It's not just the style, but the challenge of the thing. And don't tell me it couldn't be done. |

Last I checked "sense of style" doesn't win fights. If you want style, go read a fashion magazine.

If the militia had gone out there in a full caldari set upand lost, people would think nothing of it.
However, they went out there and won. This is obviously their primary aim. If they though it was easy enough, maybe next time they will use all caldari ships. |

Well true, skill is what wins fights. But with even more skill, you can do it while looking good, and providing something extra for the audience. Or tell me style had nothing to do with Notoriety or the Star Fraction providing some of the best remembered fights in the history of the tournament? |

I think we flew the flag for the Federation, but we had a plan.. If CALDARI brough Caldari we were going for a totally different setup from the 3 Navy Megas.

I think FW has nothing to shame now. Caldari won a good victory, Gals wiped their enemy completely, Amarrs lost by a single point with victory evading them by about 10 second. Matar were only ones to lose significantly.
Pretty well i'd say since before tournament FW militias were dismissed by many many people.

Edited by: Furious Foot on 25/01/2009 18:23:16 Actually I'm not surprised most of the militia teams did relatively well - with Gallente wiping the floor with their adversaries, Caldari clearly winning, Amarr still having all chances to advance and only Minmatar failing.
People tend to underestimate militias since they're not 'proper' alliances, but they seem to forget that under tournament conditions, the main advantage alliances have over the militias - infrastructure and logistics - don't matter.
Another reason is that ppl still have that impression that FW is for noobs, as it was originally advertised as a possibility to get into PvP by ccp. Whilst this may be true to some extent (especially in the beginning of the war), there are some very good and experienced players including '03 veterans in the militias.
I myself have lived in 0.0 for 2 years before FW was deployed (with my main) and I must say that i have seen more quality small gang warfare on a more regular basis than in any 0.0 alliance I have been in - which is why I prefer to stay in FW.
No capital-blob lagfests, POS-bashings or bubble camps - just small gang warfare on a daily basis - not a bad preparation for the tourney obviously...
Anyhow - congrats Caldari, Gallente and also Amarr, who also put up an extremely close and tense fight - and sorry for the Minmatar. Best of luck to all the militias (also the ones I am hostile to) - hope some of us make it far into the tourney just to clean up with some prejudices :). |

(Militia chat chatter durning the Gallente match)
[16:04:04] Gareth McGillicuddy > we KNOW how to kill freaking Drakes.

As for ship setups, a lot of the early commentary centered around assuming the FW teams primarily flying their own colors (which obviously worked spactacularly for the Gallente team today but it has the predictability drawback). Truth is that day to day each faction militia flies a variety of race's ships among the perenial home favories, especialy when the other race has a specialty they want to use. Gallente militia gangs wont hesitate to bring out Caldari ships for ECM for example.
I'm reall disapointed the Minmatar didn't fly *any* Minmatar ships though, especialy given the sucess in earlier matches of Fleet Stabbers, the popularity and strength of Vagas, Rifters, Jags and Wolfs and I understand some excelent battleships and BCs. Hell, even arty Thrashers, which I've flown a bit on a low skill alt and seen it put out impressive volley dammage. Instead they went the Ishtar Jesus route with Griffin ewar and got it crucified. |

The Gallente had a decent lineup but let's face it, IDLE and Capital.Punishment failed to deliver. IDLE really surprised me there...I thought they would have smashed the Gallente for sure. I'm much more interested in how both teams will fare next round.
Going to be on testing fits out A LOT the next few days... |

Things only get harder from here. And it is very much a ROCK, PAPER, SCISSORS tourney, there is no ONE great setup that will get you through no matter what. However I think with the Navy Megas (as so well put after the fight) we brought a rather LARGE jaggy rock against a wet paper bag. Not knocking IDLE in any way, the just had BAD luck. Blaster Megas on top of you... You could have some nice 100gsm paper but Navy Mega's @ 0.... Your paper is gonna get holes in it. |

Mega props for bringing out that lineup guys. Just so damn enjoyable to watch. Now, all you gotta do is change that Damnation for an Eos and I will wet myself. Come on, that cmd ship link bonus isn't the whole world anyway, not if you use a mindlink... |
