Well there are some big teams in this, and they obviously have big wallets.
I hear KIA Allaince have been SPONSORED!! i mean seriously what? sponsored by E-Bank! (how much KIA?)
These teams that have big wallets have a massive advantage over the smaller ones? Or am I being a bit naive? |

In years past I would agree with you. Not so this time. The module and implant restrictions this time tend to favor tatics and thinking over just pouring isk into officer modules and high end implant sets. |

Well our UNLIMITED ISK and 100 MILLION SP PILOTS didn't stop us from losing to Ushra'Khan
ISK's never been a major factor in any of the tournaments, it helps sure but it's just not that expensive to fit your pilots out with 3% implants and the ships you want for your strat.
It's your setup and your piloting and fcing that matter, not isk or skillpoints. |

Sigh, faction and officer modules have never been allowed, and really pirate implants were never a deciding factor in anything |

Having access to more ISK is obviously an advantage. But I really doubt it is a massive advantage. According to the rules, each team has 100 points to spend on ships. Even if a team has the ISK to bring 40 battleships, it can only use 5 of them. |

The only place I can see where ungodly amounts of ISK would be a major advantage in this tournament is if a team wants to field a fleet of tech 2 battleships. And even that is a minor advantage compared to a good FC or knowing what your enemy is going to field. |

Yesterday, we saw 6 ishtars winning versus 3 paladins...So no, i don't think is ISK an unfair advantage.

not really. as TT said - piloting, tactics, team-composition and organisation are what win these matches.
any alliance that can't afford a few dozen t2 ships has bigger issues than winning the tourney.

Well, let's see how expensive I can make a team...
5x Paladin = about 3.5b 10x SMC rigs = about 400m 1x Cruor, rigged = about 200m (okay, this could be a Silver Magnate, but let's be reasonable) 1x t1 frig, rigged = 120m
Slot 6: 7x Shaqil's Speed Enhancer = 2.1b (wee nano Paladins!) Slot 7: 7x Ogdin's Eye Coordination Enhancer = 1.2b (assuming we're paying retail) Slot 8: 7x random 5% implant @140m = approx. 1b Slot 9: 7x Pashan's Turret Customization Mindlink = 6.3b Slot 10: 5x Pashan's Turret Handling Mindlink = 6.0b, 2x Akemon's Modified 'Noble' ZET5000 = 1.6b
Drones: Named drones not allowed, and we won't bust out the REALLY weird ones (Harvesters or the old NPC heavy drones, for example), so there's not much to spend here. Figure about 50m for drones, as a nice, round number.
Ammo: Again, it can be impossible to get some of the DB/TS crystals, so we'll assume empire faction everything, enough of each to fill all your guns, plus all T2 ones. Something like 300m for ammo, then.
Fitting: Pulling a number out of my ass, let's say this is 200m.
Assuming you brought this setup to both of the qualifier rounds and lost resoundingly, you'd be out 27,740,000,000 ISK. Of that, 16.6b is stuff you get to keep after the fights, and 11.14b is stuff that blows up. It's very difficult to make a setup more expensive than this while staying within the bounds of reason, but freed of that restriction, it can easily be done--for example, some combination of Guardian-Vexors, Silver Magnates, Opux Luxury Yachts, and State Issue, Tribal Issue, Imperial Issue, and Federate Issue battleships could easily top 100b for a single fight.
Bringing things back to reality a bit, Blade.'s setup, including all implants and a couple spare ships in case someone got disconnected at the last minute and we needed another pilot, was a touch over 2b.

have to disagree there, halo implants made quite a difference in making logistics more survivable and those were crucial in a lot of turtle setups
but luckily those days are now behind us and the tournament is far more interesting to watch and unpredictable when it comes to the fights |

I think we should roll back to this sort of tournament. Notwithstanding that it never happened, it really seems to have captured the public's imagination. TT, your thoughts?

Yeah. This format doesn't really leave all that much room for cash to buy you a win. It's almost completely tactics, teamwork, all that good stuff. I like it.

I don't think it matters Pilk, not as if audience cares if you have pirate implants or not, they can't see them exploding and really even if they allowed officer mods, i doubt the commentators would be talking in detail about what you have fitted ;P I would like faction BS to be cheaper in future tho
personally i think every tourney so far has been an improvement on the previous one (dunno about this one yet obviously)
PS; you don't really benefit anywhere near enough from the superexpensive implants to make it smart to fit them, whether isk is an issue for you or not, just doesn't make a difference |

It'd be nice if cost played no factor....
Personally, I'd make it so it's like the test server; 100 isk for everything.
Not sure what the point in using "actual" ships is, just gives the richer man the advantage.

A single mission runner can work hard for a week and fund a reasonable team.
A team working together can get all their ships plus the best implants that are usable. ISK is a slight issue for a lot of us newer folks, but it's the tournament. Put in the effort. |

Well, i have to say, sadly - that anybody who is saying that BIG FAT WALLET is a masssive advantage, or any advantage is completly WRONG. Why? Just watch videos from youtube and compare setup costs, you 'll see its just not an issue. |
