I'm currently training alot in covert ops oriented ships and combat styles. And all this time spent on covert ops caused me to wonder. What are corps really looking for in a combat pilot? I know it varies from corp/alliance to corp/alliance. But in general, whom would you say corps consider more valuable as a whole? Covert ops/Ew/Black Ops/Interceptor oriented pilots, or brute force heavy weapons guys? Battleships/battle cruisers/cruisers, etc, etc.
Just asking so I don't go to far down one road before realizing no one wants another stealth bomber. |

BS, BC, cruiser and inty pilots are a dime a dozen. GOOD cov ops pilots, and logistics pilots are always an asset. |

Long range ECM, Sniper BS or any Logistics for 0.0 stuff is what I think FC's like to see mostly.

Just like always, it's easy to find dps players. Getting team oriented willing to do the support/niche jobs is more difficult but more often than not THEY can make the difference between loss or victory. Learn to properly scout, slingshot, probe, scan etc and be proud of what you bring to a fleet.
Thing is that you need to be lucky enough to find an FC who understands the importance of PROPER covops pilots.

A good pilot has a wide range of ships which can be used. From BS, Logistics, Recons, HACs down to dictors. Things like ceptor and and cov ops are on the way anyway. Do not specialize too much.

EVE is based on specialization. If you are not willing to specialize in atleast one thing, and by that I mean level 5's and implants that boost that role, then you are not worth calling yourself that type of pilot. Everyone can get level 4's across the board and do ok. The guys that set up to that role with max skills and knowledge though will out perform and out class the level 4 people every day of the week. |

I am looking for ppl that know what to say when they talk and know when not to talk at all. Any ship is of value in the hands of a good player. |

As a new player it is better to specialise to some degree. Its the only you can really compete with some of the veteran players. Learn one races core ships and weapon types when you max those out its ok to span out to other races, specialty ships and weapons. A wiseman once told me "specialization is for insects" I added "and new players"

Edited by: Lilith Velkor on 30/01/2009 22:12:52 At some point every corp needs a good base of all-round pilots that can fill many roles, but once they have that recruiting specialist pilots is the better policy.
You always need the force to back them up ready to make theses assets worthwhile though.

Very good advice. You got to be patient if you want to compete with veterans in their BSs, but you can compete in AFs pretty quick for example.

Edited by: Rennion on 30/01/2009 22:24:49 I always think a T2 frig should be the first aim for a newbie. Cov-ops and inty's especially as they are allllllllways usefull. Get up into one of those, start pimping up your support skills ready for the bigger ships (or the one you want to fully spec).
Most importantly get lots and lots of pvp experience in a survivable ship, I went inty when I started as it can solo hunt other frigs and is usefull for gang work, win win and great for learning the game mechs. By the time your support skills are sorted you will have a great grasp of pvp mechanics, hopefully a great corp and you won't need to ask what to train because you will know yourself from experience.
YMMV :) |
