Was working on this for my submission to ENN (Eve News Network) as an author, posted here to hopefully get some feedback. Some of it is fiction as I don't really have the facts from the war (not yet anyway). All comments welcome
The Battle of DG-BYJ
A GBC Dreadnaught entered the system of DG-BYJ, its battle-scarred armor plating still glowing from the flash of the latest Cyno Field to bring in new invaders to the besieged system. Its sheer mass causes a gravity shockwave against our hull that triggers a breach alarm. The capital ship then lumbers into alignment, causing a chilling drop in temperature on-board as it intercepts the rays from the sun.
Such a mammoth beast appearing from oblivion is the subject of nightmares, but we are not its prey.
As the Dreadnaught warps out to meet its comrades in battle near a distant moon, we are finally able to breathe a sigh of relief. For GoonSwarm however, every breath may be its last.
How long for GoonSwarm?
Though bigger fleets (6,361 Goons, 4,984 BoB/AAA) had never before faced each other on a bigger front, the veteran Greater Bob Coalition took on its hugest job as it had all its previous, with obvious savvy and efficiency.
The GBC invasion exploded into GoonSwarm space with crushing blows by capital spearheads aimed at the very heart of Goon sovereign space. The initial success was familiar: minor fleet skirmishes one day, a tower or two destroyed the next, and finally the fall of a system. Initial doubt as to the near unbelievable claims from GBC propaganda mills gave way to shock as map readjustments revealed their sincerity.
Though surpassed in terms of economic damage by the initial forfeiture of Dysprosium moons in the early stages of the war, the loss of DG-BYJ was the greatest blow to morale sustained by GoonSwarm yet. The battle is the latest knot in a string of setbacks for the Goons since the invasion began. As the battle ends and the mopping up operations begin, GoonSwarm commanders now realize that the GBC goliath can not be contained. The only question remaining is how far can the GBC reach before exposing themselves to disaster? |
