Hello fellow members...
I have now been playing for a couple months at around 2,500,000 skill points. Have had a couple missions in 0.4 space (Story line missions) and got podded twice. Each time I was in a nicely loaded Vexor but setup for PVE not PVP so just ended up getting warp jammed not able to hit my taget for the life of me. After sitting there for 5 min's watching in complete disbelief as my ship got blow apart then podded.
After the second time this did happen to be I found my true calling. Pirate hunting! Now I know I am still only learning and only doing lvl 2 missions, but I thought I would ask the pro's on this site what skills and even more so what ship would be a good solo pirate hunter?
Would it be a ship like a enyo or a covert ops ship like a helios.
Thanks for any of your suggestions.

My suggestion would be travel in gangs and find a role in one. Solo hunting pirates just seems to be asking for it.

Yes, solo pirate hunting is really asking for it. I spend most of my time probing out mission runners and pew pewing them, I mostly do this solo, with armor tanked ships and it is rare for a mission runner to break my shields. (Not that I'm trying to brag about how bad ass I am, fighting PvE Drakes in a PvP Armageddon or Typhoon isn't much of a challenge, I don't consider it real PvP, more of a means to make isk funnily.)
If you PvP fit your ships you might have a chance against killing pirates, but you won't fair to hotly in your mission. There aren't many good solo ships out there these days, especially running the risk of fighting a very large gang with falcon support. A covert ops is a ****ty solo ship, it won't be able to kill a T1 frigate, use it for scanning. HACs are expensive and die easily, especially with a low SP character such as yourself.
Like the person who posted above me, I recommend finding some anti-pirate corp and find your role in a gang with them. The downsides are: There is a very fine line between 'anti-pirate' and pirate. Most anti-pirate corps fail. --- This forum is problematic.

Try something with a bit more 'oomph. Oh, and bring friends, coz 'solo' and 'EvE Online' don't really fit together. Plus most pirates tend to hunt in gangs anyway :P

Haha ya anti-pirate can easily just become pirates themselves but like the guy said just find some other people to run with you. Considering you are gallente and want to do PvP it sounds like, i would look into a blasterRax or even an AF. In gangs these give great support and are easy to train up.

Thanks for the great feedback. I run with a couple people like my myself and could very easily recruit them to pirate hunt. Guessing moving into a BC would be the next step for me as it would only take a couple days to train up.
Thanks guys! |

Most of the people who shot at you probably had the same idea, at around the same amount of skillpoints. It doesn't matter how many SP and ISK you have, as a solo operation you're simply going to get spanked over and over again. With your skills, you don't stand a chance.
Getting 20-30 people together, is a different story - but good luck with that. Hunting pirates is incredibly boring, unrewarding, and expensive. |

The main difference between a pirate and an anti-pirate is that the anti-pirates give up most of their targets "the easiest ones at that". You're better off just going pirate and killing everything. _______________

Fit a buffer tank bs with max dps and max insure. Go to high sec and find a high bounty pirate in a sub-bc (anything with a smaller tank then a bc) and sucide gank him. Pays pretty if you find a pirate with a high enough bounty, but do it to much and you'll become the pirate.

I find pirating very fun indeed.
I am that kind of pirate that kills since i can kill. I don't ransom at all. I do not care who you are. I do not care about your corp. I do not care about your alliance. All I care about is if I can kill you or not. Amd I bad? Maby, but it is fun, and sometimes hard to do it right :P. It is however not profitable at all :P.
But for a PvP fit, a buffer tnak and some tackling gear + MWD gets you a long way. Head to battle clininc for lots of PvP setups for all kinds of ships. |

How to annoy pirate camps. Buy insure and stock t1 fit a dominix with large blasters, eccm, heavy drones and as big a buffer as you can fit. Get the other two in sniping bs kitted for maximum dps at about 100km. Preposition your buddies in system and jump your domi in then tackle whatever pirate has the senty aggro. Warp you buddies in at 100km and pop goes the pirate with maybe enough ehp left on your domi to take out one additional pirate. Smack in local then do it again at another camp. Why this doesn't happen all the time really mystifies me with all the *****ing and whining on the forums about it as its cheap as hell to do with little risk to the snipers if they have an exit ss lined up with the entry point from warp.

I didnt bother to read whole thread so i am sry if its mentioned, but....
Try to mission in pvp fited ship. Yeah its not so efficient, but you are readdy when they come and probe you out. Sure if u have rats aggroing you u will die but meh u atleast can try to pwn em.

Actualy you will have a better chance at driving them off if you stick to a pve fit. All a pvp fit does is trade tank or gank or sometimes both for tackling and ew mods so that the majority of the time you will out tank and outgank them in a pve fit. However pirates normally ain't dumb so they won't attack unless your under aggro or they outnumber you. |

To the OP, Hi I like to pirate hunt on my own and do have success. T have just over 15 SP but I still love to use a Rifter, this T1 Frig is awesome, full tackle, AB, Armour tank and 200 light scouts and a small Nos.
Great ship, buy a BPO/C and build a heap fit them cheaply and have fun. So what if some other guy is in a cruiser go for it anyway, I attacked a carrier, I lost, but who cares its great fun.
Killed a guys hauler yesterday containing his POS and his frigate escort! Great fun, I couldn't loot the gear so blew it up in front of them.
You can learn a lot from getting blown up, and normally do better the next time you go out, dont get attached to your ship and just have fun with it. But I think you should stick to T1 frigs they are a blast to use. It also gets you respect from the pirates gangs in your area which is nice
Solo pirate hunting is doable on your own, as long as you can kill drones you can get some good kills under your belt, imagione the possibilities if you were part of a gang!
Anyway goodluck and have fun. -----------------------------------------------

If you want a "rifter" in gallente, just go for the incursus. My fit is something like this with no implants. I know I could make it a bit cheaper, but it's not really expensive now either :)
