Not really a complete idea but the basic idea is to give every player a unique id number rather than relying on a unique name. Then allow ppl to have names that are already taken (yeah this is gonna cause problems).
Thought of this the other day when I created a few alts, was thinking up names and I managed to get the ones that i wanted using some leet speak and whatnot but it's sorta a pain that all the names you want are already taken. With the coming zombie noob apocalypse that eve box is supposed to cause this problem is only gonna get worse.
I don't think it's gonna be that big problem as in where gonna run out of names anytime soon I just was thinking that in eve your char name is something more important than in other games where you'll have a heap of characters usually with different names. Also imho the eve players are probably more willing to accept a id number than groups like hotmail etc.
This will cause problems though as you will end up with a few thousand chribba's (though everyone knows citizen number 83537727 is the real chribba) and I havn't really been able to think of a way to get around this so I figured I'd post it in here and see if anyone else could think of something. |

1. Against. Names should be unique. 2. Seriously? If you need numbers and other kiddiestuff to make up names, you are not being very creative. With no character that I have created so far, I ever had even a single problem with the name. Since I refuse to believe that I am a creative genius of immeasurable proportion, I guess you probably just need to get more creative. Eve does not even have enough players to fill a small country and even in a large country, most of the population has either a name that is unique, or only found once in an average city. Unless you are a Jack Johnson or Bill Miller of course.

Bad idea for several reasons. Just invent a new name, if you can't it's just your fault. |
