Edited by: Calvin Roh on 01/02/2009 03:13:26 I would like to predict that there will be a large absence of "CCP please nerf this, that and the other thing" threads after the box set release...
Now the foundation of any good nerf/whine thread is that some subset of players who prefer flying ship flavors A through E are incensed that ship F can undo all their strategies and therefore demand that ship F be changed to fit in line with their specific style of preferred play. Also to date, CCP has gone to lengths to make sure that any jack-of-all-trades ships can never excel at anything, while one-trick-ponies excel at a specific function but are heavily penalized in most others.
So here comes the Box set out this spring and with it the ability to customize ships, and certainly, pilots will look to make some very specialized ships for a specific role - this will be even more evident in tight gangs who regularly fly together and therefore willing to take a specific role in a objective based team (= gate campers). There will be HIGHLY specialized tacklers, tankers, DPS, logistics and ECM boats, each of which will excel at their role but will suffer heavy penalties in other functions. Once this happens there will be no more need to whine about one ship or another being "unbalanced", because all tech 3 ships will be unbalanced (why go to the expense of building tech 3 unless you intend on tricking-it-out over the standard stable of ships).
In fact, with all the combination of ships that can come out of T3, you will never really know the capabilities of the ship that did you wrong, so you will never be able to say again... "OH! That dastardly ship type F had done me wrong ONCE AGAIN with its capabilities that I did not fit for! I demand satisfaction Sir!!!"
I will even take this one step further to say that T3 has the distinct probability of changing the landscape of eve forever - all the stats-monkeys that immediately know the likely capability of a ship just by its name are gonna get gimped with this release. Now that would be worthy of a nerf/whine thread don't you think!?
Flame on!

If the unsubstantiated figures put forth about the price of T3 are even remotely accurate those ships will see extremely limited circulation for a long, long time.
Besides with every expansion the whines increase. Happens every time. Releasing as much new content as they will with M10 is going to set off an unholy ****storm. |

Personally I hope that T3/customizable ships will become the defacto ship in eve on par with the BS class. Something that takes time to use and use well, but isn't out of reach for almost all characters.
It would be going a bit too far IMHO to get rid of T1 completely in favor of T3 ships , but they should become main stream because it would add awesome flavor and the game more realistic/better. And of course the really good customizable configurations would cost a fortune, but basic ones should be cheap. Signatures are annoying...kinda like me. |

What were we talking about about? I remember something about a duck, a bunch of ferrets, and a whole lot of goat sodomy. |
