It is good that the commentators are so detailed in their description of what is happening on the battlefield, cause if they didn't I'd have problems keeping track of what was going on.
No, I'm not talking about the live audio broadcast. But the YouTube videos.
You start the fight with a closeup of some random ship. And the rest of the fight is a series of closeups of rather beautiful ships shooting at things we can barely make out. How do we position the ships in the spatial maps we build up in our little minds? We're not that good at triangulating based on fast-moving 3-second clips.
So please, at well-placed intervals through-out the fight, give us an overview shot of the field. At least start with one, so that we do not enter the fight bewildered by whom is where in what. Or if there's a particularly exciting fight between a couple of ships, try to give some shots that show us their movements, rather than 'cycling over-the-shoulder views back-and-forth'.

The comentary of the videos is the same as that one that has beens broadcasted via Radio. So, it would be somewhat strange, if they would be talking about: "On the left starts...". We wouldn't see it (only later in the video).

The audio is great, even better than the previous tournaments. What I'm complaining about is the visual part.

Kind of agree, wud it be possible to zoom out camera and switch to tactical overlay for 10-20 seconds while recording those youtube games, so people can see were all the ships are?

I was thinking of the exact same thing. Zoom out every now and then and pull up the tac overlay. Boink! |

I zoom out from time to time but I'll try to remember to do it a bit more regularly. |

The tactical overlay doesn't seem as important to me. But starting the match zoomed out seems essential, and the first volleys going of is always a beautiful sight. |

Yep the footage of the tournament may as well be footage of someone running an agent mission,
We all know what the ships look like, we all know what lasers look like when they are firing.
What we want to see is the tactics used, the positions of ships, how they are flying. |

well.. to be honest, i found everything a little bit of a let down. POS v DOT video footage seem to dwell on the scorpions (ships that at 50km from the arena ecm'ing and clearly not primary) and occational footage of the ishtars (that used drones and wasn't firing at anything or been fired at).
the bulk of the action was in the first 3 mins, with the abaddons... we completly miss the good 30/60s of them switching targets to a phantasm, webbing it down and going to work on it... only to have it get out of web range and increase transversal.... we missed the explosions of both of them, and missed, the explosion of well.. pretty much all of the DOT team.
while i understand you guys are doing a fine job, after 6 tournements, or after 2 days of getting used to the games.... by now you'd hope we didn't dwell on the rather inactive part of the fights.
more explosions please!
on a side note.. i feel i should right a battle report, which i think would be a whole lot more interesting than the commentry. NEUTS?? on phantasms?? |

There is some in-depth discussion of EW modules and how they affect the battle, particularly interesting to the non PvP player who doesn't have much experience with them.
Explanation of good piloting techniques being crucial to a given ship's survival is also well done.
The visuals are somewhat hit and miss, I expect that a bank of monitors with quick switching to the most intriguing scenes would be too much to ask, ala network television production. As the tournament went on, though, I felt the visuals became better.
Look forward to next week, as my dial-up is worthless for viewing (or even listening) to the tournament. Will have to be blind to the results so as to not wreck the anticipation of watching each match at work next Monday.
All in all, the tournament has been great, letting me look at a variety of ships that I now want to buy and fly. Kudos to all involved, and a big thanks to all the combatants.

What would be nice is if CCP developed a replay feature for eve, so that replays of these fights (or others, anywhere) could be taken, and then reconstruc...
Well you all know how replays work in RTS im sure.
So yeah, CCP do it. I want to fly the camera around myself next year |
