Never had the RL money I wanted to spend on ISK, in fact usually all my isk goes towards PLEX in general, and before that it was trading isk for 90day GTC's on the forums. I remember back in the day a 90day cost around 350mil isk, thought it was expensive too, ohh how little I knew. |

Gotta pay for skills and implants somehow, right? I also used one to upgrade my alt's account from a trial cause I'm too cheap to pay the $5 upgrade fee. Sold PLEX, sent money to alt, bought PLEX back.

A lot of people do.
Others spend anywhere from 5 to 20 hours*, depending on their ISK/hour ratio activity, earning the 500M.
Some people prefer earning ISK to pay for PLEX, at a rate of anywhere from 3.5 to 0.875 USD per hour, compared to if they had plunked down the 35USD for a GTC to get 2 PLEX.
It's all about preference. How do you earn your ISK?
* yes, I know some of you can earn more than 100M ISK / hour. Be happy |

This is the main reason mining sucks as a profession. Or any ISK generating profession short of Incursions, for that matter.
Why play the game as intended when you can buy a half billion ISK for $15.00 (or whatever they cost now).
PLEX selling on the open market for ISK is ruining the game, period. Get rid of it or make it tradable for gametime only to the original buyer. Same for GTCs as well.

Once again, if the sub for EVE is a small fortune to you, maybe you need to get some sense of the value of money. If it were 30USD a month, it'd be a bargain. If you can't afford that, maybe you need to be in some sort of job training, education advancement, or learning simple social skills so you can get into the economy. Mr Epeen Mining sucks as a profession because of a combination of tons of bots doing it and drone alloys are both flooding the market with minerals. Those bot bannings and the announcement of drone alloy removal? That's why mineral prices are going up. Also, PLEX don't add ISK to the economy. It's money that already existed changing hands. How do you figure they have anything at all to do with the viability of mining? If they have any effect at all it's to improve mining. Thanks to PLEX I have a huge stack of ships I plan to get blown up in PvP in the near future, creating more mineral demand for miners to provide for. |

I don't really see why this post was needed nor did I say it was a small fortune (hyperbole is fun isn't it?) but I guess I'll respond in kind
I wouldn't expect you to know this but not everyone is born with a silver spoon in their hand. I had, or rather was made to get, my first "job" at 15 doing concrete work for a close friend, off and on maybe working 2 days a week. Got a "real" job working at Best Buy at age 17, which is pretty extraordinary but they had to hire me since they had no minors working for them and they could be sued for discrimination (this fact was made very clear to me at my time of hiring). At age 18 I was told I had 6 months to save up find a roommate and find an apartment. I found both and I was living on a pretty good wage making about 13$ an hour. But keep in mind this was still only part time about 30 hours a week and after taxes I take home about 15k a year
But then comes the hard part, health insurance is about 100 a month, car insurance is only 50 since I'm still on my parents policy to save us all money. Rent is about 500 a month car payment is about 200 a month now thats about 10,200 a year. I don't pay my food bill, thankfully, my parents do pay that. But after all my expenses I take home extra about 100$ a month half of which immediately goes into a savings account for emergencies. Oh and also going to a Junior College is sort of expensive, good thing I get half of that paid for through scholarship and financial aid
But anyway before you make a comment and offhandedly insult someone try to think deeper of their financial situation. No I'm not living on sofa change but 15$ a month can be spent on something more important. Though I still don't know why you felt you needed to post that in a thread thanking people but based on your posting history I guess you're just that kind of person. |

Fixed that for you. I was thinking rather the same thing, though not quite so long winded. Of course, I wasn't the OP either and you are, so it stands to reason that you would find it more offensive than I as it was a direct attack on you.
Serene Repose seems to do this a lot, so I guess you might consider him/her a troll. A rich or well-to-do troll maybe, but still a troll.
Anyway... I've bought PLEX but I'm not sure you were playing when I did as I didn't pay enough attention to your post or you didn't mention it. I think you probably did but I wasn't paying attention.
I don't buy PLEX anymore even if the market does look worthy, but that's because the economy sucks and my job is having a meltdown. Actually have two jobs now, though I work more of one than the other most of the time and still get unscheduled days off.
I will agree with Serene Repose on one point. I could be an absolute arse kissing *******, licking bootheels everywhere and I'd probably be better off, but then I'd have to decend to the levels of my betters and be just as dirty as them.
I could also manipulate and twist my way to the top leaving people jobless after I lied about their personal habits and thoroughly defamed them to their employers so I could move myself up the corporate ladder in their stead, but then what kind of jerk would I be?
Perhaps I could just con some poor investors into giving me their money for some good Power Point presentations and a bottle or two of wine. Then I could run any number of schemes to drain money from it before declaring bankruptcy. I'd describe them in detail but I'm afraid it is in poor taste and somewhat unethical to do so. Quite a few people make their fortunes that way I am told. I could be a corrupt hypocrite too.
These are just options if you aren't born rich of course, along with drug-smuggling, trafficking, and various other forms of crime.
If you are born rich, maybe you'll command the respect in school through financial donations, have your college and university tuitions paid for, live with your parents until you're 20, and otherwise have a free ride of it before you go off and do one of the afforementioned things.
Maybe you were actually lucky and made it through school without being moved around a lot and losing the ability to connect with anyone for long enough to grow comfortable. Maybe you had parents that actually stayed together instead of splitting up when you were 6 months old and sending you off to live with your Moms mother who went through a number of nasty abusive, alcohol infused relationships after she divorced your Moms dad.
Maybe you didn't end up with a jerk of a stepdad who went bankrupt in Real Estate and ended up a stupid lying ******* of an alcoholic who eventually drank himself into oblivion after your Mom divorced him and let you decide whether you wanted to go with him or her at the age of 11 with him crying on your shoulder and her being distant and detached. Maybe he wasn't abusive and didn't kick your arse around the yard or hit you when he was angry.
Oh yes, and of course you didn't have to go to school while your stepdad was making you work every day including weekends and barely ever gave you anytime for yourself. What time you did have wasn't spent picking him up off the kitchenm table at 2 and 4 in the morning after he was banging pots and pans making himself a snack and still drunk from the evening before. And sure, it's unlikely that you had to get up and go to school at 7 in the morning and come home to the same thing all over again in the afternoon after sleeping through half the day.
Nah... and that's why you think people just need to go out and get job training, and an education, or maybe just learn to have a better personality. And it never even occured to you that some people know their jobs and do them well and still get paid poorly because they lack that piece of paper and never had the time or the money to get it and their employer just doesn't feel like giving them anymore.
Of course, that isn't even getting into how the government runs education programs, determines education requirements, and writes off students without ever considering their background or what they may be going through because it is just easier to label them a mischief maker or delinquent or some such. Perhaps even a drug addict or a thief, and iof they do well on tests, of course a cheat.
Perhaps some people never get a half a chance at an education because they are beat before they have even started, but you'd never considered that, a silver spoon up your arse and all. Maybe you're not one of them, but you sure act like it.
/rant if you can call it that. /vent is I suppose moderately appropriate, but don't thin kyou know half my life story because of this; not even a quater, or a tenth of a tenth. Turn WiS into wIN! ..make all the characters Nude. |

Sorry I thought the fact that I was told "its time for you to leave" at age 18 was good enough, apparently it isn't. They pay my food bill, big deal, its not like they're giving me a full ride. I also believe in honesty and deceit by omission is still lying. Though I don't think lying is much worse than disregarding an entire paragraph because of one sentence.
Also last time I looked they didn't just hand out scholarships you actually had to work for those, I could be wrong though. |

Better off than some others maybe, but at least he's doing it and has the sense to manage his finances and consider what his priorities are. I have a cousin that makes 24/hour, lives at home and doesn't have a single expense that I'm aware of. All his money is spent taking his girlfriend out, tuning whatever car he currently has, and buying himself pretty toys.
He got an apprenticeship as a welder in his first job after finishing Highschool at 18 and was ticketed as fast a it can happen. His younger brother isn't much different. Another Cousin just grew up with everything handed to her until she finally used up all her get out of jail free cards and her parents decided to cut her off. Well, her Dad did and her mother agreed then helped her out on the side and sent her to Scotland where she took a course and became a Red Seal Chef.
Same person that left a 20K car on the side fo the road and abandoned it because it wouldn't start one day, and dropped 3 businesses her parents had invest ~50K each in without ever recovering a single asset from them because she was bored
Compared to that, his is a story of virtual poverty. At the very least, it suggests he actually tried and did well in school-granting him his scholarships-then pushed on to university. If I were a parent, I'd try to help my kids in the same way. No way I'd leave them on someones doorstep-my brothers-with a bag holding 2 changes of clothes and a toothbrush at the age of 15 after getting them to work a solid month in the summermoving me elsewhere and without a word of warning and a blunt "I don't need you anymore."
At least he left me at my brothers place such as it was. Really just a spare room attached to a mobile home that belonged to one of his buddies from work and I slept on the couch until I found my own place.
And no, I don't really care about any of this or I'd not be telling you. Turn WiS into wIN! ..make all the characters Nude. |
