Originally by: Joshua Calvert I like it either way.
I'm quite happy to toddle about doing my own thing and I'm equally as content to storm around with 9 or 10 corp. mates looking for trouble.
Who did you sig Josh? I want one similar (but not the same as......)....

soloing from start is hard work indeed. and yes money makes money and thats very clear in eve
however every now and then. i head into a start system find a new player and give them a hand. buying ship, starting skills etc etc. and that just gets them going, if they want to go solo after that then good luck for them.. but i feel better knowing i've helped someone start --------

Edited by: Lustralis on 03/08/2004 16:38:45 I've been solo more or less from when I started this character (err, not that long ago). At the moment I've got 25,000,000 in cash and a nice new cruiser. I spent the first couple of weeks just training up learning skills though, which halts your progress in other areas while its happening. I play Eve as a miner. I'm not constantly fidgiting at my keyboard you see - I can do other things (I love playing Chess online) in the background and don't need to keep my eye on a Corp chat window all the time. Interactions with other players happen often, I'm just not forced to be with a bunch of people (and they aren't forced to be with me!). I'm not generally anti-social, but I do like to do my own thing with my game time. I would rather be in a corp as a solo player, if you see what I mean - ie. I have excellent refining skills, so would do some corp refining but the rest of the time I'd live in my own little world . I have to add to this, that as I had played Eve before (some time ago), I had a basic idea of how to best progress my character. Making my first million was easy because I already new how. Perhaps a "how to quickly make your first million" new player guide would make things a bit simpler?
As for solo in 0.0, you can do it - ninja style etc. I can't think of many areas solo players are locked out of. I imagine Shiva will give us some headaches though - I doubt it will be possible to maintain POS etc. but I don't think it should be really. I hope there are some dungeon scenarios that are suitable for solo (perhaps high skilled solo) because I wouldn't like to be left out of that aspect of the game when it comes.

I solo..
Done it since first week of launch. But going solo is getting more difficult. Sometimes you have to join a corp to earn enough ISK or to find.. er people to give you information and such. It's easier to get through gatecamps and such when you have inside information on their locations.
I love MMO's because I'm competing against real people. Not because I'm forced to be friends with them just to get stuff done. But, that's part of life.
Although it's starting to remind me of "lvl50 looking for party".
----------------sig---------------------------- Dtai'kai'-dte sa-de nau'gkon dtain'aun bpi-de.
if you don't wake up, i'll have to stop kissing you. all that flailing has made you sleepy. you rest while i untie you. stay here until they find you. My hand made mannequin. i won't let them get you. they'll know you're mine by the fingerprints on your throat. isn't she lovely? isn't she wonderful? like the *****s that we are, swatting flies from the wounds we design. |

I'm a solo pilot. Though I have had several invites to a few well known corps within EvE, I have chosen to stay solo for the time being. It's just something I'm finding a great deal of enjoyment in at the moment.
It's not an easy life, and it shouldn't be either...but it most certainly is not coming to an end, as someone else said.
It can be tough, but there are very, very few aspects of EvE closed off to the solo player. You can do whatever you want to in this game, including being successful all on your own.
As a solo player, things can be more challenging for you to obtain than if you were in a corp or large alliance, but definately not impossible. In fact, depending on the type player you are, the extra challenge it takes to be successful as a solo pilot, might be the excitement you are looking for.
Setting a goal for yourself and accomplishing it solo, is in itself a great reward. Try it sometime.

I am a solo player as well. A couple of my adventures can be read about below my signature.
Originally I joined "Freelancing Corp" and left to setup my own as a solo player. There was nothing wrong with the corp, they even saved me when I was targeted by a gate. For me I just wanted the freedom to do exactly what I want. Either prior to joining the corp or in the early days of being there, I was involved in a cargo incident when I thought that it was the way to go. The corp involved was heavily reimbursed by myself.
After a while of being in Freelancing Corp, I decided to setup my corp called "Cargo Redeployment Services". The deal was I would go through system to system looting NPC spawn drop spots and make money from recycling. I did however end up killing that corp as I did not believe that the name would do me any favours and I was more then likely to be shot on sight if people thought I was after ore, rather then goods to recycle or sell.
Hence this corp was born, a totally peaceful single man corp so that I am not destracted by corp chatter and I can enjoy my own adventures. It certinally is not a lonely existance especially when messing around in 0.0 space as I have had some fun with my own man made missions.
Ideally solo play is what you make it. It can be boring as hell, or a good *****. --- ...damn, my sig was nerf'd by CCP. |
