So The Mittani claims to have BoB's director forum logs and plans to publish them in full.
What are YOUR predictions about what we discover?
Intrigue? Hilarity? Thread after thread on which LOST castaway is the dreamiest?
Let's hear it.

That they have not already published it means that some judicious editing is being done so make sure you have a metric ton of salt to go along with anything the goons point out in it. |

To steal an alliance in a game is one thing and ok. To publich a private and not public forum is another (if its game related or not does not mater here). At least in Europe this would be illeagal and i think its not much different in the USA. I would advise him not to do it. |

Even if this was true all they would have to do is spend like $30 to do it anon. Buy a cheap webhost account with some made up name and an eve account with the same. Upload the goods and then release it with the expendable alt. And noone is going to go to the lengths and expense that would be needed in rl to track it all down and bring it to court. Might be a reason for the delay in publishing it but the metric ton of salt will still apply. |

They wouldn't even have to do that. Get on proxy -> Get on another proxy if uberparanoid -> Upload archives to rapid**** or a good file hosting service -> Distribute

You need to remember that people have invested man years into just the BoB alliance. An individual person might have a man-month or so of time.
If real laws are broken I wouldn't be surprised if real legal action is taken. The Internet is serious business is so true and not true in soo many ways.

It will be 100% on the 'victims' initiative to bring any action to a judge so the $$$$$ needed to hire a lawyer that in the end will only get them a slim chance of getting back thier virtual property or maybe some $ on thier sub means its a losing proposition and will never happen.

You can't take legal action to recover virtual property that you never owned in the first place. The EULA is quite clear that it all belonged to CCP, which is why CCP can do things like dismantle all the POSs that were exploiting that moon thing, or even remove items from peoples' hangars that were bought in-game with ISK that was purchased with RL cash.

Amazing that the EULA can extend to out of game websites like the BOB web forums. |

If we're talking about an out-of-game forum here (and I don't know if we are), CCP doesn't have any claim to any part of that. Any more than they would the EVE forums on IGN or GameSpot.
In this case it appears we're talking about a private forum owned and paid for out-of-game (correct me if I'm wrong on that). There could be posts in there where the members exchange phone numbers, home address info, not to mention IP logs--all of which is protected by law. Posting such info anonymously will give whoever originally seized it no legal cover whatsoever as the Goon leadership has already publicly stated they took the information, archived it, and plan to make it public.
Everyone here may be enemies in the game, but we're friends -- or at the least fellow gamers -- outside of the game. If nothing else, Fanfest proves that. Stomping on an in-game enemy and celebrating their demise is one thing. Posting IPs and personal information is absolutely not cool and whoever has custody of that information ought to think long and hard before doing anything rash. It would be unfortunate if in-game rivalries turn into something ugly.

No anonymity mechanism short of printing it hardcopy and leaving it on people's doorsteps will shield them. A third party involved in publishing it will also be liable - at the first hint of trouble, poof it's gone.

The BoB forum issue has nothing to do whatsoever with CCP, EVE, or the EULA. We're talking about unlawful access to a private website. People have been prosecuted for quite a bit less - even when the website operators were idiots and the convicted party simply guessed the password.

This.
It doesn't take days to post text on a forum. Since it's the Goons, I predict massive edits that make the BoBs look like idiotic buffoons.
I don't know if they really are jabbering morons, but Goons and Truth don't mix well. ______________ Some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn. |

Mittani did an interview with eve radio and mention that they would set up a web site in India just incase someone want to get annoying and try any legal actions. The BOB spoken person that was on the show with mittani said that bob didnt care if they want to post them and they woudnt try to do anything anyway.

Then they need to ask someone who has actual legal experience, because whoever is advising them now is, uh, ininformed.
It doesn't matter if I kidnap your daughter and take her to India to kill her.
Doesn't matter to me, but I would tread with extreme caution here. Some BoB spokesman may say it doesn't matter, but start posting IPs in public... |

You are missiong the point. Yes if they publish it in india it is still a crime but how do they prove without a shadow of a doubt the exact person who started the webhost account? Do you really think the people who enforce international law are going to put resourses into some e-peen legal fight between some foreign muppets when they need every intelligent person in the government to keep tabs on Pakistans nuclear capability and god knows what other national and local threats? It isn't necessary to do that. The Goon leadership is on tape (posted on this very forum in an MP3) admitting that they stole the information and intend to post it in public. That was extremely unwise. Now, regardless of where or how it gets published (if it does), that tape provides very strong footing for a legal complaint if it contains personal information.
I absolutely hope nothing like that happens. Goons pulled off a massive strike against BoB and it's understandable they want to celebrate. Cool. But we're not talking about in-game stuff here, we're potentially talking about real life privacy issues and that isn't something to be taken lightly. You don't treat your fellow gamers like that. Ever. Kill them, stomp them, and chop them into pieces in the game... but lift a beer with them out of game.
