Edited by: Gift on 03/08/2004 17:09:04 TRAIN TRAIN TRAIN!! never stop training skills. Train for bigger & better stuff then get bigger & better stuff.
To progress in the game find out what you want to do in the game, find a corp that will help you persue that aspect of the game and is fun to chat with. When you get bored with that try something else. This game has no ultimate goal, it just about doing what you enjoy.

if you still don't know how to train a skill, or for anyone else who wants to know, you have to open your character sheet, then on the skills tab, right-click on the skill that you would like to train and click "train to lvl x" it will then train and however many mins/hours/days it takes later it will be done. To get a new skill you just buy it from the market and right-click and press train on it in the hanger.
(P.S) you can change the skill you are training without losing that skills progress at any time by doing the same thing to another skill. ----------------

Progress in Eve Online is measured in various ways beyond what other games provide. The quick answer is there are no levels, so no comparable progression.
That said, you progress by:
1) raising your skills (and always, always, always, have one training) 2) making ISK - either mining, mission running, trading, manufacturing or pirating or pirate hunting 3) honing your skill with strategy and tactics using the game mechanics to be the best in PvP 4) starting and successfully running (or help run) a corporation and hold gobs of space under your thumb
not to mention many other ideas.
Basically, progressing in Eve is different for everyone - one of the challenges is to find your fun. If you like being led around by the nose to have fun, Eve may not be the game for you. OTOH, many people (maybe you!) enjoy the freedom to control your own destiny.
Cheers and good luck!

ooo he said "level up". Ill let you slide
This game is unique where you do not have a leveling treadmill to contend with. Also, its a unique mmorpg because you really do not need to play 9 hours a day to be a very good character (as most games require you to learn your skills constantly online).
It's all about strategy here. First and foremost get into a corp (like a guild). Many of these corps can help you with the mechanics of the game and with some financial help early in your career.
Secondly, grab your skills. If you have to do mission runs for money first to afford it...I would grab skills. First thing I would learn (one of the firsts anyways) would be your learning skills.
Finally, have a good time. The path of your life in EVE is wide open. You're not restricted to a level or a character class to do anything. _______________________________________________

Edited by: Onikrishma on 04/08/2004 06:25:04 Ah cool thanks
3 more questions...
I wanna be a fighter, but be able to mine and get myself a good cash flow, what would be the best ship for me? (I bought a 'Shuttle' cos i thought that was a better ship than the starter ship - opps shuttles are crap)
what skills should I train?
I wanna be a badass pking 'feared through out the land' kind of character, at what point can I do this?
edit- to kristina: you said I need to join a corp, how do I get a list of corps and how do I know if their good or not? I dont wanna join a corp like like 3 other players in it :(

start with a mining frigate (imicus, bantam, probe, or [i forget the name of the amarr one]). After that, I'd get a thorax (good miner and fighter). Joining a good player corp may help you pay for your cruiser. Auction your items for isk, works sort of like ebay. |

if you want to do real fighting, the best thing to do is to join a pirate corps. Bad thing about that for people who are new: try to get in a pirate corps that doesn't shoot you out of the sky first (they usually hang out in below 0.5 space which is rather unsafe)
I would suggest to first get some cash flow by mining, upgrade your ship to a decent frigate or cruiser and then go looking for a decent pirate corps (look around in below 0.5 space)
I never said I was healthy |
