hi, i realise that there's no such thing as a "starter" capital ship, but my corpmates and i are looking to expand and we're pretty much maxed out when it comes to T1/T2 non-capital ships, so we've been thinking of looking at a corp-capital.
we're split somewhere between industry and PvP/PvE and so we've been looking at either a rorqual or a carrier, and it seems that for 'general use' a carrier would be much more useful to us, and also, we already have an Orca.
there are only 5 of us, and - apart from the cost - what are the drawbacks to a relatively small corp using a carrier? also, i know the info is currently limited, but do you guys think a carrier will be of much use as a mobile-base when wormhole space is available? |

Rorqual has a huge cargohold but less jump range and can only hold industrial ships in its bay.
Carrier can't hold nearly as much cargo, but is great for moving a bunch of HACs and around quickly. |

Carrier is for fleet support. Solo with it and you will die eventually. I would recommend if you want to fool around with a capital ship go see what works best for you on sisi first. |

A carrier might be good as a mobile base and a way to quickly move ships around. I wouldn't be entirely willing to use it in combat though as you will have absolutely no backup for it.
I also don't think that you can move capitals into wormhole space, although I could very well be wrong. Wormhole space on SiSi is broken and Kronos' being remote repped by carriers, and sieged dreads are dying to the NPCs that are spawned by the GMs

Quick question on Carriers please.
Is it possible to place anything other than what can be loaded into a module in the cargohold of the ship(s) being carried in the carrier?
Specifically, it was suggested to me that "fuel" could be placed in carried ship cargoholds. One would think cyno fuel for example, as it goes in a mod. Anything else?
Thanks.

Carriers have an "Effin' HYOOOOOJ" mass, so will probably not be able to go through most wormholes, and may collapse those that do permit travel after just one jump. However, assuming you can consistently find wormholes big enough to accomodate a carrier, then keeping a good variety of ships in your corp carrier could work out well. A BS takes up approximately half of the hangar bay though, so you'd have to use the carrier for fire support most likely, as well as whatever other ships you can bring through the wormhole. Also, apparently 6 Sleepers in Wild Space [beyond wormholes] broke the tank on someone elses' carrier on Sisi easily, so you have to ask yourself if you can take these guys on with 5 guys and a carrier

Then realise as a gang warps up to your immobile falcon and kills it along with your pod that cynos show up in the overview and the map. |

Only if they're looking... Some planning, wise tactics, and a little common sense, this is a very profitable venture for a two-box pilot. I've been doing it for years now in numerous regions. |

frigate is better for cyno tbh. ------------------------ To make a megathron from scratch, you must first invent the eve universe. ------------------------ Life sucks and then you get podded. |

hence why you use back water system which has 0 people in it. Thusly no one to warp to you. ------------------------ To make a megathron from scratch, you must first invent the eve universe. ------------------------ Life sucks and then you get podded. |

Slight addition to this. Nanite Paste is allowed in the cargo. It's the stuff you use to repair heat damaged modules.
