The carrier prereq to not need BS L5? Will it be this patch or a later one with the rest of the dessy and BC changes? Ive been searching for this everywhere but havent found anything on it yet. I know the dessy and BC changes are coming in later patches but not sure about the timeline on the release of this change. Strength isnt measured in numbers but in force of will. I would really love to know that, because i've a character that only needs BS5 for the carrier and training it now would suck, if it changes in a month.... |

I'm fairly certain the upcoming changes make BS V the only pre-requisite for carrier training. You'd still save a month on all the other crap, but i'm nearly 100% certain you'll still need BS V |

Quote:but also reducing Battleship requirement from 5 to 4 for capitals.
And my carrier alt has every fcking support skill to 5 for a carrier and for a dread and i only need BS V for unlock both. So it does concern me, because if I train BS 5 now and they change it, i'm fcked. If they don't change it, i'm also fcked.
So if CCP start to screw with the skillplan for alot of players it would be really cool, if they make things clear with some time in advance because some skills aren't that short and fast to train. |

Quote: Q: DonGÇÖt you believe requiring [Race Industrial / Battleship 4] to train for Freighters / Capital ships make them too easy to aim for?
A: Possibly. Most likely. Again, there is nothing preventing us from increasing other skill requirements on Freighters or Capital Ships to keep the average training time identical if that is an issue. Such a change is quite far ahead in the future anyway, there is plenty of time to discuss and reconsider this.
Quote: Q: Will all of these ship balancing changes be applied in one go for Inferno?
A: No, the nuance is we will begin this general ship balancing plan with Inferno. Not only trying to revamp everything for Inferno would require a massive commitment, but even if it was possible, doing so in one move would be quite risky as ship balancing is a delicate process.
Also: "That means we will proceed slowly, one step at a time, starting with the ship classes that need the most love (most likely tech 1 frigates and destroyers), then moving our way up."
My bet is that even though the BS4 requirement is quick and easy to implement, they won't do it until they try out the new system with frigates and destroyers. More importantly, since this is a big change, there should be at least a month's heads up on whatever they decide to do in order to get player feedback.

Yeah the last news I got was the dessys and BCs are being done first for sure and when asked about the time frame for training those L5s in another thread the CCP response was that theyd give everyone enough time to be ready for that. So... looks then like Ill have to train it anyway which bites but what can you do. Strength isnt measured in numbers but in force of will. Look at it the bright way, if you got BS to 5, you are also set to acces other shipclasses as well should the need arise. |

I was saying exactly the same thing a month ago. Now I can happily fly caps and the patch is nowhere to be seen.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. CCP has always refunded skill-points when they change the skills around.
Besides I don't think they are changing the skills in Inferno anyways. I don't have a quote but I recall reading they need to flush out some of the ship lines (more than one destroyer, Marauder, etc) before changing the skills. |

what exactly is the point of that on a dedicated carrier pilot with no gunnery skills? |

From my understanding it is going to take quite a long time to make these changes. They stated they will be starting at the frig level and working their way up i.e. if it works for frigs it will still be months off before they get to BS and probably longer to caps.

Then changing the skill path to go through destroyer and battlecruiser and changing some of the prereqs for dif ship classes and types. OR....planning to as nothings absolute yet and I mean come on this IS CCP so they do tend to change things a bit before it actually goes through. CCP Ytterbium wrote:Destroyer / battlecruiser skill revamp is not coming for Inferno. We will make sure to let you know in advance if and when this happens for a future release. Please remember, the time line for ship balancing spans over several expansions, as:
- There are too many changes to put that in a single release - not only ships need be looked into, but some modules / weapon systems need rebalancing as well (ex: active versus passive tanking, missiles...)
- Even if we could, this would not be wise to change everything in a single release - we want to approach this through iteration steps. That means rebalancing one ship class at a time, gathering feedback / data, iterating on it while balancing the next class and so on.
The estimated process is to start with Tech 1 ships, frigates first, then move our way up. Since Tech 2 and 3 are variations of Tech 1, they will be tackled later when we are confident we have a good baseline to work with. Hope that helps
