Ok I've been watching and trading strontium clathrates for the past 3 days. There has been a HUGE spike and it doesn't look like manipulation to me....every time I got a hold of some strontium clathrates my sell order gets filled within a half hour. Now if you look at the yearly graph a couple of times strontium clathrates have random huge spikes. What im wondering is if this spike is for real and theres some sort of new information about apocrypha that has caused a huge demand for it.... or if its just another random spike.? |

I do not know but at a WAG (aka wild assed guess) markets tend to get woolly prior to an update such as the one due in a month. Perhaps people are planning to colonize W-Space with POS. That is a gamble of course as logistics looks to be a nightmare but people will of course try.
That and/or the whole dust-up in Delve has seen loads of POS get zapped and new ones need fueling.
Again I really do not know. Just speculating.

I'm going to take a wild guess and say....that either BOB or their enemies are trying to laid claim to Delve

Take a close note of the volume traded with regards to the min and max prices those days. Its partial manipulation and increased demand from the entire BoB freak out. |

i'm gonna risk a guess here and say i's probably 'cause they (=all of 0.0 eve) need formidable sh*tloads of stront for their towers and capitals |

Yes its definitely a mixture of both and there is AMAZINGLY small volume available in the active markets. So much so that I was able to bump it up a bit myself :) Lets have some fun while it lasts. Eventually people will either re-list or, if it really is all being consumed, more miners will shift to ice. |

We need to prevent the farmworkers from drifting in and presenting a security risk.
On the other hand, without the farmworkers, we're not going to have the the products we need to feed ourselves or our economy.

Yes. When you have sov4 you do not need guns and stront, towers are invulnerable. BoB just lost sov4 and now needs to fill their towers.
Doubtless some smart arse noticed this and pumped up the price but empty towers in Delve is the reason. [IMA6E REMOVED] |

Please stop calling it 'stront'. Stront in Dutch means poo poo, and it is really hard for me to try and read this thread whilst everyone is posting **** constantly.

, lol.
I was watching strontium too, predicting that it would spike. Unfortunately I didn't have enough liquid isk to ride the wave at the time. After the spike hit jita tho, I managed to pick up 1.1mil strontium in Rens thofor roughly 400 per....was dissapointed at the low quantity, but then I saw it double in price ovr the next 2 days :).

Edited by: Lone Davinel on 12/02/2009 08:55:35 I made about 150 mil off a few series of buy/sell orders. If I was a bigger trader and had billions of Isk I can see that 150 mil being more like 1.5 billion. (this was made before it ever hit 1200/unit... If i had saved it I would have made even more but I never would have thought it would spike that high... plus I get scared when things get this volatile, I quit while I was ahead which was apparently too early).

Edited by: Tor Anasa on 12/02/2009 11:12:56 Price seems to have gone from around 300 to 900 in a week but peaked at 1200.
Personally posts like these cause people to either buy large amounts to sell when the buy orders are force to go up or force people who actually use the material to panic buy. All in all this causes an artificial spike in demand.
These tend to be followed by a long term lul in the market after because those that panic bought have large stocks to use before they buy again.
The increase in demand caused by buy low/sell high traders soon results in panic selling, where those expecting to make a profit usually find they never sold quick enough and need to cut their losses.
This is why i love playing the market in eve because its actually very realistic.

I disagree, the towers are using up some stront but not as much as you would think. The Stront issue is alliances buying large ammounts and getting ready to "Siege" systems, Dreads and Tri-Carriers being used the way all sides will most likely be using them is going to require Massive amounts of Stront. Then add in the little bit for the towers and speculation and you get what you currently have. -----

No.
It is much more likely that it has something to do with the POS Spam that is going on in Delve and the void the Goons are leaving in the South. This, on top of more dread sieges, leads to a spike in demand. The last few days have seen close to a hundred large towers anchored in these regions per day. |

How I made 600-800m on Strontium Clathrates trading in 2 days.
This is my first ever majorly successful market attempt and I'm excited. Couldn't have come at a better time since I just bought my first freighter and was feeling a bit pinched on liquid resources compared to the norm.
1.) Read about rise in market forums and thought bummer I missed a chance :( 2.) In game I happened to notice that Jita had VERY abnormally low inventory. Maybe 100k units at 600/unit. 3.) Bought all of jita inventory and re-listed at 1400/unit. Whether it sold or not didn't really matter, (though it did, quickly) the point was to create the impression of rapidly increased value by a spike in the average, market trends still show clearly the effect. even if I had to buy it with an alt and hold onto it. 4.)Went to all the other major market hubs I knew of, dodixie, oursulaert, hek and spent all the isk I had (750m or so) buying out all the inventory there at 200-400/unit. Sadly I had no more funds available so missed out on some opportunities. 5.)Re-listed locally at all markets at 750/unit and waited. 6.)As I hoped would happen, about 12 hours later traders noticed the massive price difference between Jita and surroundings hubs and bought out all my inventory in local and shipped it to Jita. 7.)Mass supply quickly crashed the market and as of this moment its trading around 738/unit with maybe 7m units available.
Granted a lot of this has to do with increased demand/constant supply and the market may not drop much further if the demand remains. I find that unlikely though considering the amount of unusual activity in delve and market manipulation that has been hinted at by others which seems a temporary situation. Therefore, I predict a fall back to 400-450/unit. If that doesn't occur, then hindsight might just show I bought what stock was left cheaper than the new valuation, but I still think I played my hand well :-P
