Would it be feasible to let users disable more graphics settings?
Nebulae, some textures, some lights, explosions all add some level of lag. While it's understandable that CCP would like their customers to experience the full level of graphic immersion, lag is itself an immersion breaker.
It shouldn't, in principle be a difficult feature set to implement, unless there is something non obvious at work. If so, please educate me on why.

For one, your calling it lag when its slow performance. Everything you just listed is a performance issue of your machine, nothing to do with lag.
Solution to this is like every other game, lower game resolution. Your PC obviously cant handle the resolution your running at when you get into fights.

Well, lag is server side and client side.
Only asking for the option to disable some feature which would optimize Eve on lower hardware specs (also applies to laptops).
If that would be difficult to implement, please tell me why.

Isn't this what Premium Lite will be for?

Layman's speak:
"The Premium client will be faster than the Classic client in most cases, because the Classic client renders everything in software, whereas the Premium client uses the hardware functionality of your graphics card."
If you can't run Premium Lite, then you have other issues and it isn't that you need the Classic client.

And that is an example of why one does not let laymen explain stuff. ;(

i like the idea of more options to disable visuals is nice but i think they shold be more detailed
i really dont like disableing missile explosions and losing the sight of missiles as well.
can i choos between the to plz
same with guns can i choose to turn off turret and only miss the flachand the gun movement but still watch the round fly at target?
sometimes under pressure you cant see your priority target and with effects turn off you cant see where the damage is going.
i would love to reduce some but not all wepon effects so i can pick and choose how much im willing to sacrifice game play for as much effects i think best soots my enjoyment and computer capabilities

we got used to a lot of settings for fps and 3d rts games, where everything you see is some kind of model. this is very different in eve, where there's not so much to see (dont get me wrong).
i assume the devs are no idiots, and if we can't go into details with the settings, it probably means the impact is minimal. (except in large fleet battles, where you zoom out all the way, disable all effects and hope the node doesnt crash )
the new effects in apoc might change that, we'll see

I recently installed the premium graphics to make sure my computer would run them smoothly.
While in space things were as expected and there was no difference between premium and classic.
But in the stations everything was very slow for the premium graphics. The fitting screen instantly loaded on classic, but on premium took about 30 seconds. Market would take slightly longer for every item to load. Asset management was slower since items reacted to what I was doing to them only after a couple of seconds.
It wasn't game breaking slowness, It just makes the game feel really slow. I am usually rushing to fit one of the few ships I have for PvP, so station lag is unacceptably frustrating. It didn't make any sense to me either because I felt that I should of been able to cache the loading done in stations to make it run smoother.
I will probably use premium lite. I occasionally like to turn on higher graphics settings to see shiny stuff, but in the end I always choose performance over graphics. So I agree with the OP.

Is it possible to download the Premium Lite account now? Or will it be released when the classic is removed?
