Too many 'free' 800k SP alts. Sure, if CCP's caltulations are right you'll have roughly the same amount of SPs as the current method at about the 1.6mil mark, but that assumes that you're actually taking time to train the character. I personally have two 'new character' alts on active accounts that I use for specific, yet limited, purposes and under the new system that will no longer work because you would need to take time away from training your 'main' character. No more 'free' research alts, market alts, mining alts, or cheap-friggy PvP alts. -------------------- "I am hard pressed on my right; my centre is giving way; situation excellent; I am attacking." - Ferdinand Foch at the Battle of the Marne |

Heh it is rather nice being able to make instant trade alts and instant corp holders, allmost instant hauler alt etc..
Not sure it is the driving factor though, I think the general ****tyness of the new player experience is what has driven a lot of the changes and there is a lot of stuff in upcoming patches aimed at converting more trials.

yeah but i think i only needed about half of those 800k on my science alt. a bunch of those skills are extra stuff the alt might not really need. and now with skill queue and rapid start training, at least it will be pretty easy to get those 400k SP needed to pilot a hauler or whatever.
it will certainly be easier than before when new characters started with between 25k and 100k SP and no such luxuries as skill queues or rapid start training. ~~~~ ~~~~ ~~~~ Take away the risk and it would make flying around in space utterly pointless.
Take away the flying around part and you make EVE into a space themed spreadsheet application. |

You may have a very good point there. In the current system, there's an endless supply of disposable alts that can be (ab)used for all kinds of things that come with a nice little specialized skill package depending on what career path one choses. I honestly hadn't thought of that, I just figured it had mostly to do with CCP being unhappy about the current 'new player experience'.

Nah, it'll still be pretty quick to train those "shorty" careers like trader, etc., up to where they used to spawn from at the 800,000 skill points. A couple weeks more off your main account's training so you can whip up an alt is nothing in the scheme of things in Eve Online. And no newbie ever spawned with nearly all the skills for a career, so to get heavily into any one skill line you still had a lot of extra training to do after spawning. I doubt it will matter much in the long run.
And you know what? I would trade it all for the upcoming respec option anyway. I finally moved my Intaki hulk miner off this account and onto her own account again after two years, because I played with that respec option on Sisi. Now March 10th can't come fast enough.

Good point, it will no longer be possible to roll those 12 hour fire and forget griefer alts. Only concern I have is the rather substantial isk value of the skillbooks gained from the current system...will tutorial-mission payouts be boosted to reflect new players needing to buy a lot more skills early on? _________________ [IMAGE REMOVED] -- aka Cpt Bogus -- Is that my torped sig cloaking your base?
