Simple question:
If I join FW, and stick to high-sec space controlled by the friendly factions of that FW, will the faction navies be around to protect me? I'm interested in trying FW, but I'm a very new character, and find that mining is a pretty good way to earn money. I'm worried about joining FW meaning I won't be able to mine, because random people can come by and toast me while I'm in a mining ship by a belt somewhere.
Any clarification or suggestions are welcome. Thanks. :) |

The local Navy will assist, but there is no assurance that their assistance will be sufficient.
I would suggest ratting or mission running over mining. Atleast that way you are atleast partial prepared for combat. With the help of the Navy you might be able to add your opponent's loot to your salvage.

A little clariofication here:
The militias in Factional Warfare are treated as corporations that are at permanent war with each other; what that means to you is this:
1)When in friendly Empire, you have all the protections that anyone else has that's NOT a member of FW.
1) YOu cannot be attacked in Empire without the attacker getting CONCORDED, unless it's a member of a enemy FW militia that attacked you. In that cae, it's treated as any other wardec and COCORD stays out. YOu *MAY* be assisted by the faction navy, providing they're close enough - however, as faction navies are made to be tankable, their assistance is of dubius utility.
3) If you're in a mining frigate, cruiser, or barge - you are in a ship that's not designed to tank, and will probably get popped if a enemy FW participant comes along. Remember, by joining FW it amounts to a permanent killright to the enemy militia. And if he's in your space at all, he's able to tank the Navy.
Fly safe, fly paranoid - ESPECIALLY in you're in the sanctioned PvP known as Faction Warfare.

Edited by: Onyx Celestia on 12/02/2009 22:45:06 Edited by: Onyx Celestia on 12/02/2009 22:43:12 I wouldn't mine if you're going to join FW as you will be a helpless war target. Any fleets or gangs from the opposing war faction coming through will probably be able to pop you before NPCs can get there.
You know, you could always just roll a Minmatar Special Forces alt (they spawn with high navigation skills and you can add a MWD really quickly). You can build up .5 faction in a day mainly from just doing all the newbie quest chains (10 part chain, 5 part chain, 2 part fetch quests and some fetching for entry-level COSMOS agents). You can also buy copper tags off the market for other newbie COSMOS agents to speed things along further. (Join the COSMOS chat channel for links and specifics.)
Or if you're going to buy the boxed version of Apocrypha when it launches, you could just wait until March 10th and roll your FW char from that boxed account. Your char will spawn with .5 faction. You'd have to pay for a second account, but you could continue to level both characters at once. It's always nice to have a miner/missioner for continual income who's not constantly tangled up in wars if you're going to try PvP with another character.

I'm pretty sure that you have the protection of your own and your ally's navies, but not of other "friendly" factions.
So if you are in Amarr or Caldari factional war, you have navy protection in Amarr or Caldari space but not in Khanid and Ammatar space.

It's not a matter of wanting to hang out in high-sec with drones out, pretending I'm fighting. :P
I'm just a new character with some skills in mining, so I've found it's a good and reliable way to make ISK while I'm training up some skills and trying to buy some ships and equipment. :) |

Mining is a pretty good way to pass the time. Even with just the bare skills its at least a reliable source of money. Unless the Veldnought has been around but that isn't a problem if you stay out of Amarr...
