Shader Model 3; What is needed in order to enable this? I thought i had the correct req's but when i enable it the screen goes all flickery and and crazy. I'm quite upset as it looks like things look worse that current tq when i only have shader 2. |

The videocard hardware requirements from shader 2 to shader 3 are fairly significant. which model of video card do you own? pc specs?

I have an XPS M1710 laptop have a GeForce Go 7900 GS ( which from all i could find should be compatible), and have DirectX 9.0c (which from what i have read is supposed to be compatible).
if you need more info please specify what you need to know. |

If it's a GeForce 6000 series or higher, it has Shader 3.0 or better. ---

Edited by: Xavier Zedicus on 14/02/2009 15:59:12 Yes i know it should, but with SM_3_lo or _Hi the screen flakes out.
I get gray, and then random flickering of UI and ships and effects, leading to a freeze of the client or a total system crash.
I don't know how else to explain what is happening.
This also happens when i log in on in space with SM_2 but not when i log on in a station with SM 2 and undock.
Could the problem lye in the cards memory? as it is only a mobile card? |

Edited by: xarjin on 14/02/2009 16:05:16 Edited by: xarjin on 14/02/2009 16:02:51 After reviewing wikipedia's article on geforce videocards I'm uncertain if your laptop model video card supports shader 3. The article claims that most 7000 series nvidia's offer "UltraShadow II Technology" which could or could not be at all related to the shader model supported in hardware. If this is the case you could be lead to believe your videocard only supports shader model 2. You will generally have the most recent version of direct x software but if your hardware cannot use the features provided it's time to consider options. This may not be your situation as i'm somewhat uncertain if your videocard supports shader 3 however here's some of the wikipedia links I found for reference. It's also important to mention that no software or driver upgrade will add new features to hardware that it was not already capable of.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Nvidia_graphics_processing_units
read a little closer around the geforce 6 hyperlink and discovered
"GeForce 6 Launched in April 2004, the GeForce 6 (NV40) added Shader Model 3.0 support to the GeForce family, while correcting the weak floating point shader performance of its predecessor. It also implemented high dynamic range imaging and introduced SLI (Scalable Link Interface) and PureVideo capability."
The issue here may just be that your using a notebook. Most notebook graphics cards use shared system memory which is a lot slower than the gddr3 video memory required for fast rendering.

extreme hd software is only for high definition gpu rendered video streams and is entirely different than anything you'll use for gaming.

i may have been thinking of NVIDIA« PureVideo HD which is ironically similar. However the issue still stands unresolved possibly for two reasons... sisi is running beta software, and notebooks are not typically gaming systems. Your notebook does seem to support shader 3 but support it or not it may not work well, may work once the eve software is more stable or it may not work at all.

XPS 1710 is powerful enough to run EVE on premium. I own the same notebook and it works fine for me since the premium client was introduced

You got SM 3 working on sisi?
maybe its memory related or there's something wrong with my install then. |

My guess is it's your drivers, have you tried updating those yet? _

Yes, driver update is always recommended when you get graphics errors in a new game. -
