It slows down the client noticeably, I can't use it when I'm not logged in, the quality is "meh" sometimes. Long story short, I never use it nowadays.

Took me months to get it working because the voice chat is somehow the only program that needs on my router port redirection, and I knew nothing about it. When I managed my corp had shifted to other software...

Edited by: Ehronn on 18/04/2009 17:53:13 I still use teamspeak or vent as Eve Voice doesn't work for me.
I can join and hear people talk, but Eve Voice doesn't recognize any keys I set for push to talk. I don't know if that's cause I use an older ps2 keyboard or what.
But none of the push to talk keys work.
So I never use Eve Voice.

xfire use to stop all but the middle mouse button from working. If you use xfire Try shutting down xfire and restarting your eve client. Was able to use other buttons for eve voice after that...(not a solution just a work around I know).

The only problem with Eve voice is the same problem there's always been with Eve voice compared to Teamspeak or Ventrilo.
-If you disconnect, Eve voice disconnects, you don't know what the hell is happening if you were all using eve voice, it's not that uncommon for Eve to crash randomly these days.
-If you're using logoffski ambush style tactics like some people, vent/team speak is an advantage again.
-If you lag ingame, say someone goes to jita thats on eve voice with you, eve voice screws up aswell.
-It's nice sometimes to have eve closed while browsing the internet or something but still being able to talk with corpmates on vent/teamspeak.
Maybe if you wanted you could make Eve voice kinda like some seperate application that you need your API and password to login to or something?
if you disagree with me then you should probably post a response and stop reading my signature. |

My only comments are:
-Auto-adjusting incoming voice to the same level. Some people come accross blaring loud, and others like whispers. -Additional assignable PTT keys. Add Mouse4 and Mouse5, as Push-To-Talk options.

In our corp and previous alliance we used it alot.
Especially when you're flying with a bunch of different corps/allaicne together and htey all use a different voice ap (vent ts whatever) voice is a nice common ground.
Too bad sound sometimes breaks off when peeps are in a laggy system.

I use EVE Voice regularly in my ex-corps public channel and mostly it works fine for me, no lag, good quality and makes for good fun when listening to drunk corpies who can't figure out how to use TS/Vent.
But in general a few of my mates have issues consistently with EVE and thus EVE-Voice, so there are definately some issues, but none I have ever run across

Originally by: Sky Marshal Mumble/TeamSpeak are better for all PVP operations, as they are more stable and more important, are external clients. If for any reason you are disconnected, this externality is CRITICAL, to know if you can relogin or stuff, but Eve Voice don't have this capacity.
This is the reason why EVE Voice is failing to achieve popularity, in my view. Other than that, I've had no real problems with it compared to any other equivalent issues in Ventrilo or TeamSpeak. Interesting that some like Akita mention the client slowing down on using it; I've never experienced that. It'd be interesting to find out what the bottleneck is.
I like DigitalCommunist's idea of the ship in space that is talking showing up, that's very neat. ___ My views may not represent those of my corporation, which is why I never get invited to those diplomatic parties... Environmental Effects

Everything about it is fine, except??? then everything about it is not fine!
Its all been said b4 the best idea is being able to see above the ship who is talking - that would be great - not sure about fleet battles - so would be good to be able to turn it off aswell.
Used it for a while seems unfinished.

Oh, and I ALMOST NEVER have "socket closed" problems when I have EVE-Voice turned off. Whenever I turn EVE-Voice on, it's almost certain I'll experience a flood of those... even if it's just because of sucky onboard network card or my network card driver (it simply "resets", everything loses connection, not just EVE).

For the first year or two since its introduction it did not work at all for me. Then recently my corp mate discovered I had to uncheck one box in my d-link routers config panel and it suddenly worked. Then I tried it out with my corp for about 5 minutes, got bored, and went back to using ventrilo.
That is my experience with it. --------------

EVE Voice has been used to facilitate the daily life of our pilots since its advent, enhancing the coordination of pilots during intense gameplay such as battles, improving inter-player negotiations, enriching planning and bringing a new facet to overall social interaction.
As a part of the process to improve the experience of using EVE Voice, we would like to hear your true stories of how it has affected your game play. Good stories, interesting tidbits, or general feedback and suggestions are welcome in this thread.
EVE is in many ways a fantastic game! However, I would like to see what you can do in EVE on the "basic plan" broadens more. The basic ships broadens more etc. We have got lots of new ships in the last years, but most of them in the price range of hundred + million isk. I would very much like to see some good cheaper ships hit the market!
Also as a veteran, I am getting a little worried about cloning costs... 11 million isk per clone if I remember correct.. its well and good with increased cloning costs, but when the skills are of diminishing situation, why cant the clone cost be the same? Why not set a roof on clones, just as with the skills? In a few years the cloning cost will be so hight I wont dare leave the station,, Just a warning for the future..
What I am really looking forward in EVE is the ambulation project. Captains quarters, not to mention the social aspect it will bring. But even more I am looking forward what ambulation might be the foundation for: planterary interaction, terraforming, colonization and ultimately war on the ground! But please! Keep that war in line with the kind we have in space! I would not like to see WASD kind of 1st person shooter!
All in all EVE is like 90/100 in score with me!

I like EVE Voice, and one of the corporations I was in used it very much, even made it mandatory. But when we joined an already established alliance that was using Teamspeak (later, Ventrilo) it kind of just disappeared. I asked people if they wanted to use EVE Voice for fleets and such, but they always said they were on Vent already.
Sorry, but EVE Voice can't really compete with already established software. Even though it's good for people that don't have ventrilo servers and such.

I don't use Eve-voice because
a) it is not an out of game feature and I can't talk/listen once I logged off from Eve or when Eve crashed/froze up
b) it has fewer options than eg. Ventrilo where I can adjust the volume of each speaker individually, giving me a nice sound equal level for everyone talking |

See this?
I hate to say it, but this is what Sony is doing right for "EvE Voice". An out of game correspondence with the promise of voice capabilities soon(TM). Its a minimalistic launcher, built on (I would assume) Python; with a Qt front-end.
I can has EvE Lite? It doen't even have to be a launcher. Maybe a a Steam-esque Community Interface

Eve voice always worked great on my computer and I use it to communicate with my corp mates. One of them hates to type in the chat channel and as time passed we all got used to chat using Eve voice. It's usefull for small gang ops, when running missions, training new players, etc.
One time my brother heard me talking in my room and thought I've finally lost it speeking to myself while playing "my game"

I can't turn down people or turn them up. So either its like me listening to Death Viking Metal band.. or its a whisper. So I don't use eve-voice.
If you (guys) were able to make it so we could turn people up and down... and make it so when we use the ingame voice it doesn't lag us out.

Some of the things said about eve voice in this thread are not true from my experience. I love eve voice myself.
When the client crashes, Eve voice still works until you reconnect. At some point, it will drop you and you have to reconnect, but you still get to tell everyone that you crashed.
Eve voice when someone is in Jita is unaffected. We would be talking to the person the whole time.
That being said, here's my comments on eve voice.
1. I really like the speaker icon in chat. It helps me learn who's voice is whose. 2. I really like that you can join multiple channels at once and switch speaking channels. 3. I wish you could see the speaker icons from any client. I can't see if someone is in voice, so I know to join or not. 4. Incoming and outgoing volumes vary greatly. Can eve automatically normalize all of them to one level. 5. When you are listening to multiple channels, it would be nice to have the non-speaking channels at reduced volume. 6. It would be nice to set a talk key for each channel instead of the "make speaking channel" functionality. 7. When you are talking in a channel that is not visible, can we get the tab to highlight red like the speaker? This would help talking in the wrong channel. 8. I really like that you have some sense of security that your comms aren't being heard by spys that just have the vent password.
Eve voice should replace vent and ts eventually as the ui integration progresses. Keep it up CCP!

I don't use it much - my corp uses Vent and it means that if one of us crashes you don't also lose voice comms, this is particularly important when PVPing.
however Eve voice has been great to set up ad-hoc voice chats with people out of corp for various reasons - I havn't had any problems with it with up to 5 people chatting at once - I think it's a very good addition to the game.

One casual corp I was in used it - its a big improvement over no voice chat.
But TS/Vent works better and most players use them.

I used it once and found it didn't offer me anything over vent except the option to slow my client down to a crawl and crash at 5 minute intervals. I haven't used it since to the extent that upon reading this thread I had to think about it and check my chat windows to remember what EVE Voice actually was.

I've used it as a diplomatic tool and for that it is very nice.
However experiences with client crashes and added lag made us hire a vent server real quick again for the purpose of fleetcoms. Also the lack of an out of eve client for the purpose of being able to tell you've lost connection is an issue. - - -

agreeing with many others. Ventrillo still lets me communicate when the game crashes out on me or during huge 3 minute lag spikes.
When the game is stable enough that crashing out is as rare as in Eve's competitors' games is when far more people will choose eve voice.

Used it mainly in faction warfare where there was a bunch of people who come from many different corps.
For 0.0 alliance fleets, software like TeamSpeak is much better.

Eve Voice pretty much makes faction warfare fleet/gang ops possible, so big thumbs up there. I don't think you'd ever get the rabble that is a FW militia to work well enough together to use TS or Vent, but EV can be forced (almost) on fleet members. I don't think anyone expects it to be a top-tier voice system, just "good enough". For proper alliance fleet work you aren't going to replace TS/Vent any time soon.
It would be nice to improve the reliability a bit though. I have lost ships because I didn't understand FC orders due to warbling or the like; oh, and can you fix people's regional accents please?
As for enhancements, it might be useful to have multiple talk buttons for multiple channels; specifically for fleet leadership...
* Squad members just talk in squad (maybe a separate button for designated scouts?) * Squad leads have 1 button for squad and 1 button for WC + other squad leads in their wing * WCs have 1 button for their squad leads, and one for other WCs and the FC * FC has one for WCs and the FC, and one for the entire fleet
This would, I suspect, do a lot to help turn blobs into organised fleets.
"Move last speaker to top" is really useful in fleets.

We are constantly using it during corp ops and it works great. Voice quality is great and it's quite reliable. Shame id does not want to work with satelite / dialup connections.
