I find it useful however, it would be nice to be able to set the volume for individuals. Like Ventrilo... :)

I used to to good effect during FW ops--for listening!
Was only able to get it to accept my voice input once, right after a patch, and then the next day it went back to being a listening-only tool.
So... it rather sucks imo.

Vent all the way.
I'm not sure how you turn that around. After the past two months, I can say it's about habit and they are hard to break. |

Well, time to do a better complain.
The problems of Eve Voice :
- No external client (CRITICAL)
- No "normalization" of the volume. There are people who speak louder and some who speak weaker, sometimes in the same channel. It is hard to find a volume who can permit to hear everyone without problems.
- Impossible to MUTE SOMEONE who is speaking. When you don't want hear someone, you can do nothing, apart leaving voice.
- Difficult to know WHO is speaking. You need to be in a fleet, or a big channel window, to know who speak. Seriously annoying. There is free space at left of "a- A+ [...]" on the channel window, CCP should add the name of the speaker here.
- Some crashs (Out of the channel, sometimes, without doing something)

I've all but stopped using EVE voice(I use it on the rare chance I join a pickup gang in FW).
It randomly kicks people out during the worst time and there is no option to change individual volume levels. I gladly pay for a vent server that is dependable and lets me change other peoples volumes to a comfortable level. Murashu Agony's End |

I've tried to use EVE Voice a few times. It's nice that I can set channels so that the speaker on EVE Voice gets punted to the top of the list with a speech bubble present.
What I don't like is that EVE's support for sound is broken, so turning sound on (either sound effects or EVE Voice) makes EVE run perceptibly slower, and (more) prone to crashing.
EVE voice doesn't work when EVE is not running. If EVE crashes in the middle of an operation I have no way of telling people that I've crashed and will be back promptly.
I'd love to have in-space brackets to show which ship is piloted by the person currently talking. A universal comms channel that shows the face of the person whose voice I'm currently hearing, and lists the current broadcasts (this target, I need shield/cap/armour, align to X) would be nice.

I joined a PUG last night that was using EVE voice and once again showed me how much I dislike it. I could barely hear the FC but other members were uncomfortably loud. I never could transmit although I know my mic was working since I was on skype at the same time and logged on vent later with no issues.
Everytime I use EVE voice I have to switch from my speakers to my headset because it doesn't default to my headset for some reason. Murashu Agony's End |

To say something positive here, I've enjoyed to use it during live dev blogs last year. Since then, I can't think of any more pleasant experience with it (because of the reasons listed in above posts).

make the push to talk keys work no matter what type of keyboard.
I have a ps2 keyboard and i can listen but not talk since eve voice ignores all push to talk keys I set. none of them work, and no I don't have xfire.

Tried it a long time ago. As it crashes together with the Eve client I honestly prefer Ventrilo.

I dunno if it's been requested or not , but how about the ability to adjust other players volume levels?
Some players end up being very loud while others are far to quiet, this if anything should be addressed.

Good for faction war... but seeing as you'd have to tie me down and put a gun to my head to ever join back up with a militia, I think it's a not-so-good feature.
First step... fix FW, then come back here and ask us what we think.

I use it all the time, but it seems to have a lot of problems, sometimes you can fix it by dropping/rejoining Voice, sometimes you have to log out and log back in which is a pain.
Also, can you make a priority system where higher priority voices (FCs, Wing/Squad commanders) will auto-mute lower priority talkers while they are speaking (and while they are speaking only) so that there is less chance of something important being missed?

I should really post this as a bug report, but I'm lazy as...
I had a gang set up and made it compulsory voice. We then decided to use TS instead, so I removed the compulsory voice flag and we all turned Eve voice off. After that, every time someone joined the fleet, the entire fleet was dragged back into voice. We ended up having to disband the fleet.

I have used it sparingly mostly because of many reason allready listed. (being outside the client being the main one)
That said I have found it usefull in small pickup groups. Basically 3-5 ships and it works well for us. Otherwise we tend to use Vent or TS *

I just set "move the most recent speaker to top," that tells me who is speaking at the moment. Also if you go into broadcasts I believe it does in fact show a history of who is speaking where. __________________________________

"Move the most recent speaker to top" work ONLY on the channel where you enabled EvE Voice.
So, if you are not in the same channel than Eve Voice, you don't know who speak.
If you leave the channel and/or go back into it, you don't know who was speaking just one moment ago (resorted alphabeticaly).
Also, as I stated, you have to be in a fleet to have access to the broadcast window and voice history. If you use Eve Voice daily for intra-corp communication, so not only in a fleet, then you don't know who speak.
Seriously, this option is not enough, as it can't cover all situations. CCP must correct it.

If I use Eve Voice I lose comms when Eve crashes or I log out. Obviously, I expect this the way Eve Voice is implemented. As a result, I need to use an external voice comms program (TS in the case of my main's alliance). No point in running 2, so I'll never have a use for Eve Voice.
Make it a standalone client (perhaps with TS Overlay style display within Eve's GUI) and it'll be a lot more attractive.

Big fan of EV. our corp pretty much uses it exclusivly and for Militia work it is indispensable. Having used both TS and Vent in other Corps I can say that for the Most part I prefer the simplicity and ease that EV provides and its integration with the Fleet panel is great Nothing in TS or vent come close (I don't like playing in Windowed mode Alt Tabbing or running that God-awful FPS sucking TS overlay. But.....
1. Keys don't stay bound and there doesn't seem to be any good Troubleshooting info on how to fix them.
2. Volume controls needs tweaking I hate having to tell someone else to turn their volume up or Down. give us the ability to Right click on a player and adjust the volume.
3. External client with integrated features please so we can keep talking if Eve Crashes.
4. Wheres that Voice Changer?? ---------------------------------------- Happiness is a Wet Pod

It works great, i use it often.
Where it REALLY SHINES :
Faction War / and or / Multi Corp group ventures.
Gettin a bunch of people who just met on voice quickly and easy, not having to worry about 1/2 the ppl use vent 1/2 use TS and the other 1/2 use skype or some ****
MultiChannel Voice
I love the way you can be in multiple voice channels and still hear what is going on in other channels while speaking in a diffrent one
FEATURE I WOULD LOVE TO SEE ***
Voice in LOCAL / A new audio dimension to smack talk.
Make it MANDATORY make it UNTURNOFFABLE make it REAL.
I love the ingame voice it works well, no lag, great features. But for the most part i use vent cuz when your logging in and out of 8 or so diffrent toons you can still ***** at your corpes in vent.

Evevoice is good, the sound qality is not bad, if only it was not a part of eve it would be even better
Have it as its own program would be a lot better, for when eve dies the coms does not

I've been told to avoid it like the plague. Quality of audio and crash bugs are the common complaints I hear.
I've never been in a corp or alliance that reliably used, or preferred the use of eve voice.

Dear CCP, The fact that most, if not all, large 0.0 alliances still use TS or Vent, should tell you something. Clearly, using out of game voice comms is prefered over EV. I dont know whether that is because of the requirement to actually be logged in with your character or because of the ease of functions like channel command or something else entirely. If it were as good as or better than the other stand-alone software out there, everybody would be using it, and not just smaller empire corps, FW corps and such (no offense).
I admit I have not used in ages, I tried it when it was first introduced, and occasionally listened to Live dev-blogs (where have they gone btw?), but other than that, I found that TS or vent simply do the job better. |
