just come back from a break to the game and with a big enough income to be flying a t2 cruiser, i was checking out some of the recons and pretty surprised by the lachesis' price of about half that of the other recons i checked out
whats the deal, is it really unflyable or what?

Use it to tackle almost anything flying through a low sec camp.

It's a cheeper alternative to the Arazu
It's cheep becuase it sucks.
has 1 less low slot then the Arazu meaning the Arazu is the better armor\shield\speed tanker and can set up better DPS fit's the Lacheez
It has only 5 highslots but 3 missle & gun hardpoints meaning it fails as both a missle ship or gun ship, or missle & gun ship.

Nope, its a great ship but most people dont realize how hard it got buffed with QR patch yet.
Low demand makes for cheap ships, but ideal opportunity to buy a few and have fun with it.

Yes, it really is. Thanks to the horrible split weapon layout your dps really isn't that much better than an Arazu, and far from good enough to compensate for the lack of a covops cloak. The only real reason to ever fly one is the low price tag. -----------

actually no.
The lachesis is a completely superior ship than the arazu in EVERY POSSIBLE WAY once the Arazu uncloaks.

I love my lach, though it performs best when in gangs. Mine paired with my buddy has around a 90km point and is DD tanked.

It's not so much the problem with the ships, it's the problem with damps, the tackle bonus to the Lolchesis and the Arazu aren't too shabby, but damps are so **** you've automatically lost half of its worth right there. If you use it as a long-range tackler, it isn't too bad.
Gallente Recons generally have a rule of being awful for their designed Ewar anyway, until damps are boosted, they'll be the runts of the litter.

Edited by: Benedikt Miloslav on 07/05/2009 16:08:08 It actually is a very good replacement for the Deimos. Good buffer, 18km scrambler, nice DPS, etc. But for what it's really meant to do, the Arazu is almost as good, kinda like what the Huginn is to the Rapier. The lachesis does however make a good low sec gate camp tackler, as stated.
To be honest, the only recons that are truly better than it are the Curse, Pilgrim and Rook. The rest are almost as bad, if not worse.

Lachesis is the new huginn, Arazu is the new Rapier, assuming of course you fit a proper shield tank instead of damps.
Damps are only good for holding down a solo target that doesn't have any friends nearby, so that your backup can get there and kill it. So if you want to fit damps, the lach is terrible, it's much better to use an arazu so you can find targets while cloaked, because unless the target is AFK, he'll see a lach on scan long before you can find him.

That's bullschit... Tho the 18k scram is nice, I'll grant you that. But a replacement for the Deimos it is not. ---

I'd not say gallente recons are bad, its just people are too much thinking in the old ways of dampening a single target to 3km lockrange and slowly grinding it down solo.
They have a lot of nice fitting variations if you go for ewar setups, not to mention that the mwd disruption has that nice side bonus of warp scrambling the victim too.
I'd say the capability of removing MWD from like 4 targets the same time is nothing to sneeze at given the ranges you can get with approriate gang booster, though it varies on how much it hurts the victim.
What I'd like to see for damps (and also target painters and TDs maybe) is SDAs affecting them, so those ships can be fitted for long-range ewar roles. Also unnerf ecm range imo, but thats a year or two too early to ask I guess.
Ideally split up the SDA or script it into a range and strength modifier so we see some variation in fittings there.

My opinion is completely opposite of yours guys.Im specialized for flying gallente recons and have to say that those are my favorite pvp ships.Why..simple because I can either solo in it or support a gang with it.They re not designed to fight in close and that where the damps kick in.the orbiting range will be determined by ur damp skills and off course the selection of the ammo. The high slots selection will be depending of ur missiles and hybrids skills.I usually go with 3 launchers..why...because knowing ur opponent ship weak spots helps u select right dmg type of missiles.Cause ur packing damps on u dont need no tank...ur damps should be ur tank on this ship.on lows I put dmg mods for hybrids or missiles..whatever fits u.For solo I would go with a scrambler, when in fleet with disruptor. All u have to think about is a drone boats so lock them at min 65k off, damp them and then aproach for scram in.Plan ur attack cause ur fighting in range and dont let enemy get too close and thats the game with lach...u can kill with almoust bs in a belts,a bc,a hac.and even hvy.interdictor if hes taking a gate gun fire...since probing is becomed not so easy i wouldnt put a cloak on this one..so the real deal is knowing enemy ship and its capabilities such as speed...weakest ressists, locking range...that way u know what to engage and what not and when.It took me quite some time to figure all but maybe out of other recon ship i would pick a curse...maybe
