I just want to login and train a skill, and it's like every week there's a new, small client patch that have to install. It's getting annoying. It's already tedious enough to keep up with this character as far as training goes especially since I've been doing it since 2003.
Get your act together and release a patch that's right the first time.

I think it might be time for you to use the lethal injection on your characters and let them enjoy eternal rest. That way you'll never have to be annoyed by patches or logging in ever again. |

Damn you CCP for frequently patching your game! Why can't you let bugs and issues linger on for months without addressing them? Those five minute downloads ruin my play experience. Ruin! |

I also am mad at the prospect of spending a few seconds per week automatically updating my client.

Seriously man, its like you are patching the code line by line by hand every time. Run launcher, tab to browser or whatever, check eve in a minute or 2 an play....no wait, when i look at it... you are right, it just cant possibly be done. |

No, but as it is now the game laucher starts up checks if there is a patch, gives you a "everything is ok" then starts the client. You try to log into the game, a window pops up telling you that you need to install small fix 6.0.1 #787192798178787 and that you should hit OK. You do so and a 5mb patch gets downloaded restarting your Game Client.
So why does the Launcher say the game is up to date and not just downloads the 5mb small fix instead is very strange.

Just pin Eve.exe to your taskbar. Launch the game directly, restart if patch required. Problem solved.

Greetings capsuleer,
There are obvious answers to this problem. I feel the same as from time to time, a quick update to the skill queue as you dash out takes longer than anticipated because the client patching is not yet integrated into the launcher. A minor annoyance though, and I'd prefer updates to no updates definitely.
However - a non-client based way to change the skill queue, such as, I don't know, this EVE Gate thing, would be useful. And having the launcher actually patch the client updates as well, magic.
Two usability tweaks that would be great.
Regards,
Shian Yang

You're so exhausted by downloading tiny patches to make your client run better? How entitled are you? Aside from being a complete exaggeration of a non-existent problem, your thread is just plain rude. Do you always get it right the first time? You'll sy yes, no doubt. Your type usually does. |

The updates the client gets for itself are slightly different from the regular patches handled by the launcher, while it takes roughly three hours to build a normal patch the client update can be built and deployed in under ten minutes. We know they are annoying so we try to use them only when a serious enough bug has been found a few hours before deployment. There are plans for having the launcher handle these but no commitment on when they are realized. Check out my EVE Gate broadcast log for semi-regular updates on various EVE development: https://gate.eveonline.com/Profile/CCP%20Gangleri/StatusUpdates

Greetings capsuleer,
Yes, capsuleer Tank CEO asked in a brusque, rude manner. However, two simple questions:
(a) Would the option to change your skill queue from outside of the client be of benefit to you? For example, if you were able to access it with a mobile device while on the run.
(b) Would having client patches integrated into the launcher so you can (optionally) leave it running and patching be beneficial?
I think in both instances they are good features to have which might not be covered by 80/20 but which increase usability and helps smooth the generic process. All good software benefit from seemingly minor things like this.
Regards,
Shian Yang |
