For skills in Mining, Research, Probing -- whatever combination of non-combat skills that make sense.
You earn "time points" that can be spent on that class of skill whenever you actually perform that skill, such as mining, probing, researching, manufacturing.
Time points are small fractional points that increase your learning rate for that skill I.E small decrements in training time multiplyer like .1% at a time.
Time points are lost for that class upon leveling any skill in that class to the next tier. You don't earn any time points for a skill you are already maxed out on.

Zabrina, thanks for your idea but it has already been proposed several times with the same outcome, no.

lol, reactionaries.
I understand the inertia in this, but this type of gaining experience through actual *use* of that skill is throttled pretty good by the fact that it resets everytime you gain a new tier in that skill.
The real impact would not be on skill training times. Thats neglible ... as anybody would know if they start playing around whith thier learning stats with Eve-mon. Out of the skill points I've earned, the actual time savings from current stats I had vs optimum stats I had only would have speeded up training by a whopping 4% faster. (including implants)
Thats the type of reduction I'm talking about with non-combat related skills. And my idea is finite in that you can't get any more bonus for a class when a skill being used is already maxed out.
The idea isn't really about skill times. It's about giving a wider participation in the economic aspect and allows new players (or new toons) to simultaneous skill training in a very limited way.
I would hate to guess on how many reactionaries that so readily say *NO* advocate simulatanous training in some way.

Zabrina, these things get proposed 10 times a week. The reply is always NO. Care to guess why? Because skill training is well balanced at the moment. So unless you can prove that the current system isn't balanced the anwser will remain NO.

Let x be the skill points of player 1, let y be the skill points of player 2. for any given continuous training function f(t)
if x < y
and
f(0) < f(t)
As t -> inf.
then for any given interval
xf(t) < yf(t)

Zabrina, this reason that people are saying no is fairly simple. Back in bata (or so I have heard) this was allowed and CCP found that people just left ships set up that could do it for hours. For example a basic miner on a max out indy, find a large roid and leave for several hours. Come back to a full cargo hold and a significant increase in skills.
This is the reason its not possible and the reason it will never be re-introduced. Macrointel, the place were the nature order of the universe does not hold sway. Pirates and ore thief's are congratulated by carebears for the actions. |

UnableToCatchUpWithOlderPlayers =! NotBalanced. Try again.
Also, it's untrue. f(t) can be adjusted by training the learning skills.

Some of us started playing Eve because we liked the lack of skill grinding.
It's been this way from the start. If you don't like the skill training mechanics you can always go find another game.
