So I lost a Legion earlier today in a Minor Blood Annex complex(no DED rating). This legion had a 800dps omni tank and has no problems with anything up to class 3 wormholes. I scanned down the site and gave a quick Google search for any information and didn't find anything relevant. I warp in and instapop a frigate. Within 15 seconds I'm nueted, warp scrammed, webbed, and in another 30 seconds...dead. I was cap drained within 15 seconds of entering the site and unable to regen cap.
How exactly are you to survive an encounter like this without a passive tanked missile shooting boat?

Obviously not with an active tanked legion.

Post 22 describes it although its an old post, may be out of date. They did it with 5 ships so its a 10/10? http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=439483

Well obviously. My concern is getting instantly locked down where you can't even run. I was dead before I even entered the complex because there was no way for me to escape. I understand this is EvE and all but losing 1.5bil without even having a chance is a kick in the nuts.

you had a chance. your chance was not to warp into something unknown with a 1.5 bil ship but to ask in the forums or ingame channels BEFORE

You didn't know what you were getting into, and you were getting into it with a 1.5b ISK ship. You did the PvE equivalent of flying through 0.0 without a scout.
This is EVE. If you give it half the chance, it will go Ted Turner on your balls.

Edited by: Irdia Freelancer on 15/09/2009 21:20:42 1500 mil loss?
Only costs about 500 mil to buy T3 ship plus subs. It may have cost you more when you purchased your ship, but the prices come down a lot. Put up highest price buy orders and its about 500 mil to buy. If its only 500 mil to replace the ship, you lost the other 1000 mil just from the market changing? Or did you have very expensive mods on it - then its not the ship cost but fittings.
I had a low sec escalation site a while back, warped in to about 50 ships of which 1 was battleship sized with most crusier/battlecruiser (about 9 elite crusiers with like 270-280k bounties) that neuted the cap out of my legion. The frigates did web/scram me but I took care of them first and speed tanked from then on. With no cap had no burner, no armor rep, no guns - did have a drone sub installed. It took till had killed all but 6 ships before I started to get some cap and could start to rep some armor damage. Without speed tanking I would have lost the ship very quickly near the start. After removing the scrams I warp aligned to the object away from the chasing npc's ready to jump if damage got too bad. After all the effort I got a 2 mil deadspace module off the battleship. sometime active tanking not the best.

It's a hard lesson, and one which anyone who has played EVE for any amount of time has learned the hard way at one point or another. A simple rule of thumb to save a lot of heartache: if you're doing something for the first time, whether it's a 6/10 plex or low sec pvp, scout it out in something cheap.

And I thought suicide was painless?
You could have sent in something WAY cheaper, and should have been aware that not all plexes are soloable....
Instead you took in an expensive cruiser.
Who do you think it to blame? Just because you are dumb does not mean you had methods available to keep that ship alive.

On a side note I remember i managed to solo 2 with a passive drake some time ago.

I am finding it hard to beleave that you say you have no problems with Class 3 wormhole sites solo, I am guessing you havent been in Class 3 for very long or you have had the easy sites that dont Web and Scam you. Just jump into a hacking site and see what they do to you. even with spider tanking Battleships it can he hair rasing. 3 battleships hitting you for 1000 damage per missile with 77% rez on each. and i have personly seen a Passive tanked Drake get droped in a few seconds with full agro. and seen another on scanner going from Drake to Wreck in a Hard Site. this is my experience in WH's

Legion is pretty ideal for C3s infact.
It is a very different beast to the drake with a tiny sig in comparison ( average rigged Drake can have a larger sig than an armor tanked BS ), it's also a lot quicker. That means much less damage.
Definitely intend to get one for this when I get around to polishing off the skills.

I lived in a C3 wormhole on my own for a month with a POS for refining etc, I soloed every site that came up on my own including mag and radar sites and I did it in a loki, I had to bring in an ammo manufacturing array as ammo logistics were a nightmare but I had no problems after that, if you can't do it, skill up.

Unless I get jumped by pirates in the middle of the fight Class 3 sites are not much problem even if they do web and scram. Just kill the offending ships. I run them in an armor tanked sentry Domi with little trouble although the freaking towers can be a pain.

Edited by: Ginny Weasly on 16/09/2009 11:55:40 Well i havent tryed T3 Ships yet due to the rip off price of them at the min.. they must be able to take silly amount of damage and be the ship to solo anything in the game. anyway i canrt disagree with the T3,
But solo in a Domi.. now that i can say how the ****.. my toon is maxed in the gall tree with Ships (subcap)and Drones and Guns. Bar T3 ofc. you will have to post your setup dude as the Domi Spider tanks has a hard time with the 3 Battleships damage. i am really interested on what your using.
Edit: added subcap to the ship bit

Normal dual LAR II fit. I am VERY active though. Constantly warping in and out, dumping drones if I have to and picking them up later. I usually warp in, drop sentries until the range is bad and then pick them up and warp out. Then warp back in at a different range and from a different angle. But that is usually just against multiple BS spawn. Against anything smaller I just stay and slug it out.

I think one of the big takeaways from this is that no matter how expensive a ship is you can lose it in a heartbeat if the situation is wrong. No one ship is built for everything, really.
