Originally by: Chribba I had NPC corp standings in mind yes, however since there are a lot more of those it would use a lot of resources, and the downside with the NPC corps is how to calculate standings. As of faction everyone gets an average value divided by 20 (since it's 20 factions) to get a "true" average, doing the same with NPC corps wouldn't be right I think.
Since hardly everyone had a standing towards ALL npc corps. While most have to the factions. If I didn't divide by the number of npc corps a pilot could easily get 10.0 standing by always do something for one corp and not get hit by any other negative standing. So for now I'm not sure how to best include NPC corps if so.
Maybe just add them up ? Not sure if that's feasible, but if for example a player has +7 +2 +0.5 -1, he gets 8.5 points. Another one might have +8 +6 +5 +5 +2 -3 -6 and gets 17 points.

Hi Chribba,
First of, thanks for all the great stuff you do, top man!
I like the board alot, but for some people who may have defective colour and contrast problems with their eyes the ship section can be confusing.
Simply put, the contrast difference between ships you can and cannot fly is very slight. I'm not sure how many people have this issue, probably not many.
Would it be possible to put a high contrast border around the ship images that can be flown? In reality a thin white border would be perfect.
Thanks for reading.

I'm glad the new global stats panel will help you notice when you hit the 20k barrier:

Interesting average stats for [eb] users: 30.2m SP and 781m ISK.

You do have a certain habit of finding issues that needs fixing, such as the combat log analyzer that has been broken since the weapon grouping was introduced. I'm looking forward to see the working version of that screenshot.

If anyone of you have combat logs that you want to share with me to test stuff feel free to email them to support that-little-a-sign eve-files.com (zipped preferebly).
What I am looking for is a mix of turrets/missiles, same for incoming fire. Full damage notifications as well as simple. Grouped weapons and non-grouped. The more enemies (fleet or mission) the better as it gives more info to spot bugs at.
Or just poke me in-game for more details.

From page 6 of this thread:

Thanks for pointing it out. Missed it amongst all the posts.
I think this rating could be improved upon, as it dont always makes sence. take for instance: http://eveboard.com/pilot/Drahcir_Nasom/ranks Since he doesnt have any level 3 skills he is penalised with a 1000 rank position...
Also it doesnt make sense to measure who is best at level 3 or 4 skills when level 5 is the ultimate goal!? If a straight average is used aswell then the isk you got in your wallet (which fluktuates for most of us) is just as important as skillpoints.
Id like to suggest a new formula that ass a veight to the diffrent measurements: Skillpoint * 4 Skillnumber * 3 Level 5 skill * 2 Certificates * 2 Elite sertificates * 1.5 Skill value * 1 Piloted ships * 1 Blueprints used * 1 Modules used * 1 (Isk * 0.5)
Since all pilots have score in theese categories (except isk) it would be more fair, and reflect better the true "Bestness" of a character IMHO.

Chribba,
As a new player, thanks for creating such a neat system to use. Appreciate it greatly. Question, for anyone, my picture isn't showing up on my sheet. What do I have to do to make that happen? Love the wealth of information to be seen and sorted through. Thanks again.

I haven't looked through all 15 pages of this thread, so I don't know if this has been addressed yet, but here it goes...
I just recently registered with eveboard and I have noticed a few things. 1) I'm trying to sell this character, and I don't see where jump clones are listed for the characters. Do jump clones get transferred with the character? If so it would be nice to have them listed. 2) After registering, I jumped from a no-implant clone to my +3 implant clone. It now doesn't appear that the site updates very quickly (if at all). It would be nice for my potential buyers to see that I do actually have implants.
Other than that, It's a pretty nice site.

If there's a need for the values to be overlooked again I'm all for discussing out the best calculations with everyone.
Anyone else have comments on the above suggestion? I can see a problem now with the Piloted ships/blueprints/modules - the calculation needed to make those will be a pain, seeing as they'd need to be calculated every time unless I recode the whole rank functions. As it is now ranks can be pretty much calculated on the fly with a single query (takes 1-2 seconds atm for all pilots) but the number of rows generated by ship/bp/modules would be a lot (and the nesting even worse).

The API does not list jump clones afaik, as for the implants they should update as soon as the API updates as well (so once an hour) if the implants does not update it could be either the API now giving correct details if the char was just transferred or a bug on my side. If you are still seeing the implant problem let me know what char and I will look into it.

As someone who also is penalised for having a "clean" skill sheet I wouldn't mind seeing level 0-4 skills removed from the ranking calculations.
Maybe something like this:
Skillpoint * 3 Level 5 skill * 2 Skillnumber * 1.5 Elite certificates * 1.5 Certificates * 1 Skill value * 1

The problem I see with just having lvl 5 skills counted, is that there are many low rank lvl 5's that take no time at all to get, compared to others just to get to lvl 4. Example, subsystems, 20 of them at rank 1 doesnt take long to train up and would boost the owners ranking in no time. There are many high ranking skills that take a lot longer just to get to lvl 4. Also you'd could end up with the similar Drahcir Nasom problem again. Someone could have a couple hundred lvl 4 skills and it would count for nothing yet the character would be very capable with that many lvl 4's.

However this is offset by the larger value of skillpoint. But skillpoint don't show what you can DO with your skills. IE if you train all the wrong skill so you cannot fly any ships or use any t2 modules or any BPO.

I understand the "need for speed" both in Eve and in eveboard Would it be possible to calculate and cache the bpo, ships and modules just once every day? Except for fresh characters any changes to these categories are slow and dont need 10min refresh rates. --- Live and learn, die and learn more! http://www.dukefoss.com/eve/ |

Just count the number of ranks at level 5 skills then.

I think its fine as it is currently, a 1000 pt penaltie for having no skills at lv3 divided by the 28 catagorys currently counted is a very small number that will have little impact on your overall score...
Maybe add a rank for #skills at lv3 and above instead of individule level ranks along with total sp in lv3 and above skills?
I have no objection to piloted ships/modules/blueprints being added to the ranks if a way can be found to implement them without killing the eb servers.

Hi Chribba, very nice page i must say. I have admit i didn't quite read all of the 14 pages here (too much sorry), but i have small problem with the site. There are 2 pictures of character bigger one (directly in profile) and smaller one (used for example for signatures). My problem lies in the fact that these 2 differ. Big one is the right one. Small one is the one i used long time ago (i used function of making new portrait in the past). Is there any way how can one fix this? ----------------------------- EvE Mobile Skill Planner guide for Windows Mobile based devices |
