I was wondering how is the Taranis / Ares compared to the Amarr and Minmatar interceptors for these type of engagements? (inty vs. inty or inty vs. assault frigate)

Taranis is king of the intys for gank/dps. Crusader is probably the best interceptor to actually tackle and play the interceptor scout role because it doesnt get gimped ranged like the ranis and its faster.

Why that interceptor over all the other ones?
Because the way I fly it, Tackle > Survavibility > Damage.
Damage is ridiculous, the ship is extremely fast, can warp disrupt at 29k (without overloading) and most important, it has 3 mid slots. The 3rd mid lets me put a cap booster, making it almost 100% neut proof. I can't remember how many times my cap booster saved me and allowed me to hold the target for long enough for my friends (with dps) to arrive.
TL;DR Gallente inties are great: best damage inty (Taranis) and in my opinion, also the best tackle inty, Ares (but it depends on your flying style) However, if you want to be able to actually kill stuff, choose the taranis. I can still do damage in my ares, but its dps is so bad that I'm not a threat to anything else than T1 frigs, covert ops, some inties, stealth bombers and some destroyers.

Ares is simply the best fleet tackle inty there is, Taranis is excellent combat inty.
My rational is this:
Each race has one combat inty and one fleet (bonus to tackle mods) inty.
*Amarr - Crusader is excellent combat inty and very fast if you want to build to kill fleet inty's - Malediction is a very fast fleet tackle inty that can have some staying power with good resists (compared to other inty's)
*Caldari - Crow is excellent combat inty that has the advantage is doing damage from a stand off range. Unique in that regard - Raptor is the fleet inty with a bonus to tackle mods. Some try to use it as a blaster inty but I don't like the ship in that role. Does not have great speed.
*Minmatar - Claw is combat inty. Set for speed is the fastest inty in game. Good for countering fleet cepters, not much else imo. - Stiletto is the fleet inty and the only cepter with four mids which puts it right up with the best for that bonused tackle. It is about the sixth slowest cepter though, only a raptor and taranis is slower.
*Gallente - Taranis...*****en combat inty and nuff said. read the trillion other ranis fanboi posts for more. - Ares...the ares is unique in fleet, bonused tackle cepters in the following way. In every other race, the combat inty is faster than the fleet tackle inty, not with Gallente. As a matter of fact, the Ares is the fastest bonused fleet tackle inty in this game.
If you want a fast inty to pursuit a tackle, then the ares is really hard to beat. It is no dps monster, but that is what you have your pals for.

Wouldn't the fact you can fit an additional sensor booster to a stiletto make it better interceptor than the Ares?

Imho the taranis is king in inty vs inty fight. The sheer damage it can put out is way above any other interceptor. You can any other interceptor in it. -- The future is black.

the taranis will be next to useless when the daredevil changes happen. Expect a paradigm shift in the way interceptors are used and their tackle ability and combat ability as some f the new pirate ships are faster, more powerful and have better chance of survival.

His point is still valid, many combat ceptor pilots will look hard at the new faction frigs for the same roles they currently use combat ceptors for if ISK is not a big concern. AF fanbois too. I know I will... Join RvB!
