I would really love some alternative camera views. Eve trailers always look amazing and part of what makes them look that good is the sense of movement in the videos. I think it's hard to recreate the same feeling of action/movement when playing the game.
For instance the eve camera system lack a basic fly-by option. I think a fly-by option is pretty basic and it surprises me that this was not included from the start. I would really like to see this option in the game. Today's camera views feel static. Rotating the camera around my carrier gives me a poor impression of size and immersion, while a close fly-by would give me and others a sense of awe.
I really appreciate that CCP gave us the opportunity to track objects with the camera, however i believe that this too could be improved if it could be combined with a view where the ship is tracked while the camera is moving around. (i'm thinking of a combination of fly-by and/or having the camera move/zoom within set parameters)
Having a camera mode where the camera is able to move completely free through space would be wonderful (and cinematic).
A control panel for the camera instead of popup menus would further improve and simplify the handling of the camera. While the control panel might be necessary to control advanced camera views you should be able to switch it off if you just wanna run the basic camera view.
Note that i dont propose to remove the old camera views. I realize that the old "static" camera views is more appropriate for combat situations requiring fast decisions. However if you're a grunt in a fleet and you strictly use the overview for your info, or just randomly traveling in space you will probably love the extra camera views. Especially with fleet formations creeping up on us.
Better views will let us appreciate the beautiful graphics, give us a better sense of scale, make eve more fun and contribute to bringing additional players into the game.
CCP please have a look at a couple of flight/car simulations, get some inspiration there.

I totally agree with you, the recent dominion trailer increased that need even more :), it would be fantastic to have some other view, as the current set as parent does not really satisfy me. Caldari FTW lol |

If you've read the fluff in the Eve Chronicles, and watched the Eve Incarna teaser trailer (you can find it on youtube), the current camera view basically IS c-pit view. I won't deny the idea is nice, but I don't see it happening.
As for the extra camera angles, flyby, etc. that would be nice. As it is, I just center the view on one of my drones and zoom out a bit to get a more cinematic view. It's not the same, but a halfway decent workaround. The idea is great, however.

I think there would be few people who would not /sign this.
The suggestion you make for the camera control panel is an interesting one, and probably the most logical way going forward to have the camera control system.
If there were two modes:
1)Fixed 2)Full control
The fixed mode is what we have now, with the camera locking onto any object in space with the option of controlling zoom and parent/interest.
Full control would be exactly that; full control, with a GUI and complete flexibility on where the camera is and how it acts/reacts to on-screen action.
I would add:
Track Pan, swish-pan Tilt Zoom, swish-zoom Pivot/orbit (and any combination of the above; like Track+Tilt and Zoom+track) Time controls (track for 5 seconds, pan for 2 seconds, swish-zoom for 1 second, then tilt 90 degrees) Distance controls Overall camera positioning system for objects on-grid/within 250 km
Additional effects:
Motion Blur Depth of Field (better) lens flares Super-duper HQ Screenshots (high render û probably done off-line)
All of the above is a wish-list, heck dream list, but still, worth looking intoà

AlleyKat: Great suggestions with the camera views. I think you explained my suggestion in better detail than i did
And yes, 2 modes would be best. One with control panel and one without (like now). I really hope CCP are able to work with this. Atm i feel a lot potential being wasted, with the wonderful new grapics and all.
