This one says it all, IMHO. http://content.perpetuum-online.com/images/content/shots-2009-09-0030.jpg
Having said that... while it doesn't look all that exciting, neither does Eve to a lot of folk. I figure a wait and see approach. I'm sure if CCP are at all worried about it, they'll do something when the time comes.

It would be interesting to see what those "resistances" were named as...
I feel sorry for CCP as this isn't "Inspired" it is "Stolen". Granted that WoW and GW are similar they don't effectively steal the concepts from each other.
They have just rearranged and renamed some of the fitting panel. Even High/Med/Low slots are there. You'd think they'd make an advancement to that one.
The little blue "i" for information on the current active "walker" is even smelling strongly of fish. This is ridiculous... Theres being inspired and then just plain out right stealing ideas. I'd be shocked that there is nothing CCP can do about this blatant stealing of game concepts.
I'm sure somewhere in the game they will slip up... forget to rename a mineral and change its picture or something.
They will rename stargates to motorways no doubt...
Edit:
Awwr come on... Where is the internet police? LinkageLinkage
I'll be a witness on the stand CCP!! PICK ME :D
That is poorly "modified"

90% of modern MMOs are the exact same as EQ/WoW. Quest journal, skill bar, "aggro", tank/dps/healer, they're all clones. If someone wants to use eve as a base for a new mmo, more power to them. As games develop, they go in a new direction, it won't be a carbon copy clone given a year of development.
Also, mech mmo (that isn't everquest with mechs or anime mechs), sounds awesome!

Originally by: Aloriana Jacques As far as I know, unless it's a direct code copy CCP cannot really expect to win in a court of law. You can't copyright or trademark a style except in very rare cases. Nor can you expect to win if what you're claiming damages for brought you no damages, has no chance of bringing you damages, etc.
IANAL, but...
"Direct code copy" isn't necessary. Welcome to the world of software patents and intellectual property.

Yeah, I don't buy this at all. Unless there's evidence this company actually ripped of something concrete from EVE (a texture, a piece of code, whatever) I don't think there's a problem. The EVE UI is great...so why not use the concepts from it? As someone else already pointed out a LOT of Fantasy MMOs out there are a LOT like WoW. I agree they're pretty blatantly trying to be LIKE eve...but I don't blame them and I don't think it's a problem unless they actually directly used something EVE already made.

they didn't copy. If you look the video shows a minimap. Clearly this is a completely unique UI that wasn't copied or inspired by any other game.

Look on the bright side. Maybe CCP will take this as an opportunity to (further) improve the EVE UI.
But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started.

This is what happens when company does not know how to make game accessible via UI and just uses standard context menus, moveable windows and database views.
It looks like EvE. So you can as well go all the way. Doh.

This is actually the saddest part about MMOs. Everyone and his dog played WoW, got bored/annoyed/cannot stand it any more, but still wants everything to be like WoW. So the industry stagnates.
Same with EvE here, really.

Originally by: Drokar Gazer The UI in Perpetuum Online, a game in development by a small hungarian firm, is identical to EVE's UI, just slightly modified windows, but essentially everyone here will see all the immediate resemblences. Its shocking how blantant they copy it. Look on the right the overview, exactly like EVE, and look at the tactical weapon configuration on the bottom left... just like EVE... chat channels... just like EVE.
Are you aware of this CCP?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxpZtezTplo&feature=player_embedded
There are subtle and major differences between the UI's.
The similarity between EvE and PO's UI is reminiscent of EQ2 and WoW's UI similarity.
It's not that big of a deal. All MMOs have chat channels, offensive buttons, and an overview of some sort or another. ___________________________________ "In the land of predators, the lion does not fear the jackal." -Dexter |
