hearnie wrote:also, I never saw the countdown in local, pretty sure I was offline before the match started. This confirms what I believed happened. There is a warp bubble at the center of the arena, but to allow for warps it is not activated until the match actually starts. Had the disconnect happened after match start the ship almost certainly would have stayed in place. CCP Veritas - Senior Programmer - EVE Software |

Ottersmacker wrote:If you change it, what will you say to Shadow Cartel (who arguably lost pretty much because of this)?
Surely the change should go into effect only after the qualifier stages to assure everyone qualifies on equal terms. The Shadow Cartel pilot did not log back in until the match was completed, so it wouldn't have mattered in that case what we did.
The most I'll do at this point is give Sreegs the ability to activate the bubble manually before the match begins for when there's a gap in time before match start after the teams are on grid. There's still the possibility then that the ship will disappear as they won't have any aggression on them at this point. CCP Veritas - Senior Programmer - EVE Software |

Sorry, I misspoke. The rule would have applied as stated:
The Law wrote:If a player warps out/leaves the arena, his/her ship will be destroyed. This includes disconnection emergency warps. At the end of the day, there currently exists a window where disconnection will cause an ewarp. This was held consistent for all matches in the first week.
I'm going to investigate ways we can make that window smaller. If a clean method comes from that, it will be implemented for Week 2.
I truly hope no one else disconnects during the rest of the tourney. It's a ****** thing to have happen during a match but there's not much we can do about it in the moment =/ CCP Veritas - Senior Programmer - EVE Software |

That is correct. If you disconnect but the ewarp is caught by the bubble, the player will be able to log back in and continue the match. CCP Veritas - Senior Programmer - EVE Software |

As I covered earlier, at present the bubble is put up when the match begins. As the effected player disconnected before the match began, their ewarp was not caught by the bubble. CCP Veritas - Senior Programmer - EVE Software |

The rules around ewarp are strange, and the code even stranger.
The warp bubble being activated is an automatic process, for anyone who's thinking this was referee error. So the good news is, if it's broken in some way, it was broken for everyone.
In any case, the rule is ships that ewarp out go boom. Sucks but that's what happened.
Now, the good news. As I was looking through the code wrapping my head around the sequence of events, I found a very simple switch I can pull that kills all emergency warps in the tournament system. Very similar to the way I killed the entrance-warp when y'all get moved into system.
The downside to that is that disconnects pre-match will be much less noticeable from our end. Worth the trade off? CCP Veritas - Senior Programmer - EVE Software |
