Edited by: Dian''h Might on 06/06/2010 05:45:29 How I caused the breakup of a no-name alliance through some pretty run of the mill espionage.
TL;DR at bottom
The leadup: Through the random series of events that leads up to me finding my normal sorts of targets, I came across an alliance. In my initial recon I found that they were attempting to establish residence in a wormhole. Wormholes are great places to steal stuff from, so I decided to go for it. Through my normal methods I was able to obtain a disgruntled spy in on of the corps (the CEO was pretty terrible, if the spy was to be believed), and quickly ascertained that there was some drama lurking just under the surface that could be made to erupt at the slightest provocation.
While I was in the middle of carrying out my plan, trying to figure out the best way to maximize my take, several members of the corp threw a wrench into it. Ironically it wasn't out of obligation to their corp, but rather because they were planning on podding the CEO and had decided to move their stuff from the wormhole that night. I decided I had to act sooner rather than later, as I figured the CEO might lock down the assets a little better once he was podded by his own members. I gathered some of the usual suspects to help me haul the loot and made my move. The people out to get the CEO had started moving ships out of the wormhole, presumably so they wouldn't loose them after the inevitable kick they would receive from podding the CEO.
The heist: We waited with some annoyance, watching our ISK decrease as they moved ships out. Thankfully they only moved out their own ships, opting not to rob anyone else. We had opted differently however, and quickly made our way inside. We had to make 2 wormhole jumps to get to the POS, and noticed some alliance people on dscan running a sleeper site. We arrived at the POS to find the shield down and the ships ejected, courtesy of the spy (they tell me the shield would have gone down anyway slightly after downtime). We started moving ships. Initially we were worried the alliance people in the next wormhole would notice us passing by. Thankfully they continued on blissfully unaware as we moved ship after ship from the wormhole. Eventually our orca pilot (who was raging drunk, like all good pirates should be) forgot where he was and attempted to leave, collapsing the wormhole behind him.
By now we'd taken about 900m in ships, including some command ships and a hulk (I knew I skilled up hulks for a reason). There was only one person left in the wormhole when it collapsed, and they had crap scanning skills (but a nice pile of astrometrics frigs to choose from). After 30 minutes they still couldn't pin down the new wormhole signature, so they self destructed the rest of the ships they could fly for the basic insurance and logged out. From whats been said on the forums I can only assume a random person nabbed what was left.
The aftermath: So far it was a below average corp heist. We totalled about a billion isk and it was split over several people. What I hadn't realized though was that there was a group of people in the corp/alliance consisting of several middle aged women (apparently real girls play eve?) and a circle of covert friendships that make the treaties leading up to WWI look like child's play. The real gem came when the CEO flipped out and kicked a bunch of random people. They in turn flipped out and went after him, with both sides dragging all sorts of other people into it through mutual friendships. Thanks to my coaching of the spy, we were able to turn it into a full on war between two alliances, and caused several alliance/corp mails and some forum threads which I got a good laugh at.
TL;DR version: I paid off a spy and stole a billion isk in ships in a below average corp heist. It resulted in way more drama than I could have possibly planned and caused the alliance to split in two and the remaining halves to wardec each other.

Like we say in Holland: "Ah,.. nu komt de aap uit de mouw." ("Ah, ... now the monkey comes out of the sleeve.")
Thanks for the background information and I lolled about the raging drunk orca pilot forgetting where he was, wanting to leave and collapsing the wormhole. :D

Erm, not sure if this is about the Derp/Indy thing. If it isn't, well you said it yourself, below average. If it is you get 2/10 for making a little effort by writing a fairly long troll post. There are, however, so many inaccuracies it's laughable.

It's a shame that even 'the confession' is peppered with lies too.
But still, that vindicates every move I've made over the past couple of weeks. Nice one.

Haha, Come one DT, open your eyes, if Indy would want to come up with story it would had been more accurate. If someone makes a story that does not make it true, nor does it mean it was written by Indy.Sit down for a moment and have 1 beer. If you want PVP and think Indy is a good carebear alliance for target practice then say so, why make it look like the other way around? Who is giving you those ideas? Thought the time we were under same fleet was short, i donĘt recognize the DT i knew. Rgds. Cman00

This post fits every thing that happened, I was one of the "blissfully unaware" (tired) shooting sleepers. I also know who was online in corp channel as the ships were being jetted.
Too bad DawnTreader wouldn't listen to me when I told him the first day of this, that there was someone else involved. That he had hired a spy was beyond his ego to deal with and still is. It was far easier for him to think that the female players were out to get him.
We got played, time to get over it and move on. Such is the way of New Eden... nicely played Dian'h.
To My Alliance and Friends: DawnTreader has proven his quality, no more words needed, just reload.

Unfortunately I didn't pay any of it much attention as I wasn't expecting this haul to result in a forum post. It's been a few weeks, but I do remember a ton of ships having a weird "D" character in the name, a common theme was "MuD's <shiptype>" or "D <something>". I flew out a megathron with "kamikaze" in the name that had a particularly terrible fit (whoever owned that should thank me for putting it out of its misery). Sorry I can't remember any more details, next time I go steal something I'll remember to take lots of screenshots
Originally by: DawnTreader It's a shame that even 'the confession' is peppered with lies too.
It's not a "confession". It's a write up of a theft I pulled off that turned out a bit worse than expected in some ways and a bit better than expected in others. Threads consisting of people bragging about crimes are quite common in this section of the forums. I would also like to point out that you have no idea what the truth is, you weren't there. I was there and this is about as accurate of a retelling as I can give short of frapsing the whole thing.
Originally by: DawnTreader But still, that vindicates every move I've made over the past couple of weeks. Nice one.
I think all those people that got kicked and had nothing to do with it would disagree

Would I rather be
1. Right, and too stupid to do anything about it, and be a bil less or
2. Wrong, and have a bil of ships you stole from guy 1.
I'll take my bil please.

Are you even paying attention? The OP laid out details that haven't been discussed openly. The wormhole's mysterious (drunk orca) collapse, the fact that ships were stolen and others were self-destructed, and even your own ship naming conventions. He was there, his crew did it. Quit blaming everyone else for your screw up.
I'd usually expect someone in your position to feel like an outright fool. An arrogant, brash, pig-headed moron with only betrayal and vengeance on your pathetic agenda. But I know better by now. You don't feel wrong at all, you will continue to fantasize about the great and mighty conspiracy to bend you over time and time again. After repeated attempts to inform you of the details you were ignoring (such details mentioned by the OP) and to help you, you instead followed the course of the fool and have so far refused to deviate.
You've been scammed. You've been beaten. You've been denied, refused, and ejected from your greatest asset. But your greatest loss is turning Indy from your friend to your enemy. You could have recovered easily if you kept a cool head and all the easier with Indy at your side. Instead, you are beaten and scattered, relegated to the casual PvP we send your way.
We have better things to do than entertain your paranoia. I'd recommend falling out of our interest before we change our mind.

Wanna borrow a hanky for all that foam around your mouth Cyrius?
The 'spy' was Chebri, one of Willa's 'highly reccomended and trustworthy' associates. We booted her immediatley after the theft, along with the the rest of the Willa clique because of the way they reacted. Chebri was just put out because I hadn't read her copy/paste wiki blog quickly enough for her liking.
So we lost a few hours rattings worth of ships to a guy who gets his kicks from conspiring to steal virtual property from gamers. Life goes on.
At the time even your alliance leader, Bjorn, said it was bound to be something to do with Jenny or Carden. On that ballence of probabilities we went to war with Indy, knowing it was their greatest fear, and hoping this pressure would be enough to sweat out the thief.
Turns out that apart from the Willa connection it was nothing much to do with Indy. But meh, the smack, lies and POS assualt that they reacted with is still plenty of motivation for us to enjoy an eternal war with them.
I've been 100% upfront the entire time and betrayed noone.

That's what makes this whole thing so funny, Chebri wasn't the spy. The internal politics of the alliance were kinda confusing, I'm still working mostly blind in that area, but I'm pretty sure that my spy had nothing to do with Chebri or any of the Chebri clique. We simply noticed the tension and did our best to stir things up so you'd go on a kicking spree against the first obvious target. You took the bait, sparking this entire drama and providing me with a good weeks worth of entertainment.
PS: I might be willing to give up the name + proof (chatlogs and some audio recordings) for the right sum of isk. I'd even be willing to use a 3rd party such as lady spank escrow service(tm). Mail me if you're interested (feel free to use an alt if you're too embarrassed, I won't tell anyone).

I await the tears for when someone pays you only to realize that you took what information has been presented to the general public in blogs and then followed that with a little bit of detective work and presented it all in a well written "what could have happened" post.
The great part is, few would even pay this post heed and send the ISK anyway. Please do post up something relating to proof on the people sending you ISK.

Not from where I'm sitting DT.
You betrayed your duty to your corporation by participating in escalating tensions with INDY.
You betrayed your longtime partner Mikodo by basically going Bombastic in crisis.
You betrayed your alliance by immediately jumping to (badly drawn) conclusions.
You betrayed trust with your new recruits by basically abandoning them to their own devices in the WH, and then brushing off their concerns as "emo-whining".
You betrayed the truth by clinging to your 'simplest for me solution' and ignoring simple facts, and being unwilling to put some simple puzzle pieces together.
The cost: The industrial support of your friend Mikodo, the support of an industrial alliance the size and with the track record of INDY, and a hugely profitable home.
You can cling to whatever shreds of dignity you *think* you still have but frankly, clinging to the whole "Chebri was the spy" thing makes me think your love affair with fantasy makes you more a candidate for WOW than for EVE.
Fact: This confession fits all the known facts, whether or not you allow the fact that the whole 'Chebri/Willa/Me' clique might not have been lying.
Fact: You shouldn't be leading a corp with your temperament, at all.
Fact: Calling things you don't believe propaganda is a kind of propaganda. False and wrong and stupid, but you're as much a propagandist as anyone in INDY.
Fact: I really am leaving for my honeymoon, and I really am gonna use you as a casual target for the rest of my life in Eve, cause as far as I'm concerned, that is the *only* good you can serve.
Final Fact: The fact that INDY high command threw me under the bus in the days leading up to this fiasco means that they aren't too high on my list of favorites either. The reason they *aren't* an eternal war target? They were at least willing to consider that I was telling the truth.
I look forward to reading and hearing about your future failed exploits.
Crow all you want about 'wasting people's time and isk' if it makes your time on the run more enjoyable, you'll need all the scant comfort you can gather.
This is *my* final word on the event, though probably not *the* final word. I've moved on, and the war fleet is in production.
Welcome to the world of eternal empire war. Enjoy your personal copy of "The Fugitive" an in-Eve Mini-game.

Hell, i'd laugh and thank you for the targets, but you stole stuff that belongs to good people. :(
I'd also smack about the quality of the heist when you had another wormhole you could have accessed with a lot of alliance opened arrays and suchlike, but the hilariously awesome spy would make me sound somewhat stupid :(
Also, for reference, DERP is now made up of some random loyalists, DT, and Titus. Now if only they'd come out and fight... Because I can. |

In response to the queries about the evidence on the identity of the spy, I'll set the initial price to 500m. If you guys wanna pool your isk and have me post it up here and slap the audio on evefiles or some other host then that's fine with me too.
I'm also willing to negotiate the price a bit, anyone who's interested mail me ingame so this doesn't derail into an auction thread.
