Hi there, while messing around in EVE today, I thought of a (in my opinion) a pretty good idea.
If the player has the correct computing, tracking and other needed skills, you could right click on a ship, select "Set Collision Course", and your ship will ram the other ship at full speed. This will also disable your shields making you slightly more vulnerable to attack. As well as this, if the enemy ship moves significantly, your ship will miss.
Depending on the mass of both ships and the status of the enemy ship, the ships will either collide causing minor damage to each one, cause major damage, or possibly, if the ship you are ramming is large, your ship is destroyed with minimal effect on the other ship.
This would enable some pretty heroic actions under some circumstances, i'd love to just ram my failing ship right into an enemy one just to help my corp.
Anyway, thats just my two cents. |

Except it would be silly because all the other ship has to do is MWD and you would never be able to hit it.
Also disabing shields suggestions means you are absolutely ignorant of the fact some shields are shield tanked and without shields they can be popped in a single shot, from tengus to ravens. Thus given a stupid unfair advantage to armor ships. |

I like this in theory but I don't think it would be very practical in game. http://amarrian.blogspot.com/ -á~ Roleplay blog.http://sovereigntywars.wordpress.com/ ~ Faction War blog. |

I like the idea of ramming, always have.
But you can't make it an armor only attack button lol. Instead of shields gone, you could have 100% of your capacitor gone, disabled weaponry and offensive modules and a 100% boost to speed an agility ( as if you are putting all power to engines).
As an added bonus, some ships could receive a bonus to ramming.. e.g. the Armageddon cos it has a cool battering ram front :D LSD Pirates FTW! |

Ramming is always suggested. But its just not practical in the real game of eve. IE High sec. I have always wanted to ram a ship yes, but there is no way to integrate it into the game without making it impractical like you can only ram when aggressed, then people will complain because why the hell can they not ram anytime. Its a two ended sword. Just like self destructing damage.
The only way to fix this would be for eve to change completely. IE mutable undockpoints and HUGE undocking sections so no ship would appear inside of a another ship or could be camped easily for a ram. Warping in to a location beacon would have to be much much larger to keep ships from bumping.
Short story is there is to much close range ship to ship stuff going on right now to make it practical. the game would need a complete reworking to make it far. so once a ship crosses a certain point He has crossed an aggression threshold and will get aggression if he has not left in said amount of time.

Module...
This could be a short range weapon where ship speed and mass were factors. It would end up just doing limited damage once, though, limiting usefulness. I would suggest that it equally damage attacker and victim, but offset by skills. That would be the only way it would almost fit into the mechanics of Eve. That said, with the physics in Eve not being reastic (ever warp into a rock and go flying?), this does not fit into the system.
Also, "disabling shields" is not appropriate for Eve in any circumstance. MWDs used to reduce shields and capacitor (and further back, armor, I believe). That just created bias toward armor tankers. Other games, maybe, but not Eve. |

I'd like to see a ram option but it would have to be something you do on purpose (Right click, Ram) rather than something you could accidentally do, it'd give pretty hefty usually weaponless ships something they could do, but to be fair, I'd support combining this with the explosive cargo idea, balance would be a major question though. Can you fit a bomb in a Shuttles cargo hold? |

Really, mass wouldn't be so much of a factor.
Reference:
While numerous other ships were firing on the Executor (Super-class Star Destroyer) in Return of the Jedi, the killing blow was delivered by an A-Wing fighter smashing through the bridge of it.
So, even frigates would be capable of doing massive amounts of damage as it would cause explosive decompression of the ship.
Constantly suggested? Yes, almost as much as nerfing cloaks is suggested.
Feasible? No.
Solution? No ramming attack, GTFO, Biomass. "War is not measured in terms of who wins or loses, who is right or wrong.-á It is measured in terms of who survives." |
