Another gun-comparison:
1400mm: ROF: 23,625 sec damage mod = 5 x (5,75 x) DPS: 0,21 TS: 0,009 (0,01035)
Values in brackets = post patch
425mm ROF: 9,563 sec damage mod: 2.75 x DPS: 0,29 TS: 0,0096
Megabeam: ROF: 9 sec damage mod: 3 x DPS: 0,33 TS: 0,015
Beams have highest DOT (DPS .. damage per second) and highest ROF, compensating for the cap need. Ok. 425s quite near and 1400s far off due to nearly NO CAP usage. Ok so far.
Now what did interest me was the CHANCE OF HITTING!
Due to their TS, ROF and DPS i add a relative score of hitting "chance" and the damage they exhibit "punch" where i set a fictive "large wepon" that middles the attributes of discussed wepons and set its "chance" and "punch" to 100% hitting a slow moving target (i.e. 1on1 fight of BS without using AB or MWD) at relative optimal range.
Resulting % for chance and punch before changes to 1400: Chance for Megabeam = 220%, punch = 84% Chance for 425 = 144%, punch = 77% Chance for 1400 = 55%, punch is 140%
and after changes: Chance for Megabeam = 211%, punch = 78% Chance for 425 = 138%, punch = 72% Chance for 1400 = 60%, punch is 150%
According to these values the megabeam has 4x the chance to hit, compared to 1400 ari with only 60% of the 1400s¦ punch giving the megabeam 2,4x more power. With changes, the lead of megabeam shrinks to 3,5x chance and 52% punch, for a total of 1,8x more power.
425 railgun has 2,6x more chance to hit, compared with 1400, and hits with 55% of 1400¦s punch totalling for 1,43x more power then 1400. With changes, lead of 425 railgun shrinks to 2,3x chance and 48% punch, for a total of 1,1x more power.
Compared to 425 railgun, the megabeam still leads with 1,5x more chance and 10% more punch, totalling for 1,65x more power then 425 railgun.
If you agree with me that this kind of comparison is valid .... ?
Before tweaks: Theres urgent need to change the wepons itself! Unlike others in here that argue that only the ship(s) ... the tempest .. need a tweak, i agree with the gun tweakers: 1400s hit hard when they hit, but chance to do so is too small for the bit more punch they do.
AFTER the tweak, things look different though! 425 and 1400 show nearly identical values in these 2 fictive attributes, whereas megabeams still have the lead.
Conclusion: I suggest to reconsider the tweaks: the tweak hands them 1400s a bit too much love, imo. If you think on the other plus the projectiles have (all damage types, nearly no cap) its too much you add to 1400s, compared to railguns. ***********************************************
