Over NINE Thousand avatar threads already!!1
It¦s obvious, Incarna will definately be a hit, even if it wouldn¦t have any content besides running around with our new avatars.

I will tell you this, it isn't a very good indication that EVE is a "pvp game," as some on this forum like to claim.
That being said, it does say a lot about the people who post on this forum, now (and maybe not the alleged "pvp-ers").

If anything all the contests and rate me's are clearly player competitions. Next will come the shooping of avatars owned by people you don't like.

Yep, because noone will ever get bored with avatar creation with the limited options ATM after a certain amount of time... The craze of a week or two doesn't automatically make a trend already.

If we still have tons of avatar threads after a month or two then you may be on to something, until then you have a "new" aspect of the game that can be fully experienced using about 2% of your 14 day trial. That doesn't roll over into real subscriptions.

No this means nothing at all.
All it says is that a lot fo players reactivated or logged on because this is the only real change eve has made in a long time. That and a few new subs because of the hype some other sites are making. The limitations will kill it for most.
I logged on for the first time in a month to check it out and have not been on since.Back to skill training online
There still is no real new content and incursions aren't going to do it for me.I will most likely stop playing and paying when kotor comes out tbh.

Edited by: Syphon Lodian on 24/01/2011 08:40:57 It is pretty obvious that Incarna will be a major success, as long as it's a somewhat competent expansion. It really IS closer to the pinnacle of Sci-Fi gaming. A lot of people try to kid themselves in pretending they don't like the concept of Incarna, but they do. A massive universe to explore and the ability to dock-up and talk to folks in real-time. Not to mention, supposed content for a "strategy room" with a 3D star map for corps and gangs to plan over.
Sorry, I think that's pretty cool, even if it is barebones addition. No other game like it will exist (if ever for that matter) after Incarna is introduced. I'm excited, along with the rest of the sane EVE players.
Also: Bars/Clubs.

You thinking that is even remotely relevant just shows that you don't understand my counter argument.
A burst in PCU happens after every expansion, and we break the PCU record (nearly?) every year. An increase in users merely 5 days after the release of new avatars is completely meaningless. Lots of people are going to come try it out, and a lot of people are going to talk about it. This doesn't mean it's successful, or even any good. It just means that it's new and shiny. If people are still raving about it and spending tons of time using it after the shiny wears off, then you have proof of success.
As it is now people will grow bored of their new avatars in short order and all the threads about them will return to background noise, just like the avatars that came before them (which at one point many years ago were new and awesome and cool looking). A cool avatar is not going to keep anyone new in game that doesn't have some other reason to stay, and those that are only interested in the avatar system can play for free forever by just recycling trial accounts. They contribute nothing to the Eve ecosystem at large.
Whether vanity microtransactions and Incarna proper can change that remains to be seen, and will remain so until something more fully realized is actually released. All that it's actually good for now is generating buzz (which it's good at). It will not be successful on looks alone, if that ends up being all the content that is in it then you will have another flash in the pan (just as our new avatars are right now, as you will see very soon as the usual post patch enthusiasm trickles away)

No idea how successful "Smuggling in Stations" will be. I also wonder how heavy it will be on our computers, as a lot of people are already having problems just rendering their own 3D character in the editor. "Lagging in stations", perhaps?

Popular the FIRST WEEK maybe. After that it's old and people go back to games they came from. Just look at any MMO launch, 1 million the first month, 100k subscribers the second month.

A lot of that is due to Eve not requiring any sort of powerful setup otherwise, people play Eve on rigs that other people would have thrown away five years ago...

As long as I can open up a ****ty dive bar IN SPACE and waste all of my isk trying to keep it afloat whilst getting consistently virtually hammered and making a scene, I'll be happy with Incarna.

My new avatars suck, I miss the twisted minds behind the faces of my old ones. Try as I might, they all now look like extras on Babylon 5 or DS9.
I'm glad I only have to look at them when I log in.
