Word of God has it that the DED ranked 1 and 2 combat sites might be in for a modification of their status, becoming exploration-only, that is, pilots will only be able to get to them after scanning them down using probes.
I like the idea of this change. Since 1s and 2s will most likely have signature strenghts lower than 3/10s, comparable to lookouts and hideouts, they will be easy to scan down by newer players, and their warp gate restrictions will mean that older players (read: guys in tengus) will be somewhat less likely to compete in those things.
I'd like to add that it might prove a wonderful idea to have some of the lower-end anomalies escalate to DED 1s and 2s, again, offering increased rewards to newer players looking for cash.
We all know the current state of these plexes: most of them are regularly camped from DT to DT. A shame really, income from these sites provides a great incentive to play the game, since you can basically run one in a Rifter without a problem. Or a merlin. Or a tristan. Ah, the memories.
I personally started out my EVE career farming DED 1s like a madman in gallente space while training for exploration. Unfortunately, i had to give up until i could fly a Tengu because there was not enough money to be made in the space i was in from the combat site drops and escalations.

It'd be a good change, the static sites are camped to hell at the moment.
If they do implement this I'd like it if they would also change the signature category of Wormholes from Unknown to something else. That way the signal to noise ration is improved for explorers looking for Cruiser+ combat sites in highsec. This'll compensate us for having to filter out DED 1 and 2 sites.

Sounds like a positive step forward for the PVE player base.

Edited by: Tsubutai on 09/06/2011 21:03:28 Sounds excellent for highsec, but it'd be a bit of a shame to see them go in lowsec, where they effectively function as little frigate/destroyer pvp arenas.

This would be welcome change. It will provide a good reason for more folks to start exploration in highsec.

Remember that CCP promised us that there will be more DED complexes, to fill the gaps.
Perhaps when they get to highsec, they'll do both? that is, move static plexes to exploration AND add 1s and 2s where they're missing (for example, i don't remember serpentis having 2/10).
This would provide the perfect excuse to get some of my buddies to play the game, a solid source of cash. Remember that at least some of the modules that drop there are easily sold on contracts (think afterburners and shield boosters).
