Hi, I have had some problems with cloaked ships in my system. Yes, we all know guys who are looking for easy targets eg. plex farmers saying "I will not allow you to make ISK today!". I dont care about plex farmers who are that stupid to farm there, but I am pvper and I want to catch those guys or at least make it a pain in the ars for them. I would like to create small attacking group, who will be specialized to catch those cloaked ships.
My idea was something like this: 1.) Get a bubble on the other side of the gate 2.) Get an interceptor or any fast ship. Asigned as many drones to him as possible and once cloaked ship jumps into system, burn towards it (Standar tactics for uncloak ships I heared ^^ ) 3.) If we pass "uncloak the ship" part, we will need fast locker and webs. Ships with bonus to web range are prefered. 4.) Once it is webbed, we won.
I would like to avoid tactics where you have to put cans around gate. Chances are slightly higher, but I dont think if this is "legal".
Ok. Plan seems to be simple, but we all know its not that easy. Hardest part is to uncloak ship. Chances are pretty low. So what are your ideas/improvements? I want some nice kills :)
I dont mind if it will take us month or two to master tactics. Null sec without pvp is boring and you dont have 30 man gang around every day ^^

Yeah. Bubble, inty/dram for decloaking and a rapier/huginn to hold him in place once you decloak him.
Cloakies have a cooldown timer before they can recloak, it's more than enough for a recon to lock them. ---------- Who, me? |

whats the matter with that??? 1) (double)Bubble 2) fast decloaker 3) web->damage
not that big problem if you got the people, the rest is experience.

What I am looking for is know-how from peple who are doing this. All small things that make this tactics fail like 'you were too late when targeting that ship' or 'Once ship cloaked, you forgot to set up your speed to max' etc. I need differences between theory and experience so I can avoid those mistakes. Learning on your own mistakes is nice, but why if you can learn from mistakes of others? ^^

Edited by: Robert Caldera on 15/06/2011 10:37:15 why do you play eve instead of just reading about it?
Decloaking is a pure routine job: - get drones - get a bubbler
if he decloaks -> bubble up, dictor burns in his direction, drops second bubble while you are approaching the cloaky with MWD+drones, trying to predict his movement vector.
With enough experience, this can be done solo in a double bubble sabre with long point + web.
You're very likely not going to catch people MWDing out of the bubble cloaked neither in a team nor solo, this works only with a drag bubble in the warp direction (outgoing gate for instance), where you spam container or place your ship at a good spot.

Have your decloaker orbiting the gate. When something new appears in local, activate MWD. When it appears on overview, hammer approach until it cloaks then quickly click the "set speed to max" button on your HUD. Unless you get really unlucky (like bouncing off the gate or something) you'll burn straight into the target and decloak it.
Then it's down to the dude with the webs to keep the target from burning out of the bubble(s). ---------- Who, me? |

Orbitting the gate is the worst thing you can do. Your direction and speed will throw off you align time towards the target.

Not to mention that an active MWD will increase your mass and thus the time to change direction.

I don't have to be PvP expert to know that turning MWD on before aligning or orbiting gate is bad idea. Higher speed makes you align slower, also MWD increases your mass so you align slower anyway. Best way is to sit at 10 and wait with engines shut off.
To other guys: Thanks for your point of view. Any advice is welcomed. And to those who just comment 4 posts at once and add only 'haha' - don't spam this topic please.

Being on the receiving end of this situation numerous times, I highly recommend having a remote sensor booster somewhere in your fleet to help reduce the lock time on your tackler. Once your targeted, a cloak will not operate. if you get boosted, your locking time is nearly instantaneous, and there is always a second or two in transferring from the gate cloak to your covert cloak where you are quite vulnerable. I've seen interceptors undocking with insta-warp bookmarks get tackled on the dock with remote boosting and warp scrams. You just need to be watching and set for action when the gate flashes, and be quick to lock the red box the instant it shows on the overview list. I'm quick, but not that quick... ________________________________ I want a button that will force you to undock out of the station so I can shoot you.

You only need a dictor and a BC in fleet with 2 maybe 3 Sensor boosters, web and/or scram and ganglinks to lock that cov-ops in place in less than a second and once its done he can't cloak because his being targeted and is smarted/shot/droned to death in a few moments, Simple once you get the hang of it.
If the said cov-ops/blorc/br is hiding in the system instead of being at the gate, things get a lot more difficult.

you cant lock a covert which immediately cloaks after gate decloak. just for your info

Hes right, provided the player is quick enough.

you will not catch a mwd-fitted ship that can warp cloaked unless he makes a mistake.

I once heard of somebody dropping thousands of probes around a gate to decloak incoming covops ships, probably not a practical solution though.
Another thing I observed once was a solo sabre camp, where the sabre was cloaked. If they don't see any hostiles on the overview a lot of captains won't bother activating the mwd before they cloak, so the sabre can drop a bubble as the covops aligns and close the distance to bump him before he's travelled more than a couple of kilometres. You probably need good cloaking skills and a good cloak and great timing and aiming to make it work, but I watched him on and off for about an hour and he killed at least 6 cloaky ships in that time so I can tell you it's very effective.

Edited by: John Sinak on 20/06/2011 10:15:31 Good luck with your bubbles on a cloaked T3 with the nullifier subsystem..... Try drones, probes and maybe if you re lucky a bump in the dark... Then decloak is part1, then the locking comes.

New player lurking. Quick question.
Are we saying you can use a MWD WHILE CLOAKED if you turn it on before you cloak? I was under the impression that cloaked ships had to slowboat.

It's a very popular trick for cloaked ships. If you activate mwd before hitting cloak, you get a whole cycle of mwd while cloaked before the mwd deactivates.

Actually, you can active MWD for a short while AFTER you cloak. Try it! :D

^^ this, i've lost a covops to this exact setup, dramiel overshot and dragged drones all over me in less than 1 second, MWD trick wont even save you, the huginn had webs on me about 2000m before the edge of the bubble, after that it was instapop and a fast ride home.
