First let me say, I hope oh so dearly that I am mistaken..
But alas, from living in low-sec for the last 6 months, I cant help but notice my all time favorite guns and ships (blasters, gallente) are just failing all over low-sec and its dynamic fast-paced battlefields of nano.
Am I correct in my assumption that as of right now, hybrids have no place at all in small gang / solo fights? The drawbacks are obvious and many, they are stuck on slow ships, short range, drains capacitor, and the worst.. fitting one means you dedicate yourself to a fight if you ever hope to fight.
Suggestions, fits, ships, trolls, anything to give me more perspective of blasters much appriciated.

Blasters work pretty well in frigate combat. Otherwise, they're garbage for most situations.

Rails can work on nano thoraxes and such.
Do not fall in the trap of "Antimater or nothing".

I thought blasters were some kind of bugged remote shield boosting module. Whenever I fire blasters at a foe, even armour tankers, the natural shield regeneration seems to end up making the targets repair slightly.

No.
Ranis is considered best combat inty, ishkur is best af, dd is dps beast. Incursus, tristan and merlin are viable t1 frigs. Thorax is 2nd or 3rd best cruiser in game - yes, with lol electrons. Brutix is one of two tier 1 bcs that are actually worth using. Proteus is just facemelter and every gallente bs is viable in solo/small gang warfare.
Only caldari hybrid hulls are less interesting /maybe except harpy/, because they lack damage bonus and range bonus doesnt mean much when you cant control range.

Quick Blaster Guide:
1. Train projectiles. They are superior in 95% of engagement scenarios. Arties are pretty much always superior to rails because of alpha and the fact that you don't need to fit a cap booster to keep them running during long engagements. Autocannons can't be neuted out, have larger engagement envelope, can apply different damage types, and most importantly ridiculously easy fitting requirements.
2-5. other mostly useless information explaining the 5% of the time when hybrids are better.

blasters work great in low sec. just remember to bring an arazu or lach in your fleets to hold them down :)

Agree with this, but blasters do need looking at vis a vis gang/fleet, they suck p bad there. Solo I find them to be ok tho, just adjust ur fit / tactics to their strong points. Small rails are srsly good and quite often underrated.

The problem is blaster boats tend to be armor tanked, and have a horrible time dictating range. Faster ships with less DPS are able to dance around out of blaster range and win the day.
In a gang, if his faster mates can get some webs on those enemy targets, the blaster boat can lumber right over and take top damage if they can get there in time.
Frigates that employ blasters have it easier, being lighter and more agile. Note in particular that notorious blaster frigates such as Taranises and Ishkurs typically don't fit armor plates. Same goes for effective PVP Brutices.

This. Blasters just melt faces when in proper range, but armor tank doesn't help...

... or they're Caldari hulls and still have a horrible time dictating range despite being shield-tanked. |

Actually no, blaster ships(above frig size) defiantly not melt faces because they can't archive peak dps, can't control range at point blank and can't pin stuff down.

It's a very situational weapon system. Light blasters are fantastic and heavy blasters can do alright so long as you play your cards right. Unfortunately blaster cannons are really out-classed by lasers. Stick with the Dominix if you're rolling in a Gallente BS.
It's sad that most Gallente-specced pilots miss the best part about Gal ships; active-tanked drone boats. |

tbh, I don't think theres that much wrong with blasters ... for example, an armor BS vs armor BS fight generally happens at zero range in which case the blasters are in a class of their own for dps ... the problem lies with the gallente hulls that support blasters, mega's and hype's are top of a primary list in any fight and their tanks pale in comparison to an abaddon (the standard BS for an armor BS brawl) ... same applies to brutix vs armor harb / cane. imho it's the gallnte hulls that are fail in fleet warfare, not the blasters ... |

in other words, replace the hype's active tank bonus to a resist bonus the same as the abaddon and I think there would be a new FOTM armor BS dominating eve and every1 would stop bashing blasters ... |

Except that hyperion don't got the powergrid to actualy fit a full rack of neutrons, 2 1600's, MWD and heavy cap booster.. Works with medium cap booster though, just like Mega's.
