Originally by: Lady Spank I understand how marketing works and you are being fairly transparent here about exploiting your player base.
On a basic level, the idea of using player experiences to promote your game is a fine one. I can think of many personal anecdotes which could be used in such a campaign. There is of course the issue of your definition of a 'reward'.
Unless you can transfer Aurum back to ISK then these token amounts of Aurum rewarded to players is utterly useless for those of us who wish to have nothing to do with the MT store. I can live with it's existence in game, mainly since there isn't exactly a lot of choice, but up until this suggestion it has been something I can ignore.
Now you are trying to unethically force your players into using it. I doubt these player rewards are going to be enough to buy even a single item from the Nex store forcing us to either sit looking at a 'reward' we cannot access, or to top up the amounts with plex. I am quite sure I am not the only person who wishes not to do so.
This smacks of forcing the playerbase into using the NEX store when they would otherwise have no interest.
Reward us in ISK, limited edition ships or anything else. Just not Aurum.
You lost me at the underlined part.
If CCP wants to reward players with MT monies then don't participate if you don't want to support MT. Simple as that.
Personally I don't see any reason to demoralize the Devs any further than they already are. Just when they were hoping to be praised by the player base for months of hard work on thousands of lines of code, They got hit in the gut with the massage that MT is bad M'kay. Which was all managements fault for lack of messaging to the community.
For better or for worse, the Devs are the gate keepers of this game (not the owners IMHO) and I think they need a simple thank you right now.
As for CCP upper management, I think they need a swift kick in the balls!!!
It's hard NOT to participate when they are going to force Aurum on me because of others actions.
I'm not RAGING and being unreasonable, just putting my point across calmly. I'd hardly say it's a kick in the balls to the devs, and you know fine well it's the Marketing / Upper management behind this promotion and not the devs.
I'm quite happy with eve, I'm not unsubbing, I'm not off on some attempt to make a threadnaught about it. I just have a low opinion of these underhand techniques used to hook people on the Nex store. The underlined bit relates to typical psychological advertising where people may feel they are being rewarded when they are actually being pushed to use a service they might otherwise have no need for.
What do I need Aurum for if I can't do anything with it but have it as an annoyance on my wallet screen?
I won't say any more on this because I actually agree the last thing CCP needs right now is more raging negativity. I don't expect everyone to agree but I don't like their 'reward' method offered here.
I know I don't have to use whatever Aurum ends up on my accounts and I will simply ignore it; I just wished to put my veiw across that it smacks of dirty business tricks. Considering the recent 'greed is good' leak, even if it IS just an internal hypothetical debate tool, putting out sly gimmicks like this so soon after is surprising. Care about it or not, don't expect everyone to be so passively coerced.
You do know that AUR will eventually be tradable for ISK I hope. The reason why its not just yet is to mitigate market influence until Aurum has been around for a sufficient amount of time.
If I have AUR on me, I'll just wait and trade it off later, nothing wrong with that. Hell if you get enough AUR, buy a shirt and sell it for ISK. In the end, It's not just a gimmick forcing you to personally indulge in the NeX and it IS a reward anyone can use.
