If I don't want to use a refining-boosting implant, is it possible to get 0% waste in a station refinery with less than 50% base yield?
I've found some 30% and 32% base yield ones, but I think 35% and 40% values can also occur.
At which of these can I achieve 0% waste, using trained skillz alone? If any. But I know it's very easy to get 0% waste on a base yield 50% station, so I'm thinking it must be possible on 40% ones and maybe 35% ones as well.

No implant, assuming 6.67+ standings, with level 5 processing skills you can get perfect refine at 40%.
96.875% at 35% 96.776% at 35% with implant and level 4 skills 99.350% at 35% with implant and level 5 skills
Use the program in my sig to play around with the numbers.

I'd just like to add that with freighters in hisec, and Rorqual / jumpfreighter everywhere else, there is really no reason to refine at substandard facilities.
With a Rorqual / Jumpfreighter ore can be moved to lowsec or even NPC nulsec for refining.
Plus, the first outpost anyone drops in a constellation nulsec tends to be a Minmatar for refining (Gallente is probably second for offices). |

HA! take a Rorqual into a hole full of rats...no way jose, surely sir ye jests, besides jump fuel will also eat the profits and id take a base refine hit over risking my Rorqual or jump freighter. |

I didn't spend about ~4 months training Jump Drive Calibration 5 and Capital Industrial Ships 5 for nothing. The Rorqual is a mini jump freighter (cheaper too), especially when hauling compressed ore, thanks to the huge ore bay.
It is almost impossible to lose a ship jumping between stations, thanks to 30 seconds of invulnerability > undock timer. Jumping on grid to a POS is about the only risk, and with gunners that can even be mitigated.
Keep in mind one doesn't mine low-ends like Veldspar outside of hisec, so the fuel cost is minimal. Typically 1-2 jump gets me wherever I need to be to refine. Example: Syndicate to Tash-Murkon is one to two jumps. |

The reason for refining at a substandard facility is if you have several million cubic meters of ore. I've found 50% base refineries in nearby systems, though, so now I just need to work on my standing to a couple of corps, to get perfect refine 1 or 2 jumps away.
