IGÇÖm not a miner. IGÇÖm just trying to get a handle on all the different game mechanics 1 at a time. So I skilled for gas mining cos I kept scanning down Ladars anyway. I was surprised at the money to be made actually in low sec.
Got ganked a few times but always stay aligned and never AFK, so always managed to get away safe with the 3x warp stabs. Until this:
http://eve-kill.net/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=15054542
How can a ceptor with only 2 points of warp disruption pin me down? HereGÇÖs her standard fit:
http://eve-kill.net/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=15052871
She loses loads of these and they are always the same. This gang is often around. The local griefers. Shoot anything that moves. Good at it too!
So any suggestions for a counter? I have a few slots to fill as you can see and there was a minute or so to play with while she waited for the DPS to arrive. What about either:
A: Light ECM drones to break her lock. But what could I do about the lock time and range being crippled by the 3 stabs? B: Smart bombs? She only has 1000 hpGÇÖs and a big hole in the explosive resists. Would range be an issue? C: Just warp off to a safe and cloak up as soon as they show up in local until they get bored and disperse? Not the best use of time, but itGÇÖs pretty quiet around the patches I work. D scan is becoming second nature, so as soon as one of them pops up in local or I see a ceptor on the gate, I can bug out. Do you think theyGÇÖll get bored of trying after a few times?
Any better solutions would be great. ti'n siarad Cymraeg? |

No idea how he pinned you. I assume he must have had a different fit or something. As for techniques to prevent this from happening again I can offer my 2 cents.
**** the stabs, they're only useful for getting from a to b, they suck whenever you actually need to target things. Instead of stabs use nanofiber internal structures and align out to a safe spot as soon as you see local go up. Then start D-scanning like crazy. If you're close to a gate, lower your scan range a bit so that you won't see celestial or gates/stations on it but you'll still have enough time to GTFO if something does pop up on scan. Nanofibers will let you align and get up to warp speed quicker and it's always nice to have ECM drones as a backup plan--never leave home without em! Though I've never flown a Typhoon. does it even have a drone bay? A microwarp drive may also be to your benefit. Overloading a MWD in a pinch has saved my ships more times than I can count, though against a ceptor, its pretty hard to get away. Smart bombs might be effective if he gets into range, but all in all, probably not the best way of doing things. I think your best bet is to be nimble and ready at all times. Align as often as possible, d scan as often as possible.
edit: As an afterthought, the tank seems kind of pointless when you think about it. If you get tackled you get tackled a tank will just make them take longer to pop your ship, it won't help you escape, so perhaps have a full rack of ECM modules which u can keep primed to overload at all times. If you got tackled again, hit em with ECM drones and 4 overloaded ECM modules, you can get away from most things. BUT the real goal is to get off grid before they even show up. |

Never underestimate pirates' willingness to fit especially to kill you. If they know you run stabs (which they do now that they have a KM to work off of) the Stiletto pilot may well be running 2 short range scrams. My corp often does special fits to accommodate local pilots and their common tactics.
As to what you can do about it, your options are limited by your crippled lock time but here's what I can think of:
A) ECM Burst; its basically an ECM smartbomb, it takes some luck ofc, but if you stay aligned and break his lock its an easy gtfo
B) ECM drones set to aggressive; drones set to aggressive will engage anyone attacking their controller so a lock is not necessary. If you are tackled up close, opt for Wasp EC-900's as they have the best jam strength and you won't have to be concerned with their travel time.
C) More stabs
*Smartbombs aren't really an option. To kill a ship with tech 2 resists you will often need a full rack, which you can't do if you are mining.

Was the broadsword already on grid when you tried to bug out? If so there's your problem. If a heavy interdictor puts a script in their disruption field it turns it into a single target warp disrupted with longer range and infinite jamming strength |

That too, I didn't notice the Broadsword on the KM. |

As to how he tackled you: he was definitely using a different fit from normal. Your lossmail shows him as using a Warp Scrambler II, which isn't on his regular fit. The Stiletto has 4 mid slots, so he may have just fit double warp disruptors to catch you. I know I've done it before to catch pesky stabbed-out ships.
Ovv Topik wrote:A: Light ECM drones to break her lock. But what could I do about the lock time and range being crippled by the 3 stabs? As advised before, get rid of the stabs. They are hardly ever useful. Light ECM might work, but it's chance based. I'd use it as a fallback, but not as the first or only line of defense.
Ovv Topik wrote:B: Smart bombs? She only has 1000 hpGÇÖs and a big hole in the explosive resists. Would range be an issue?
Actually that Stiletto probably has 4-5k EHP, and the explosive hole is not that severe in shields (his main tank). While you can technically kill that with smartbombs, range is a huge issue. They only reach out to 5 km. A well skilled Stiletto can point at 28+ km.
Cap is also a problem with smartbombs.

They might, yes. I highlighted the important part there. Merely showing up in local is no threat, really. It should just put you on your guard. Actually showing up on d-scan (with a 10,000,000 km range set or something) is worrisome and you should warp out to a safe.
You will also want to watch out for scan probes.
Ovv Topik wrote:Any better solutions would be great. Use a different ship, maybe? Battleships seem hardly optimal for gas harvesting. I've never done it myself, but it seems like you'd want something fairly agile. Since you're already shield tanking, why not use a battlecruiser like a Hurricane or Cyclone? Faster align time, still decent sized cargo, and still good tank. Also, much cheaper.

I started in a Cyclone actually. (never lost it either!) But the Typhoon took my yield from 1000 to 2000 per trip. But better a live Cyclone than a dead Typhoon I guess.
Thanks all
